Chapter 19 Cora
As hoped, dinner consisted of grilled crab, along with a bunch of food that Gene pulled out of his spatial storage.
I lay on the blanket that the old man had spread out on the grass.
The sun slowly disappeared on the horizon, and the sky gradually darkened.
A gentle evening breeze was blowing, and the sounds of soft rustling grass and chirping insects filled the air.
Looking at the increasingly bright stars in the sky, she had a strange feeling that she was back in her original world, but she shook her head to dismiss the unrealistic thought.
The next day, Diana was awakened by a conversation. She got up, rubbed her eyes, and looked over. The old man was talking to a middle-aged man next to a carriage.
When the old man noticed she was awake, he beckoned her over and walked closer.
Gene affectionately stroked Diana's head and said to the middle-aged man:
"This is my granddaughter, Diana."
Then he said to her:
"This is a druid; they are also heading to the capital and are offering us a ride."
Diana looked up at the druid, a brown-haired man with a full beard, a weapon at his waist, a silver badge around his neck, and a smiling face that seemed very approachable.
Diana smiled sweetly.
"Thank you, Uncle Druid."
"What a lovely and polite child."
Diana examined the carriage; it was a very ordinary carriage, more like a covered wagon.
A small head peeked out from behind the carriage, eyeing Diana, but quickly shrank back after being noticed.
After their conversation, the two boarded the carriage.
After listening for a while, Diana understood that the druid was an adventurer. His daughter was ten years old and had not yet awakened any skills. It just so happened that the Austin Magic School was opening for enrollment, so he planned to let his daughter try to see if she had any magical talent.
In this world, ordinary people are destined to be at the bottom, unable to control their own lives!
Once aboard the carriage, one finds it laden with goods. A girl with short brown hair sits atop a long trunk, her small hands clutching her dark brown skirt, looking somewhat reserved.
"My name is Diana, you can call me Anna, and what's yours?"
He said extending his hand.
“I…I’m called Cora,”
Cora hesitated for a moment, then shook hands with the small hand.
Diana, quite naturally, sat down next to her and began to talk at length about what had happened the day before.
"Let me tell you, yesterday I was in that little stream over there..."
Seeing the two getting along well, Gene was relieved.
He was always worried that Diana wouldn't be able to integrate into human life, after all, she was born in a labyrinth surrounded by ferocious monsters.
During their journey, when they rested, Diana would take Cora to catch fish and crabs in the stream, and sometimes climb trees to pick various wild fruits.
Diana ate some fruits she'd never seen before without a second thought, much to Cora's chagrin. Cora, watching from the side, was terrified and uneasy for a long time, since some of the oddly shaped and strangely colored fruits just didn't look right at all.
After spending a day together, the two became very close, sticking together all the time, even holding hands while sleeping!
The druid, who was adding firewood to the fire, had tears in his eyes. Looking at his daughter's smiling face even in her sleep, he choked up and said:
"Cora has never smiled since her mother passed away. She has always been very sensible, managing the household affairs very well, and never goes out to play with other children."
"Although she never complained, I know she still resents me, resents that I failed to protect her mother. I am not a good husband, let alone a good father."
The druid covered his face and sobbed softly.
Gene patted him on the shoulder.
"Some things can't be stopped. Cora is a good girl, she'll understand you!"
Cora, who was lying down, rolled over and snuggled closer to Diana.
In the morning, Diana was awakened by a fragrance and wiped the drool from the corner of her mouth.
Following the aroma, I saw that Cora was stewing something.
The fragrance was coming from there, so I quickly got up to check, without even putting on my shoes!
Diana stared at the big pot with shining eyes!
Cora stirred the mixture with a spoon in one hand, and covered her mouth with the other, laughing:
"It'll be ready soon, Anna!"
Gene came over and tapped Diana on the forehead, laughing as he said:
"Anna got up and hasn't even greeted us yet!"
Diana covered her forehead with her hands and addressed each person in turn:
Good morning, Grandpa! Good morning, Kora! Good morning, Uncle Druid!
Everyone laughed again!
When the food was ready, Cora served Diana a large bowl, and she couldn't wait to have a bite.
Cora quickly said:
"Anna! Watch out, it's hot!"
Diana blew on it symbolically twice, took a big gulp, and watched the various ingredients slowly melt in her mouth, each layer distinct.
"Mmm~~~ Cora, your cooking is so delicious~ I wish I could eat it every day from now on~"
Cora blushed slightly as she served food to the others. After she finished, she turned around and found Diana holding an empty bowl in both hands, looking at her expectantly.
"Kora~ I want more~"
Cora smiled, took the bowl, and filled it with another large bowl, handing it to Diana.
"There's still a lot left, eat slowly and don't burn yourself."
Diana ate bowl after bowl, and soon the pot was empty.
He held the last bowl of food to his lips, then suddenly remembered something, blew on it for a while, and then placed it in front of Cora.
"I'm sorry, Cora, your cooking is too delicious. You can have this bowl."
Diana looked embarrassed.
"It's okay, it's okay, Anna, I'm not hungry, you eat."
Cora declined.
"No, you have to eat too, or I won't be happy."
Diana pushed the bowl towards Cora's mouth.
Cora blushed and carefully took a small sip.
'Huh? When did my cooking become so delicious?'
Cora was very puzzled.
Seeing that Cora had finished eating, Diana was relieved. After all, Cora would definitely be hungry if she didn't eat, while she herself was just craving food!
That evening, the druid said that they would probably arrive in the capital the next morning.
Diana was overjoyed, but Cora was somewhat melancholy!
