Rebirth of a Farmer's Dad

Chapter 8 Recruiting troops

Having made up his mind, Luo Feng immediately made all the preparations and informed Luo Erhu, asking him to bring Dunzi to the steel mill at noon. After that, Luo Feng continued to deliver meals to the steel mill as usual.

At noon, Luo Erhu arrived as scheduled with Dunzi. When they got to the steel mill gate, they saw a large group of workers gathered in front of Luo Feng's stall, but Luo Feng was busy working and didn't notice their arrival at all.

Without further ado, the two stepped forward to help. Luo Feng simply smiled at them without saying anything.

With their help, the process was much faster, and the long line for food disappeared in no time.

"You two haven't eaten yet, have you?" Luo Feng asked them after they had some free time.

Both of them shook their heads upon hearing this.

Seeing this, Luo Feng quickly filled two large bowls with white rice and handed them to them. Then, pointing to the few side dishes on the stall, he said, "Have something to eat, as a way of thanking you." As he spoke, he also filled a bowl of bone broth for each of them.

Without any hesitation, the two picked up their large bowls and began to devour the food, then downed the bone broth in one gulp. Judging from their expressions, Luo Feng knew they were still hungry.

So Luo Feng said to them again, "It's okay, we'll give you more if you're not full!"

Hearing this, they completely let loose and continued to devour their food with gusto, leaving nothing behind.

Luo Feng knew they could eat a lot from their physiques, but he didn't expect them to eat this much. Especially Dunzi, who had already eaten three large bowls of rice and drunk two large bowls of soup, yet he was still stuffing steamed buns and flatbreads into his mouth. He ate another five or six steamed buns and three or four flatbreads. Only then did Dunzi smile sheepishly and say, "I'm full."

Good heavens, this is enough food for three or four people! Luo Feng was so shocked he was speechless. He thought that if Dunzi participated in a competitive eating contest in later generations, he would be a sure-fire champion!

After a while, Luo Feng, who had finally recovered, said to Dunzi with some emotion, "It's really not easy for your father to raise you!" After saying that, he and Luo Erhu, who was standing next to him, burst into laughter.

Afterwards, the three of them went into the steel factory to find Dunzi's father. The old gatekeeper didn't stop them, thanks to Luo Feng's frequent visits to the factory manager to bring him wine and food, which made him well-acquainted with everyone in the factory.

Because of the large number of children in his family and the heavy burden of supporting them, Dunzi's father lived a very frugal life. When the three of them found him, he was shoveling cold rice from his bowl. Luo Feng knew very well that he was one of the few workers in the factory who had never bought food from his stall.

Seeing him like this, Luo Feng felt a pang of inexplicable sadness, as if he had remembered something.

Having finally regained his senses, Luo Feng noticed that Dunzi's father was staring at him. Without further ado, he stated his purpose directly. He promised that if Dunzi's father agreed to help, not only would his lunch be free, but he would also receive 100 yuan every month.

How could Dunzi's father miss such a good deal? He quickly agreed. 100 yuan was equivalent to half a month's salary, plus free lunch, which would save the family some food.

However, after thinking about it carefully, he hesitated again because he was afraid that the factory manager would have objections.

Upon learning of his concerns, Luo Feng readily agreed, saying, "Leave this to me." He and the factory manager had become quite familiar with each other over the years, so this little matter was no problem.

So, Luo Feng mentioned it to the factory manager in his office. The manager agreed without hesitation, but on the condition that it wouldn't disrupt the steel plant's normal operations.

After receiving the factory manager's approval, the matter was settled. From then on, Luo Feng only needed to deliver the finished products and all the necessary equipment in advance. The rest would be handled by Dunzi's father.

Then, Luo Feng asked Erhu and Hanzi if they would like to be his employees. It would be tiring, but they would be provided with three meals a day and a monthly salary of two hundred yuan.

Luo Erhu agreed without hesitation. Dunzi was a little flustered, and after being slapped on the forehead by his father, he quickly agreed with a sheepish grin.

After agreeing with them to go to work the next day, Luo Feng and Er Hu packed their things and went home.

With the addition of these two key generals and the help of Atsuko's father, Luo Feng immediately felt much more relaxed.

He's a restless person, and he's already starting to think about how, once he's trained Erhu and Hanzi, he'll hand over the stall to Erhu to manage. He'll then take over all the wedding and funeral work in the surrounding area with Dunzi.

Luo Feng thought being a master of ceremonies or a feng shui master wouldn't be difficult. He could also take on roles related to weddings and funerals.

If that were really the case, Luo Feng believed his income would increase significantly. The thought made him so excited he couldn't sleep.

For the next three months, Luo Feng lived a repetitive life, going to the market with Dunzi and Huzi in the mornings to do business and deliver meals to the steel mill, handing them over to Dunzi's father. In the afternoons, after closing up shop, he and Huzi would go home to prepare for the next day. Because Dunzi lived far away, he didn't have time for these tasks. However, to be fair, Luo Feng assigned the task of delivering meals to the steel mill in the mornings and closing up shop there in the afternoons to Dunzi. He and Huzi focused on their market business, while Dunzi would return to help after delivering the meals.

It is worth mentioning that Luo Feng did not forget his previous plans, so whenever he had free time, he would train Hu Zi and Dun Zi in cooking skills, hoping that they could become independent as soon as possible.

The two of them were not opposed to this. Although Tiger looked big and burly, he was smart and could learn anything after just a few repetitions.

Although Atsuko is a bit slow, she is diligent, hardworking and persevering.

That's true; how many children from poor families can't endure hardship?

Luo Feng taught them something specific: they didn't learn anything else yet, but first they learned how to cook large pot dishes. You see, these large pot dishes are the main attraction at rural banquets.

Actually, cooking in a large pot isn't difficult; the key is mastering the heat, seasonings, and flavor.

So, after learning for a little over a month, the two of them were doing quite well. To show for it, Luo Feng even had them cook a meal at his home, intending to see if they were ready to graduate.

Luo Feng was very satisfied with the result; needless to say, they had met the requirements. Luo Feng immediately counted out two hundred yuan and handed it to Hu Zi, saying, "You've worked for a month, this is your wages." Hu Zi initially refused to accept it, still clinging to a sense of brotherhood. But in the end, he couldn't resist Luo Feng's insistence and had to accept it.

As for Dunzi, since he had already made an agreement with his father, Luo Feng decided to hand the money directly to Dunzi's father the next day.

Dunzi had no objection to this, which shows that he also knows that it is not easy for his father to support the family on his own.

After paying their wages, the three continued drinking and eating. Luo Feng also told them about his future plans. He added that he would definitely raise their wages when the business grew bigger.

They certainly had no objections to this. On the contrary, they looked on with anticipation, imagining what it would be like to have money in the future.
