Night falls over the neon-lit Tokyo, and the places in the city where the lights don't reach are darker than you might imagine.

Matsuda Jinpei dragged his tired body home. It was already late at night, and apart from the streetlights, there was no one to be seen.

Two months ago, he was transferred from the SM Unit to the First Investigation Division, where they have been investigating a murder case. Everyone initially thought it was just a simple robbery and murder, but the investigation revealed a much larger secret.

But just when the investigation had made a breakthrough, an order was suddenly issued from above, halting all investigations by the First Investigation Division.

Miwako Sato was quite dissatisfied with this, but even after arguing with Inspector Megure, he could only tell her that it was an order from above and he had no choice.

Matsuda Jinpei realized that this must be related to the secret behind the case.

Thinking this, Matsuda Jinpei suddenly stopped. There was complete silence around him, but in that silence he could hear suppressed breathing and smell a faint scent of blood.

The gun was returned to the Metropolitan Police Department. Matsuda Jinpei became alert and quietly approached the source of the sound. It was a makeshift hiding place made up of a car parked on the side of the road and a corner of the wall. Matsuda Jinpei suddenly moved in, and the next moment the muzzle of a gun was pressed against him.

The strong stench of blood immediately filled Matsuda Jinpei's nostrils; the man was seriously injured. Only by the moonlight and at such close range could he make out the wounded man.

The young man leaned against the wall, a few strands of his short silver hair plastered to his face from sweat. His face was deathly pale, stained with blood, and his dark red eyes were filled with vigilance and ferocity. His right hand was clutching his abdomen, the extent of his injury obscured by his black clothing, while his left hand held a gun to Matsuda Jinpei.

Because of his injury, muffled breathing came from his chest; a dying beast is the most dangerous.

"It's you?" Matsuda Jinpei finally spoke up.

Jiang Jin squinted and saw the "meddlesome" person who had barged in. Just as he was about to speak, he heard a voice from not far away: "He was shot. Search carefully again."

Matsuda Jinpei frowned; his policeman's intuition told him something was wrong.

"Officer Matsuda, if you don't want to die, run! Those guys have guns..." Jiang Jin wasn't being overly kind; he just felt that if he were with an unarmed policeman, he might be in even more trouble if they were discovered.

Matsuda Jinpei's forehead veins throbbed, cursing inwardly that nothing good ever came of encountering this person. However, upon hearing that the other party had a gun, Matsuda Jinpei naturally couldn't let the matter rest, as the area was mostly residential.

"Stay here quietly." Matsuda Jinpei said, crouching down as he walked away. Not long after, Jiang Jin heard the sound of police sirens.

Ten minutes later, Matsuda Jinpei reappeared in front of Jiang Jin.

"Did you call for backup?" Jiang Jin asked.

“No, I just scared them away with the siren. It was late at night, and they were armed criminals. Even if ordinary patrol officers came, they wouldn’t be able to catch them, and it would only disturb the surrounding residents.” Matsuda Jinpei said as he walked over to Jiang Jin and squatted down. “I’ll go to the Metropolitan Police Department tomorrow and let them know before they investigate.”

Jiang Jin sat on the ground and said weakly, "They say if you're in trouble, call the police. Well, officer... please help me out."

Matsuda Jinpei felt that his connection with this person was really strange, even though he didn't even know the other person's name... Matsuda Jinpei sighed, bent down and helped Jiang Jin up, and asked in a cold tone, "Aren't you a super assassin in the dark? How did you get yourself into such a mess? Who were those people?"

"I'm already injured, Officer Matsuda, please stop mocking me. Those guys..." Jiang Jin couldn't hide the murderous intent in the eyes of those thugs just now.

After leaving the Century Grand Hotel, Jiang Jin called Gin back. Gin relayed the orders from above, sending Jiang Jin to complete the transaction. Unexpectedly, the other party double-crossed Jiang Jin at the transaction site.

Oh, it wasn't even a double-cross, it was just an ambush. Jiang Jin brought four people, and he was the only one alive.

"They're just a few scoundrels who double-crossed each other." Jiang Jin naturally wouldn't tell Matsuda Jinpei the truth.

Matsuda Jinpei took Jiang Jin back to his home, helped him onto the sofa, and then turned to look for a first-aid kit. When he returned, he found Jiang Jin sitting on the floor.

"Why are you sitting on the ground?" Matsuda Jinpei walked over to Jiang Jin in a few steps, opened his first-aid kit, and took out scissors to cut open his clothes. "Gun wound, looks like we'll have to remove the bullet."

As Matsuda Jinpei spoke, he glanced at Jiang Jin. The young man's face and neck were covered in cold sweat. He had never seen the man in such a disheveled state since they met.

Jiang Jin, enduring the dizziness and pain from his wounds, said, "I have blood on me, don't get your sofa dirty... I'm leaving it to you, Officer Matsuda."

“I don’t have any anesthetic here, so bear with it.” Matsuda Jinpei said, cutting Jiang Jin’s clothes larger to reveal his smooth waistline. His skin was pale, and the glaring blood on him was a visual shock. Jiang Jin reached for a roll of gauze. “No need, that’s fine. Here you go.”

After saying that, Jiang Jin put the gauze roll in his mouth. Matsuda Jinpei first rinsed the wound with clean water, and then disinfected the tweezers and the area around the wound with alcohol.

“I’m going to begin,” Matsuda Jinpei said.

Jiang Jin leaned back on the sofa and nodded. Matsuda Jinpei then inserted his tweezers into Jiang Jin's wound. The muscles around the wound trembled with pain. Jiang Jin tilted his head back, his neck covered in cold sweat, veins bulging.

"Well……"

Even with gauze in her mouth, she still let out painful groans, clutching the blanket on the sofa tightly in her hand.

The cold tweezers gripped the bullet embedded in the flesh, and the gruesome sounds of muscle and blood flowing filled the room.

Matsuda Jinpei wiped the sweat from his brow and tossed the bullets into the tray. Jiang Jin immediately breathed a sigh of relief, removed the gauze from his mouth, and gasped for breath: "Damn, that hurt like hell."

"Don't move, the medicine and bandages haven't been applied yet." Matsuda Jinpei pressed Jiang Jin down, his hand resting on Jiang Jin's waist, which was still slightly sweaty. Jiang Jin said in a hoarse voice, "Why are your hands shaking? Officer Matsuda, you're not scared, are you?"

Matsuda Jinpei's face darkened. He wasn't frightened, but he had never removed a bullet for someone in this situation before, so he was inevitably nervous.

“You won’t behave even when you’re injured.” Matsuda Jinpei said, deliberately pressing harder on his hand. “I’m just afraid you’ll die here, that would be a hassle.”

"Ouch! Ouch, ouch, ouch..." Jiang Jin immediately groaned, "Officer Matsuda, go easy on me, I'm injured!"

Matsuda Jinpei bandaged up Jiang Jin's wounds and then brought out bedding from the house to make a makeshift bed for Jiang Jin on the floor.

"You'll have to make do here for now."

Jiang Jin nodded obediently at this moment. Matsuda Jinpei then brought him a clean set of his clothes and treated the injuries on his face. With his hair down, the sickly Jiang Jin finally looked a bit more pleasing to the eye in Matsuda Jinpei's eyes.

The next day, Matsuda Jinpei woke up and was surprised to see Jiang Jin serving breakfast when he came out of his room.

"What's this?" Matsuda Jinpei glanced at the table; there were sandwiches and milk. Jiang Jin sat down without any hesitation and replied, "Breakfast! Thank you for saving my life yesterday, Officer Matsuda. I can't repay you with my body, but making breakfast is fine."

Matsuda Jinpei immediately rolled his eyes, sat down opposite Jiang Jin, picked up a sandwich and took a big bite, and turned on the TV.

"The Sakurai Foundation is about to change its leadership... Five days ago, the Shinjuku burglary and murder case was solved..."

Matsuda Jinpei's brow furrowed so deeply upon seeing the news that it could kill a fly. Jiang Jin, noticing Matsuda Jinpei's unpleasant expression, rolled his eyes and asked, "What's wrong? Is there a problem with this news?"

“We’ve been investigating this case for a while now,” Matsuda Jinpei said, clearly unwilling to disclose any information about the case to unrelated individuals.

Jiang Jin swallowed a bite of his sandwich nonchalantly and said, "I know this victim. His name is Inoue Saburo, right?"

Matsuda Jinpei glanced at him sideways: "How do you know each other?"

"Breakthrough robbery and murder... Is that what you think?" Jiang Jin asked instead of answering.

"That was indeed our initial assessment, but as the investigation progressed, we discovered a major problem behind the case, but..." Matsuda Jinpei clenched his milk cup tightly as he looked at the news report.

They just announced the case was halted, and then the media reported it was closed. The person behind this must be someone with considerable influence.

"What do you know about this Inoue Saburo? You said he wasn't just a simple burglary victim, why?" Matsuda Jinpei felt he might have found a new breakthrough, but this also meant he might soon face something even more troublesome.

Jiang Jin put down his sandwich and said with a half-smile, "Officer Matsuda, do you know the Sakurai Group?"

Matsuda Jinpei paused for a moment, then asked, "The one they were talking about on the news just now?"

“Yes, that’s them. This Inoue Saburo works for the Sakurai Group; he’s a senior executive, in charge of… finance.” Jiang Jin said slowly, “Finance is rarely clean, especially in such a large conglomerate. This Inoue Saburo was one of the accountants responsible for laundering money for the Sakurai Group. You think his death was just a simple burglary?”

Matsuda Jinpei immediately replied, "Is it to silence them? But why would they do this for no reason?" As he spoke, he glanced at the news on the television, "Sakurai is about to change leaders. Is this a way of cleaning up his rivals or trying to cover up some dirty deeds?"

Jiang Jin snapped his fingers: "Officer Matsuda is really smart, he gets it right away."

"How do you know all this?" Matsuda Jinpei stared at Jiang Jin, his dark blue eyes sharpening. "What is your connection to your injuries and the people who chased you yesterday, and the Sakurai Group?"
