Return to before death

Chapter 35 Murder and Dismemberment

"Did you get the goods?" The man's voice was hoarse and deep, sounding like he was over forty years old.

Kidnapper B shuddered.

"No, Mr. Dai, the Zong family member refuses to speak, so even if we kidnapped him..."

"I understand. That wolf cub is heartless. Kill her daughter and give her back to him." The man interrupted him, giving the order in a chilling tone.

"well."

Kidnapper A freed up his hands and picked up the phone.

He said respectfully, "Mr. Dai, what about the account books?"

"It doesn't matter, that thing can't threaten me. By the way..." The man paused, then smiled maliciously. "Be ruthless, and let Zong Zhengqing remember that the Dai family is not someone he can mess with."

"Yes," kidnapper A replied solemnly, waiting for the other end to hang up.

He turned to kidnapper B and said, "Kill him, dismember him, and send the body to the Zong family. This is Mr. Dai's order."

Kidnapper B's face lit up with joy. He stopped entangled with the other two parties, quickly increased the car's speed, and sped along the main road before finally rushing into the mountains and forests, completely shaking off his pursuers.

It was already evening of the 16th.

The two kidnappers arrived at their new hideout. Tangtang slept peacefully in the carriage, unaware of the fate that awaited her.

2017 October.

Yan Ran has returned to her friend Yu Xiao's home.

Yu Xiao and Ji Shuhai slept in the master bedroom, while the guest room, which was originally a storage room, was cleaned up and given to her to live in.

She had just settled down when she remembered the changed timeline... Tangtang was still dead. Although the timeline had shifted, what saddened her most was that she had been killed, dismembered, and then sent to the main family.

Tangtang, whose body had been abandoned in the wilderness, was sent back to the Zong family!

She didn't know what kind of person Zong Zhengqing had offended that caused Tangtang to suffer such misfortune.

But why did Tangtang's time of death change?

Did she do something?

A thought flashed through Yan Ran's mind: Could it be the woman from the hospital?

Did her appearance change something, leading to the butterfly effect?

If that's the case, even if she can't go back to before her death, can she still change Tangtang's fate by constantly traveling back in time to change other people's destinies?

Just then, Yu Xiao called her from the lobby, and Yan Ran shook her head, not wanting to think about these things, and went out.

All her belongings were left at the Zong family's house, and it wouldn't be wise to go back to get them in the next few days. So she had to go to the mall to buy some temporary supplies, since she would be going back to work in a few days.

Her dream can come true again.

A few days later, Yan Ran had already settled down temporarily at Yu Xiao's house.

With everything prepared, she waited confidently for the work to begin. Yu Xiao and Ji Shuhai were still busy preparing, so Yan Ran naturally didn't disturb them.

So on this day, she stayed alone at Yu Xiao's house, reading some professional books.

After all, I haven't been back for many years, so I need to get back to familiar with things.

It was raining today, so it was inconvenient for her to go out. Moreover, the rain was getting heavier and heavier, as if it was going to flood the city.

Yan Ran looked up at the rain, then looked down at her book again. Suddenly, her phone rang. It was the phone number she had set up specifically for Zong Zhengqing, but now it sounded ironic.

She frowned and hung up the phone.

It rang out again.

Yan Ran looked at her constantly vibrating phone, hesitated for a moment, then turned it off and added Zong Zhengqing to her blacklist.

I thought it would end there, but I was still uneasy because these two phone calls inevitably brought back memories of the days I spent with Zong Zhengqing, and then I thought about how their lives ended.

Yan Ran hardened her heart and stopped reminiscing.

But she could vaguely hear someone calling her name. The voice was very soft and faint, as if... as if someone was calling from outside the house.

Yu Xiao's house is not tall, only four stories.

Yan Ran's heart began to pound. The Zong Zhengqing she knew wasn't such a persistent and determined person, but what if he was?

The sound continued, and grew louder and louder.

Yan Ran heard it very clearly; it was her own name, and it was indeed Zong Zhengqing's voice.

How dare he?

Her cheeks flushed with anger. She felt a surge of resentment as she recalled what Zong Zhengqing had done. How could he have chased her all the way to Yu Xiao's apartment building? What would the neighbors think of him for doing that?

Yan Ran peeked through the curtains and saw Zong Zhengqing dressed in a black suit, holding a large bouquet of beautifully wrapped red roses, as fiery as fire. However, the downpour had robbed him of his composure; his wet, shoulder-length black hair clung to his face, making him look unusually disheveled.

A black Cadillac was parked not far away.

Yan Ran hesitated, but still called Zong Zhengqing.

"What are you doing here!" she demanded.

She still felt sorry for him; after being married for so many years, caring for him was almost an instinct.

"I'm coming to pick you up, Ranran. Stop making a fuss and come back with me." Zong Zhengqing pleaded over the phone. He realized that Yan Ran was actually standing behind the window, so he looked up and explored her with his eyes full of deep affection.

Yan Ran felt a chill in her heart.

From the beginning of her marriage, she was constantly harassed by Zong's mother. She sacrificed so much of herself and suffered so much injustice, but Zong Zhengqing only said a light "Stop making trouble" in his mouth.

It seems that the man who loves her so deeply is always the innocent one, while she is just an unreasonable, cold-hearted, and heartless wife.

"Go back. I really want a divorce. I'm not going back." She closed her eyes.

Zong Zhengqing cried out in disbelief, "Ranran!"

After a long pause, she continued, "Ranran, that child really isn't mine. If you don't believe me, we can do a paternity test. Nothing happened between Lan Ke and me. Besides, even if I really wanted to have an affair, why would I go to Lan Ke? It would be easy for her to find out and cause trouble. I'm truly devoted to you."

Yes, that's a very good explanation.

Yan Ran looked at the man's disheveled, drenched appearance with a cold smile, wanting only to laugh.

However, it's just an excuse.

“Zong Zhengqing, ask yourself what you were thinking back then, don’t ask me. So what if that child isn’t yours? Even if it were your own child, wouldn’t you be cold-blooded enough to completely ignore it? Don’t you know how Tangtang died?”

Zong Zhengqing was momentarily stunned upon hearing this, but he didn't actually say anything.

Even now, Yan Ran didn't want her lover to be such a cold-blooded person, but that was reality. She lowered her eyes, resolutely closed the curtains, and didn't want to look anymore.

A weak, pleading voice came through the phone.

“I was really out of my mind back then. I can’t tell you, I was really forced into this situation… That person wanted your life and mine. I just… I just didn’t want anything to happen to you.”
