We bear people have power
The last question in Chapter 62
As soon as he took a step, Black Impermanence knew he had been tricked.
Because very soon, the sensation of the mourning stick returned.
But you can't blame him; that mourning staff is his livelihood. If he loses the bet, he'll at most be punished, but without it, his position as Black Impermanence will be in jeopardy.
In reality, Guan Bo didn't have any magical treasures like the Falling Treasure Coin; he just ran far away and saved up for a big move.
He gathered all his demonic power and unleashed a treasure-collecting spell.
The effect was truly remarkable, completely blocking the Black Impermanence's senses for a full two breaths.
Although ninety percent of his demonic power was consumed, it was worth it to frighten Hei Wuchang into taking this step.
Upon receiving Gongsun Jing's telepathic message, Guan Bo returned exhausted, grinning as he handed the mourning staff back to Hei Wuchang.
"Seventh Master, you flatter me." Guan Bo said, cupping his hands in greeting.
"I didn't give in, I'm convinced." Black Impermanence was quite straightforward. This was a psychological tactic, and if he lost, he lost.
Guan Bo didn't mince words and chose Meng Po's Soup from the three underworld treasures as his reward.
This thing is a special item that has appeared in countless myths and legends, so Guan Bo was naturally very curious.
One bowl is enough to make you forget everything from the past; it's arguably the most ruthless effect in the world.
In Guan Bo's view, a complete living being is often not only complete in terms of physiology, but also in terms of the soul.
Just like Lingxiu now, she is no different from Yingcao, except that she has a memory of her own.
But no matter how close Guan Bo is to her, even to the point of being inseparable in life and death, he cannot treat her as Yingcao.
This may sound sentimental, but after experiencing so much, Guan Bo increasingly feels that the Bodhisattva's actions back then had profound meaning.
"To put it bluntly, it's still a game of witty banter, but I'm not very perceptive, so I can only keep going straight for the wall." Guan Bo sighed to himself, then began to examine the Meng Po soup.
The pale porcelain bowl was filled with more than half a bowl of bright yellow soup. It smelled almost nothing, and when you shook it, it didn't budge.
"Why does it look like jelly? Isn't it supposed to be Meng Po's 'soup'?" Guan Bo asked curiously.
Black Impermanence chuckled inwardly. He was still a little unhappy about losing such a round, but seeing Guan Bo's ignorant and uncultured appearance, his anger subsided considerably. He explained, "Unless you drink it, you can't pour out the Meng Po soup. Otherwise, if you carry it for thousands of miles, you might accidentally spill it."
Guan Bo thought to himself, "That makes sense. If we sprinkle it on the ground and the crops and wild vegetables that grow there are eaten by people, it might cause the whole village to develop amnesia."
And it's just as well that it can't be poured out, since Guan Bo doesn't have any treasures for storing odds and ends, so he can just tuck this porcelain bowl into his arms.
With the treasures safely stored away, the second round of the betting is about to begin.
This time, it was White Impermanence who took the stage. This Eighth Master's movements were exactly the same as Black Impermanence's. He slammed his mourning stick to the side and then waved to Guan Bo.
"What? Am I going to run into you again?" Guan Bo asked curiously.
White Impermanence wasn't as easy to talk to as Black Impermanence; he simply said coldly, "Attack!"
He had barely finished speaking when he pulled out his mourning stick and smashed it down on Guan Bo's forehead.
Guan Bo quickly concentrated his demonic power on his forehead, but he had just exhausted too much energy, so when the mourning staff fell, countless golden Sanskrit characters shattered and actually landed squarely on his brow.
Fortunately, the Sanskrit golden characters absorbed most of the force, so Guan Bo was not seriously injured, only slightly dizzy.
But this blow also shows that White Impermanence is much more powerful than Black Impermanence.
In his prime, Guan Bo could have used his innate supernatural powers to contend with Bai Wuchang, but now he has almost no chance to fight back.
Therefore, before Bai Wuchang could strike again, Guan Bo decisively said, "I surrender!"
Bai Wuchang was stunned for a moment and almost didn't take back the second blow.
He thought to himself, "This monster dared to defy the underworld for a complete stranger. He's clearly a man of ambition. How come he gave up so easily after just one blow?"
Logically, one should rather die than submit.
Guan Bo wasn't that stubborn. Among their group, only his innate supernatural abilities could have any effect on the Black and White Impermanence. Now that he was half-crippled, even if he joined forces with Gongsun Jing and the others, they still wouldn't be a match for the White Impermanence.
Since we're going to lose anyway, why should we take this beating for nothing?
“A bet's a bet, Eighth Master. Choose one of these three treasures. I strongly recommend you choose this demon's inner core,” Guan Bo said, pointing at Xiong Shanjun.
Xiong Shanjun was furious. If he hadn't been restrained by Gongsun Jing, he would have bitten off Guan Bo's finger.
White Impermanence remained silent and simply walked back to Black Impermanence's side.
Black Impermanence chuckled and said, "Don't talk nonsense. How can a demon core compare to these other two? We'll choose the Five Thunder Orthodox Method."
After saying that, he took the incomplete copy of the Five Thunder Orthodox Method and eagerly began to read it.
The item wasn't fake, but it was largely incomplete and even contained errors. However, Hei Wuchang was overjoyed, for what he considered a treasure was thunder magic, a form of extremely yang and powerful magic, was what they feared most. With this incomplete copy of the highest level of Taoist thunder magic, coupled with his thousands of years of cultivation experience, he was sure he could glean something from it. This was a huge profit for him.
Guan Bo was also very happy. He had already memorized the incomplete piece, and it belonged to someone else anyway, so he wasn't heartbroken even if he lost.
With everyone happy, Guan Bo pressed his advantage, saying, "Well then, since it's a contest, we should at least be fair. You've set the questions for the first two rounds, so I should set the questions for the third."
Upon hearing this, Black Impermanence considered refusing, thinking that this demon was unpredictable and might cause some trouble. However, Guan Bo's words made sense; it was unreasonable for him to set all the rules on his side.
Black Impermanence thought for a moment and then said, "That depends on what your topic is. We can't possibly have our ghost messengers compete with you in sunbathing. We certainly can't agree to that kind of thing."
Guan Bo readily agreed, "My question isn't difficult. You can ask anyone for help, as long as they can answer my question."
Seeing Guan Bo's confident demeanor, Black Impermanence wondered if this monster was stupid. As Black and White Impermanence, they could communicate with the underworld at any time.
Even if this simple question stumped the two of them, could it stump the Ten Kings of Hell and the judges? Even if they couldn't answer it, could it stump Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva?
Even if we take a step back and assume this is the decree of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, if even a Bodhisattva's wisdom cannot solve this problem, why not just ask the Buddha?
You should know that figures at the level of Buddha and Taoism have already seen through the three thousand worlds and possess boundless wisdom. No matter what kind of witty repartee you use, it will not stump these great beings.
Even if we take a ten-millionth step back, if there's even a one in a billion chance that this panda spirit could actually stump the Buddha, then naturally the blame wouldn't fall on the Black and White Impermanence, and they wouldn't have anything to fear.
Having figured this out, Black Impermanence readily agreed, "Go ahead and ask! If we really can't answer, we'll admit defeat."
"Then listen carefully, may I ask you..."
Guan Bo only wanted to use a clever trick to perfectly resolve the matter, but little did he know that this problem would alarm all the gods and Buddhas.
