Rebirth of a Farmer's Dad

Chapter 42 Holiday

Xinghua's summer vacation finally arrived, and with Luo Feng's eager anticipation, the father and daughter could finally go back to the countryside for a couple of days. On Friday night, Luo Feng packed his bags and waited for the next day to catch the bus back.

Before she knew it, Xinghua had been attending school in the county town for several months, and she had gone from being unfamiliar with the place to being familiar with it. To be honest, she was starting to get a little bored. That's how kids are; everything is new and exciting, but once that initial excitement wears off, they start to feel bored.

Overall, Xinghua was still looking forward to this trip back to her hometown. This was evident from the morning's events. Usually, Luo Feng would urge Xinghua to eat breakfast, but she would only respond dismissively. Unexpectedly, today the situation was completely reversed; Xinghua kept urging her father to eat quickly so they could go back to the countryside.

Although he wasn't quite sure why his daughter was in such a hurry to go back, Luo Feng still behaved very obediently. He obediently followed his daughter's instructions and finished breakfast as quickly as possible. After all, his daughter had finally shown some enthusiasm, and he couldn't very well dampen her spirits, could he?

After dinner, the father and daughter boarded the bus back to their hometown as planned. Before leaving, Luo Feng told Hu Zi everything he needed to know. This guy was already quite capable, but he still needed more experience, and this was a good opportunity to give him that. His business would expand in the future, and he needed a few capable people around him.

They traveled in silence until the afternoon before finally returning to the village. First, they had driven for several hours, then walked for several more hours along mountain paths; by this time, they were too exhausted to speak.

Such a long journey was naturally unattainable for a four- or five-year-old child. Therefore, there is no doubt that Xinghua spent the latter half of the journey on her father's back, or rather, fell asleep.

Luo Feng walked and thought the whole way. Looking at his daughter sleeping on his back, he couldn't help but feel a pang of heartache. Such a young child. She shouldn't have to suffer like this. Besides, the journey from his village to the town was too far. And it was all rugged mountain roads, with several particularly treacherous sections; one wrong step and he could lose his life at any moment.

"When I become successful, I'll definitely fix this damn road," Luo Feng vowed to himself, his daughter on his back. He didn't know how long it would take to achieve this goal, but he believed in himself and his abilities.

The long journey had exhausted the father and daughter, and when they got home, they went straight to sleep without even having dinner.

The next morning, Guofeng got up as usual. The only good thing he'd done for himself lately was to adjust his biological clock. Now, no matter how late he stayed up the night before, he could get up on time the next morning and didn't feel tired at all.

Of course, Luo Feng is in his prime now, and he should pay more attention to his health in the future. But that kind of thing can wait until he's successful and wealthy. For now, it's better for him to be more practical.

Because he hadn't eaten dinner the night before, Luo Feng felt a little dizzy and lightheaded when he got up. He thought to himself, "My daughter's condition is similar to mine, or rather, worse. Children can't stand being hungry."

Rushing into the kitchen to prepare breakfast for his daughter, Luo Feng realized that he had run out of edible food. Even if he had, it had all spoiled. He hadn't prepared any food for the family in his haste last time, and this time, in his excitement, he hadn't thought of it.

Now things were in a bit of a mess. Getting to town meant walking over ten miles of mountain road, and he could barely keep an eye on her, but what about his daughter? With no other option, Luo Feng had to ask the villagers for help. He couldn't let his daughter starve.

When talking about people in the village, Luo Feng immediately thought of Lao Shuan. It seemed that Lao Shuan was the only person Luo Feng was really familiar with in the whole village. There was also Liu the butcher, but his wife had run off with someone else, and now she wasn't much better off than him, so it was best not to bother him.

With this thought in mind, Luo Feng arrived at Lao Shuan's house. Before he'd even gone far, he saw Lao Shuan and his son, one of them squatting at the doorway holding a large bowl. They seemed to be having breakfast. He'd certainly arrived at the right time today; better late than early.

Squatting to eat is an old custom unique to rural areas, and even in later generations, many elderly people in remote villages still retain this outdated practice. Now, of course, it's commonplace.

"Hey Lao Shuan, having breakfast?" Luo Feng greeted him as he stepped forward.

"Fengzi, what brings you here? When did you get back?" Old Shuan looked up and saw that it was Luo Feng, so he asked.

"We came back last night. Xinghua is on summer vacation, so we plan to go back to the village to stay for a few days," Luo Feng said.

"Husband, who are you talking to?" Old Man's wife's voice came from inside the house. Before she finished speaking, she appeared in the doorway.

"Sister-in-law, it's been a long time. How have you been?" Luo Feng quickly greeted Lao Shuan's wife.

"Isn't this the Crazy Brothers? When did you get back?" Old Man's wife asked.

"I came back last night." Luo Feng had no choice but to repeat himself.

"By the way, you haven't eaten yet, have you? Come on in and have something to eat, and invite Xinghua too." At this moment, Lao Shuan's wife extended an invitation to Luo Feng.

It has to be said that sometimes women are more perceptive than men. Luo Feng could tell that what Lao Shuan's wife said was definitely not just polite talk; she must have realized that he hadn't eaten breakfast yet. Now, since he didn't know how to bring it up, he might as well just go along with it.

"Sister-in-law, you're amazing! How did you know I hadn't eaten breakfast?" Luo Feng asked, feigning great curiosity.

"No problem. I didn't see any lights on in your house last night, so you definitely didn't cook dinner. And when I looked at your face this morning, I knew you hadn't eaten anything since last night, had you?" Old Shuan's wife smiled and replied.

"Sister-in-law, you're so thoughtful. Then I won't stand on ceremony. I'll go wake Xinghua up first." Luo Feng said, preparing to leave.

"Hey, why are you being so polite with your sister-in-law? You eat here first, I'll have Zhuzi take Xinghua's portion over." Old Shuan's wife said, pulling Luo Feng into the house.

"Alright, alright, I'll go in myself." Luo Feng sadly discovered that he wasn't even as strong as a woman, so he could only say this to Lao Shuan's wife.

Then he sealed the envelope and went inside. Old Man Shuan's wife followed him in, seemingly preparing to personally serve Luo Feng the envelope.

Luo Feng, of course, hadn't forgotten that his daughter hadn't had breakfast yet. He had just received a bowl of porridge from Lao Shuan's wife, which someone said was to take to Xinghua. However, this task was snatched away by Zhu Zi, who had just entered the house. Zhu Zi grabbed the bowl from Luo Feng's hand and headed towards Luo Feng's house.

It seems there's no need to worry about his daughter's breakfast now. He himself hasn't eaten much since last night and is already dizzy with hunger. Wang Feng, of course, didn't care about that, filled another bowl, and stood by the stove, burying his head in his food.
