After swapping bodies, I became a domineering CEO in a melodramatic novel.
Chapter 46 You can't go alone!
"How could you possibly understand these things?" Qin Reng's gaze sharpened instantly, as if a sudden storm was approaching.
He was breathing heavily, then realized his tone was inappropriate, turned his head, and his eyes softened instantly. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to get angry."
Yu Yuetong felt a slight tremor in her heart, sensing his vulnerability, yet she couldn't help but want to get closer to this man who was full of coldness and a sense of responsibility.
She reached out and gently grasped the back of his hand, feeling the warmth between his fingertips.
The small gesture, like a contract, tightly bound the two hearts together.
"Don't worry, we're still husband and wife before the divorce. I'll face anything with you."
The atmosphere was subtle and relaxed, and even the surrounding air seemed to have warmed up.
But just then, the nurse's phone rang abruptly, breaking the silence.
She gave the doctor a mysterious smile while on the phone, then her expression turned serious, and she turned and left in a hurry.
"What's going on?" Qin Reng looked at the nurse curiously, his heart once again filled with tension.
"Excuse me, I might have to deal with an emergency." The nurse hurried away, leaving behind a lingering whisper in my ear.
Yu Yuetong felt uneasy; her intuition told her that things were far from over and there might be some unexpected news.
She looked at Qin Reng, silently encouraging herself, and gave him a warm smile, wanting to protect him with her resilience.
Yu Yuetong gripped Qin Reng's hand tightly, feeling the slight tremor on the back of his hand, and a sense of unease welled up in her heart as well. "Doctor, please continue."
She tried her best to make her voice sound calm, but her heart was already in turmoil.
"We need to observe you further, especially your mental state. You need to maintain a good mood," the doctor said, as if trying to reassure the two of them.
Yu Yuetong knew that this was no small matter.
"To put it bluntly, the pressure is too great." Qin Reng frowned, his tone revealing impatience. "That doesn't need further explanation, I can handle it."
Yu Yuetong wanted to say something, but she was captivated by his determined gaze.
She knew in her heart that he absolutely refused to admit his vulnerability, especially under these circumstances.
“But Mr. Qin,” the doctor tried to break the ice, “the work-life balance is very important, especially in such a complex environment as you are now.”
"I'm fine." Qin Reng's voice turned icy, almost commanding. He glanced at Yu Yuetong. "I can handle it myself."
Yu Yuetong felt a pang of disappointment. She knew he hadn't shirked responsibility, yet she helplessly wanted him to rest.
“You don’t have to carry all the pressure on your shoulders; I’m here for you.” Her mood was like being swept away by a winter wind, cold and desolate, yet she tried hard to hide it.
Hearing her words, Qin Reng's brows relaxed slightly, but his words remained firm: "I don't need you to take the blame for me. I will handle it well. Anyway, no one can understand me."
"Really, nobody can understand?" Yu Yuetong couldn't help but laugh, her emotions like the excitement of receiving a package. "You're so strong, no wonder everyone thinks you're a cold and domineering CEO."
"You always say I'm cold, but I feel I have warmth." Qin Reng tilted his head slightly, his words seemingly heavy and full of hidden meaning. A warmth inadvertently wafted past his nose, making Yu Yuetong's cheeks flush slightly.
“But you can’t be like that. Being too aloof makes people feel unapproachable.” She winked at him, the smile in her voice slightly easing the steely atmosphere.
Just as the two were starting to calm down, the nurse rushed back, her face showing urgency. "I'm sorry, we had an urgent matter to attend to. Please keep your and Mr. Qin's phones switched on. We will contact you immediately in case of any emergency."
Yu Yuetong's heart skipped a beat, as if she had a premonition of something. The doctor's warning and the nurse's anxiety created a kind of unspeakable threat.
"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" Qin Reng noticed Yu Yuetong's unusual behavior and asked softly with concern. He held her hand, the strength in his fingers revealing his inner unease.
"No, I'm just a little worried." Yu Yuetong tried to appear calm, but her heart was in turmoil.
The hospital corridor had become unusually melancholic, with the colors on the white walls flickering erratically, as if they too were telling some untold story.
Yu Yuetong's courage seemed to have been swallowed up by this invisible pressure.
"Sorry, you'll have to wait a moment." The nurse nodded quickly, leaving the two of them alone in the silent hospital.
The dim light shone on Qin Reng's deep-set face; though the features were familiar, they felt strange to her.
Yu Yuetong realized that there seemed to be an invisible rift between them. It wasn't that she couldn't understand him, but that she simply couldn't reach the fear and guilt deep in his heart.
She tried to lower her hand and change her posture, but he held it tightly. "Don't let go."
The low, somber request eased the tension between her brows slightly, but Yu Yuetong was overwhelmed by a deeper sense of powerlessness.
Just as she was silent, a series of hurried footsteps suddenly came from outside, and two doctors rushed in, interrupting their conversation.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Qin, we've discovered that your condition may be more complicated than previously stated. Please come with us for further examination."
The young doctor's tone was unexpectedly urgent, completely unlike his previous gentleness.
Qin Reng's gaze darkened, and he slowly stood up, casting a deep, farewell look at Yu Yuetong. "I'll go take care of it."
Yu Yuetong's heart tightened instantly, and all sorts of unrealistic images flashed through her mind. It was as if, in her world, the vulnerability hidden beneath her strong exterior was accumulating strength in her ivory tower, just like the self that she had never broken through.
"Wait!" She stood up decisively, trying to grab him, but was blocked by that invisible force.
"I will get better." Qin Reng turned around for a moment, and the determination in his eyes left Yu Yuetong speechless.
He turned and stepped out of the room, an aura of danger and the unknown surging in behind her, as if an invisible dark current was quietly approaching.
"No! You can't go alone!" Yu Yuetong's heart sank suddenly, a strong sense of panic welled up inside her, and an even more despairing feeling was like a storm about to break.
But no matter how she called out, his figure gradually disappeared at the door, leaving only emptiness.
Helplessness and fear bound her tightly to the corner like chains, and she knew that things were far from over.
A hidden flame ignited in Yu Yuetong's heart, and her emotions changed abruptly with Qin Chu's departing footsteps. A feeling of unease and intensity surged in her chest, like suppressed yet burning emotions permeating the air. She wanted to follow, but didn't know how to face him.
