Rebirth of a Farmer's Dad

Chapter 48 Changing the Original Plan

Luo Feng had originally planned to stay in the village for a few days before returning to the county. However, with Dunzi's situation, he couldn't leave for the time being. But he couldn't let his original plans be affected, as it concerned everyone's future.

Now that things have come to this, there's no other way but to adjust part of the original plan. Since I can't get away myself, I might as well have Biaozi and the other two come to me. Anyway, there are plenty of empty rooms at home; it won't be a problem for a few people to stay. As for the work at the shop, I'll leave it to Huzi; I don't think anything serious will happen.

Having made up his mind, Luo Feng went to the town. From the small shop there, he made a phone call back to Hu Zi, telling him to inform Biao Zi, A Fu, and Bao Sheng to come to the village to find him. Luo Feng planned to teach them how to cook a large pot of stew at his home. That way, he could do both at the same time.

"I'm so smart, there's not a single person like me in the world!" Luo Feng said smugly for no apparent reason.

However, as the saying goes, extremes beget their opposites, and excessive joy can lead to sorrow. Before Luo Feng could even finish feeling smug, Xinghua stormed into the house, looking furious.

"What's wrong? Who bullied you?" Luo Feng was a little confused.

"You, it's you, you lied to me." Xinghua pointed at Luo Feng, her face looking like she was about to cry.

"When did Daddy ever lie to you?" Luo Feng was even more confused, wondering what had happened to this girl.

“Father said he wouldn’t find me a stepmother, but I heard from the aunties in the village that yesterday morning, while I was out playing, you secretly met with an older girl. The auntie told me that the older girl might be my future stepmother.” Xinghua said angrily, her eyes already brimming with tears.

"Who the hell is this? Why are they talking so much? Are they trying to kill me?" Luo Feng was incredibly annoyed, feeling like he was surrounded by gossipy women.

That's the downside of the countryside; besides farm work, there's not much else for entertainment or leisure. A bunch of idle people gathered together—what can't they talk about? You can hear everything from the surrounding villages: whose family gossip, whose family conflicts, whose emotional entanglements. They can all keep a record of it all.

Luo Feng had done this before. Not to mention anything far back, just the last time he chatted with Luo Laoshuan, they were talking about these kinds of things. But people are always strange; sometimes they don't think much of what they're doing, but when they themselves go from being the storyteller to the protagonist, they feel it's inappropriate.

However, Luo Feng couldn't do anything about it; he couldn't very well shut others up.

Left with no other option, Luo Feng could only try to coax his daughter. Unexpectedly, despite trying everything, she remained unresponsive. This little girl was incredibly stubborn, a trait she shared with him; she wouldn't budge on matters of principle. If a child with this kind of personality was properly nurtured, she could be destined for great things.

Luo Feng didn't know if his daughter would make it work, but he was truly devastated. People say a daughter is her father's lover from a past life, his little cotton-padded jacket. But why was his own lover acting like a little princess? And this little cotton-padded jacket of his didn't seem to fit him very well either.

Seeing that he couldn't appease his daughter, Luo Feng had no choice but to give in. He promised his daughter he would never find her a stepmother, while preparing delicious food for Xinghua and keeping it warm in a pot. He then decided to leave to avoid the limelight and return that evening.

My daughter must have taken a nap and forgotten everything by then.

With this thought in mind, Luo Feng went out. Unexpectedly, he ran into an aunt from the village not long after he stepped outside.

"Fengzi, wasn't that girl nice yesterday? I think you two are a good match. How did things go?" The auntie asked bluntly as soon as they met. Needless to say, she was probably the one who told Xinghua about it.

"What can we do? We don't even know each other. What's there to talk about? We chatted for a bit and then parted ways." Luo Feng was furious, almost to the point of wanting to hit someone. But he couldn't afford to break off relations, so he could only reply calmly.

"I told you, you usually seem so shrewd, how come you're so clueless? You two didn't even know each other, but you can get to know each other by chatting, right? You just let her go like that, do you think she'll come looking for you next time? Doesn't she have any pride?" The aunt scolded Luo Feng after hearing her answer.

This left Luo Feng speechless. How did things turn out that he was the one in the wrong? Is there no justice left in this world?

However, they meant well and had no ill intentions, so it was inappropriate for me to contradict them directly.

"Now you're the one who's been through this. I have no experience with this kind of thing. My relationship with Xing Xinghua's mother was arranged by everyone." With no other choice, Luo Feng could only give in.

"That's true, you can't really blame yourself. Just be more careful next time," the auntie sighed and said to Luo Feng.

Luo Feng simply nodded to indicate that he understood. Then he excused himself, saying he had other matters to attend to, and left. Luo Feng planned to walk around the village, but it was best to avoid visiting the villagers' homes. He had only met that girl named Wu Muxiu yesterday, and today such a commotion had already ensued. If he continued to associate with the villagers, who knew what kind of rumors would spread.

But today, it seemed that fate was against him. Luo Feng had just made an excuse to avoid the old lady when he ran into Butcher Liu after turning a corner.

"Isn't this Brother Feng? Instead of staying home watching girls, you have time to wander around outside." As soon as we met, he couldn't help but tease us.

"Alright, Lao Liu, don't you know who I am? Stop making fun of me." Luo Feng said, punching Liu the butcher hard in the chest.

"What are you so embarrassed about? We're all grown men, there's nothing to be ashamed of." Butcher Liu rubbed his chest, a sly look on his face.

"You're just making fun of me today, aren't you?" Luo Feng hadn't dared to lay a hand on the old woman, but with Butcher Liu, there were no such rules. With that, Luo Feng pounced on Butcher Liu and began to pummel him. Instantly, the two grown men were rolling around together.

Butcher Liu was a burly man, and Luo Feng, with his small frame, posed no threat to him. Looking at his smug expression, Luo Feng couldn't help but feel that Liu was treating him like his masseur.

After beating him for a while, Luo Feng stopped, perhaps because he was tired, or perhaps because he was afraid of gossip if others saw it. Luo Feng stood up and helped Liu the butcher, who was lying on the ground, to his feet.

"Come on, let's go to your house and have a drink, brother. I'll also let you try my cooking." After saying that, Luo Feng took the lead and walked towards Liu the butcher's house.

"My house? Why go to my house? Why not just go to your house?" Butcher Liu asked Luo Feng.

"Oh, don't even mention it. My Xinghua is causing a huge uproar. I had no choice but to run away to lay low," Luo Feng said helplessly.

"How novel! This is the first time I've ever seen someone kicked out of their home by their daughter." Butcher Liu perked up immediately upon hearing this and approached Luo Feng with a sly grin.

"Quick, quick, tell me what happened!" Unable to contain his curiosity, Butcher Liu couldn't wait to find out what had happened.

"What are you talking about? I'm so frustrated right now, don't bother me!" Luo Feng said, giving him an annoyed look.

Then the two grown men walked away, laughing and joking.
