Rebirth of a Farmer's Dad

Chapter 15 Preparing for Renovation

Now that the shop has been found, the renovations should begin. He didn't dare approach Grandpa Wang, considering how helpful he'd already been. As for the shop owner and his wife, they haven't appeared since their parting yesterday; they must have gone to the city. Besides, Luo Feng has his own plans; he needs to cultivate his network. In this business world, you can't do business without making friends.

Although no one was helping him this time, Luo Feng, who had lived two lives, wasn't worried at all. He first found a general store and told the proprietress he wanted to buy a pack of cigarettes. After lighting one, he casually asked, "Ma'am, I'm currently renovating my place. Do you know where I can find some renovation workers?"

“These days, there are plenty of people doing this. Look carefully, brother, you might find one.” After saying that, the proprietress winked at Luo Feng.

It seems the proprietress is quite knowledgeable about this! With a silent sigh, Luo Feng smiled and said to the proprietress, "I just remembered, I need to visit a friend. What do you think I should bring?"

"What kind of friends?" the landlady asked.

"Just ordinary friends," Luo Feng said.

"Then you can bring some rock sugar, oatmeal, canned fruit, and things like that," the proprietress said, taking things from the shelf next to her.

"If he has children at home, you can bring a box of San Tai Zi instant noodles."

"Forget about rock sugar and canned goods, I'll just bring some oatmeal and instant noodles," Luo Feng said helplessly. It seemed he was going to have to spend a lot of money today.

After packing the items, the proprietress pointed to an alleyway and said, "There's a renovation shop at the end of the alley; their skills are pretty good. Why don't you go check it out?"

Luo Feng smiled, thanked her, paid, and was about to leave with his things. After thinking for a moment, he felt it wasn't appropriate to bring the items along, as it might lead to misunderstandings, so he turned to the proprietress and said, "I'll leave these here for a bit, I'll come back for them later." Seeing the proprietress nod, Luo Feng put the items down and left.

Following the landlady's directions, Luo Feng entered the alley. As soon as he stepped into the alley, a wave of nostalgia washed over him. The houses at that time still retained a touch of antiquity, with blue bricks and black tiles everywhere, and the walls were not adorned with as many small advertisements.

"This should be the last chance to see these things!" Luo Feng muttered to himself before continuing to walk towards the end of the alley.

He knew that these cherished buildings would eventually be replaced by skyscrapers of steel and concrete. He might never have the chance to see them again.

However, he doesn't have time to dwell on things now. For a businessman, time is money, and he can't afford to waste it.

Reaching the end of the alley, Luo Feng found a small courtyard with its gate closed. After listening carefully and finding no movement inside, he was about to knock when a dog suddenly barked from inside.

The sudden barking startled Luo Feng. However, he quickly calmed down; to be honest, almost every household keeps a dog these days, so it's nothing unusual.

Luo Feng shouted a few times into the courtyard, but no one answered. Just as he was hesitating whether to go back and ask the landlady, he heard a loud shout behind him.

"Hey, what are you doing here at my doorstep?"

Luo Feng turned around and saw a middle-aged couple and a young man standing not far behind him. It was clearly the young man who had said those words.

"I heard you guys run a renovation business, so I came to take a look," Luo Feng said.

"Is that so? Then let's come inside and talk!" The middle-aged man immediately became enthusiastic upon seeing a guest, and then slapped his son on the back of the head, saying, "You brat, can't you speak properly!"

This scene made Luo Feng laugh. It's not easy! He's even willing to go to such lengths for business.

And so, Luo Feng followed them into the house. Hearing that Luo Feng was going to renovate his shop and that the shop wasn't far away, the man decided to go and take a look.

So Luo Feng led them there. On the way, everyone chatted and laughed, and they arrived at their destination in no time.

The owners, a husband and wife, have always run a snack business, so there's not much to change. A little renovation and running in a few electrical wires will suffice.

Even for such a simple job, the renovation worker quoted a price of two thousand yuan, which Luo Feng found hard to accept. After all, he only had a little over ten thousand yuan on hand, and if he didn't save some money, he might not have the capital to start a business.

So Luo Feng said to the man, "This is too expensive. Can't you make it cheaper?"

"This price is already very fair. If you don't believe me, go out and ask around; it's the same price everywhere." The older brother still insisted on not budging.

The atmosphere suddenly turned tense. Jian Luofeng was still hesitating when the man said, "If you don't believe me, go out and ask around at a few more places."

"Okay, I'll go ask around at other stores." How can you not compare prices at several places for something like this?

After listening to Luo Feng's words, the man went back, but before leaving, he told him that he could come find him if he changed his mind.

Over the next few days, Luo Feng inquired with several renovation companies. Unfortunately, almost every company gave him a similar quote.

He also inquired about the chef recommended by the grocery store owner and learned that his skills were quite good.

Having no other choice, Luo Feng had to go back and find someone.

Seeing Luo Feng return, the man laughed and said, "How's it going, little brother? You're back again, aren't you?"

"The price is no problem, I'm leaving everything to you, brother," Luo Feng said, scratching his head somewhat embarrassed.

"No problem, when do you plan to open?" the man asked.

"About seven days later," Luo Feng said.

"What? Seven days? That's way too rushed. Nobody does things like this." The man said, somewhat surprised.

"There's nothing we can do, we're in a rush to do business. Do you think you can help us catch up?" Luo Feng said, offering a cigarette.

Seeing that the man was still hesitating, Luo Feng said, "We have enough manpower over there; we can do any kind of physical labor."

So the man agreed. I suppose he was worried about the lack of manpower and the tight deadline.

"So, how do you want to decorate?" the man asked.

"All we need to do is plaster it, lay down some flooring, run a few electrical wires, and install a light," Luo Feng said after thinking for a moment.

I don't have much money right now, so I don't have the capital to invest in renovations. I'll just make do for now and deal with it later.

"Alright, let's start work in a couple of days," the man said, taking a puff of his cigarette.

Luo Feng agreed. He planned to go back to the shop first and have Hu Zi and the others bring all the equipment and Xinghua from home. He had already been away from home for several days, and he couldn't keep leaving his daughter in the neighbors' care.

Back at the shop, I told Tiger about it and asked him to take the things I bought from the grocery store owner a couple of days ago as a thank you gift.

Bringing apricot blossoms was easy, but what about the tools? They definitely weren't allowed on the bus. This put Tiger in a bind.

"Hey! What's the big deal?" Luo Feng shook his head after hearing this. "I remember Zhao San in town has a tractor, right? Here's what you do, go to town and find him, ask him to help transport the stuff over. We can just pay him a little money."

Tiger nodded, picked up his things, and went back to the village.

Luo Feng, however, seemed to be deep in thought, wondering if he should also buy a tractor, so that he wouldn't have to walk more than ten miles from the town to the village in the future.
