Chapter Thirty-One: A Head-to-Head Standoff

The three of them returned to the Lu family home together. After saying goodbye at the entrance, Ji Meiqing carried her belongings inside.

As soon as I opened the door, I saw Tian Cuiwei looking timid. I wondered what kind of mischief she was up to.

"You're back! Are you tired?" Tian Cuiwei stepped forward to greet her with the things in her hands. "Wow, how come you're so rich? You bought so many things."

"Are you curious?" Ji Meiqing raised an eyebrow, placing her own things directly on the table to avoid being touched. "If you're curious, you can ask your brother Lu to buy them for you."

"Um... I can't possibly accept that," Tian Cuiwei said shyly.

"If all else fails, there's always the eldest son of the Ji family, isn't there? There's bound to be one you'd be willing to do it." She smiled and countered, "What do you think of what I said?"

"Sister Meiqing, how could you think of me like that! Even if I, Tian Cuiwei, come from a humble background, I would never do such a thing!" Her words were strong and clear, her face flushed with anger.

Ji Meiqing nodded. "Oh, what does that have to do with me?"

She looked at her curiously. "Are we related? Besides, I don't remember the Ji family having a goddaughter like you. Why don't you tell me when you got those old women in the Ji family to take you in as their goddaughter?"

"I...I didn't!" Sensing the mockery in her voice, Tian Cuiwei was still somewhat unwilling. She had clearly been kicked out of the Ji family, so why was she still living so freely? She didn't understand, and she was very resentful.

"Put away your resentment," Ji Meiqing said calmly. "Your resentment is none of my business, and don't take it out on me. Also, it's time for dinner."

She walked past her without saying a word. Lu Yu, unaware that Tian Cuiwei was behind him, simply got up and went back to his room.

She slowly hypnotized herself until she completely believed that it was just her own nonsense before she went to bed satisfied.

Ji Meiqing sat for a while and rested, but her heart was pounding inexplicably, and she had no idea what was going to happen.
