After swapping bodies, I became a domineering CEO in a melodramatic novel.
Chapter 68 Perhaps we can have a proper talk
In an instant, the atmosphere froze again. Yu Yuetong's heart pounded with anger, cursing Mo Qingcheng for his cunning and even resorting to such a trick. When his sly gaze secretly peeked over her, she felt a surge of rage and wanted nothing more than to slap him.
"Stop exaggerating!" she finally couldn't help but say, her voice low but firm.
Qin Yu and Qin Xian were both taken aback, while Mo Qingcheng raised an eyebrow, quite surprised by Yue Tong's counterattack. She took a deep breath, her inner resolve making her look at Qin Reng, trying to see a glimmer of light in his gloomy expression.
“If you don’t want to deal with me, the people you want to deal with don’t need me to come.” She said seriously, trying to appear mature, composed, and even outspoken.
"Are you courting death?" Qin Qu smiled contemptuously, as if he had heard a joke, his sarcasm undisguised. He took a step forward, deliberately closing in, making everyone feel his threat.
Just as she was about to retort, she was overwhelmed by an invisible pressure. Yu Yuetong was now truly facing his gaze, which seemed to want to devour everything. She hesitated for a moment, afraid that if she said the wrong thing, she would offend him and become nothing more than dirt in the eyes of the Qin family.
"Don't treat me like some nobody." She finally mustered her courage, glaring at Qin Yu, her heart trembling slightly, yet carrying a hint of strength. She didn't want to submit, nor did she want to be a plaything to be manipulated any longer.
"You've got quite the big mouth." Qin Yu curled his lips, his face showing disdain, but he secretly felt that this little girl was actually quite interesting.
Yu Yuetong raised her head, desperately trying to hide her unease, and met Qin Yu's gaze. In that instant, time seemed to stand still as their eyes met, and a burning, inexplicable emotion welled up within them.
Just then, the footsteps outside the door sounded like rapid thunder, as if foreshadowing some terrible moment to come. She wondered to herself, "Is the real storm not yet over?"
"Wait!" Just at this critical moment, Mo Qingcheng teased with ill intent, "You guys better watch out, the old man's patience isn't limitless, and it's rumored that he's already started investigating you in secret."
Xu Lai's pressure washed over Yu Yuetong like a tidal wave. Her heart trembled, and she anxiously looked at Qin Reng beside her, only to see him slightly frowning, his brow furrowed with unease. Had they already reached a dead end?
"What is Old Man Qin planning? Shouldn't he know?" she asked urgently, her voice filled with urgency, as if she wanted to see some answers or hope in Qin Yu's eyes.
However, before she could finish speaking, the door to the room was suddenly pushed open, and several beams of light pierced her eyes. In an instant, the darkness was gradually dispelled, but a new crisis was also approaching like a shadow.
Yu Yuetong's heart tightened. The anger and provocation on the man's face reminded her of her past self, now reduced to the "lowly commoner" he spoke of. She took a deep breath, trying to keep her voice calm, and looked directly at Qin Yu, her eyes flashing with unyielding spirit.
"What's wrong with you?" Her voice was low but firm, as if bursting forth with fearlessness from the depths of her heart. "I married you not to obey your orders, but to achieve my own goals, understand?"
Before she could finish speaking, Mo Qingcheng scoffed, "Oh dear, there's often a gap between ideals and reality. You're too naive, little girl." A mocking smile curled at the corner of his lips, and a few dim lights flashed in his eyes.
Instead of his usual sarcastic remarks, Qin Yu frowned slightly, seemingly pondering Yu Yuetong's words. His silence stirred unease in Yu Yuetong; she longed for a response, for him to understand her feelings.
"What are you thinking about?" She stared wide-eyed, trying to catch a glimpse of his emotions on his face. What could have been sparks of romance between them had vanished in the tense atmosphere.
“I don’t want to be some rich young master. My marriage to you is both unwilling and painful,” Qin Yu said hesitantly, his gaze softening as he seemed to discover her extraordinary resilience. “But I also don’t want anyone to look down on you, especially my family.”
His voice softened at that moment, sending a warm feeling through Yu Yuetong's heart. She straightened her back, trying to accept this unexpected change: "So, what do you plan to do?"
"Don't think I'm being overly gentle. I'm not explaining this for your sake. Making a scene will only benefit neither of us." Qin Yu said expressionlessly, but unconsciously revealed a deep respect for her, as if he saw it as a form of recognition for her.
Just then, a series of hurried footsteps and a cacophony of voices rushed into the room, followed by a figure squeezing in. It was Old Master Qin, his face stern and his eyes filled with hostility.
"What are you two doing!" he shouted sharply, instantly silencing the entire room. Yu Yuetong's heart leaped into her throat. She knew this man held absolute authority, especially in this family struggle where victory or defeat hung in the balance.
"Grandpa, we're just discussing some things," Qin Yu said calmly, though his slightly trembling hands betrayed his considerable nervousness. The old man clearly disregarded this, walking steadily closer, his gaze sweeping over everyone present like a knife, finally settling on Yu Yuetong.
"You're really something else, daring to be so arrogant towards my grandson in my house." The old man's tone was full of disdain, as if he regarded Yu Yuetong as insignificant. Yu Yuetong's chest tightened, and she couldn't help but feel resentful.
"I'm not just anyone. My marriage to Qin Yu was forced, but I will never allow myself to be underestimated by anyone!" Yu Yuetong finally couldn't hold back the fire in her soul and shouted back, as if she wanted to pour out all her persistence.
"You..." The old man was stunned, seemingly not expecting this woman to dare to resist him like this. His lips twitched slightly, as if he was suppressing his roaring anger.
"Enough!" Qin Yu suddenly interrupted loudly, his tone revealing a hint of impatience. His gaze lingered between the old man and Yu Yuetong, as if setting the tone for this situation that was gradually turning into a three-person drama.
"I'll handle this. You can leave now." His voice was cold yet firm. Old Master Qin was clearly taken aback; his face showed a look of complete surrender. He glared at Yu Yuetong and turned to leave. All that remained for her and Qin Yu was the increasingly tense atmosphere.
Watching the old man leave, Yu Yuetong finally breathed a sigh of relief. Turning around, she found Qin Yu's deep gaze fixed on her, as if he was pondering something important and difficult to express.
"What happened today... perhaps we can talk about it properly." He bit his lower lip slightly, his tone hesitant yet conveying an unusual warmth to Yu Yuetong.
