Chapter 15 The Silly Brother Never Dies

This is a female-centric novel, which is frustrating yet very angsty.

The female protagonist, Qi Wangshu, comes from a merchant family. Her mother died early, and only her father and younger brother, Qi Yuan, lived in the family. Qi Yuan was born with a mental disability due to a difficult childbirth, but under the care of Wangshu and Qi's father, Qi Yuan was not an annoying little fool. On the contrary, he was happy every day and also loved his older sister, Qi Wangshu, very much.

The Qi family had no healthy sons, and Qi's father, out of respect for his deceased wife, was unwilling to remarry. He originally planned to have Qi Wangshu find a son-in-law, but unexpectedly, the Qi family's vast wealth was coveted by the seemingly glamorous but actually impoverished Marquis's mansion. Not only did they plot to kill Qi Yuan, but they also had the young Marquis use his good looks to seduce him.

Qi Wangshu wasn't stupid, but she knew that her family was just a merchant family and couldn't compete with the Marquis's mansion. So she suppressed her hatred, pretended to fall in love with the male lead Chu Gou, and married into the Marquis's mansion in a grand manner.

Upon entering the mansion, he was confronted with a scheming mother-in-law who was plotting to exploit the family's wealth, the young marquis's childhood sweetheart and pregnant cousin, and the young marquis himself, a mama's boy.

On the surface, Qi Wangshu was deeply in love with the young marquis, and she kept showing off her housekeeping skills in front of her mother-in-law. First, she took away the housekeeping power, and then she tried every means to drive away her cousin.

After giving birth to her son, Qi Wangshu looked at the 'tonics' her mother-in-law brought and, without the slightest hesitation, put them all into the young marquis's tonic soup.

Later, his mother-in-law suffered a stroke, the young marquis became paralyzed, and his cousin died in childbirth. Even after Qi Wangshu brought down this chaotic family, he still longed for his beloved younger brother.

Before his death, Chu Gou confessed that he was truly in love with Qi Wangshu, but he was powerless against his mother, which led to his mother and cousin killing Qi Wangshu. He regretted it and said that if there was an afterlife, he would be willing to serve Qi Wangshu like a slave to make amends.

After that, Qi Wangshu devoted herself to raising her son and did not remarry. She stayed at the Marquis's mansion, only thinking of her younger brother Qiyuan's corpse in the quiet of the night, regretting that she had not seen through the Marquis's mansion's wolfish ambitions sooner. She lived her whole life in regret.

The person making this prayer was Chu Gou, whose wish was to prevent Qi Yuan from dying. He sacrificed his own soul for this, and there was no possibility of being reborn.

As soon as Qi Yuan opened her eyes, she felt someone push her, and then her body plummeted downwards, accompanied by a woman's heart-wrenching scream.

Qi Yuan was someone with a cheat code, so how could he die like that? Just before he hit the ground, a white halo appeared above his head. His body landed on the ground, not shattered into pieces, but rather felt as if he had fallen into a pile of cotton, which was quite soft.

One of the characteristics of the protagonist's halo is immortality.

The faint sounds of a woman's wails and shrill cries could still be heard from above, causing a pang of pain in Qi Yuan's heart.

"Sister!" With all her might, Qi Yuan lay on the ground and shouted upwards. The crying stopped immediately, followed by a woman's voice filled with joy and surprise.

"Ah Yuan isn't dead! I heard Ah Yuan's voice. Ah Yuan! Wait for your older sister! Your older sister will bring people to rescue you right away. Don't run around, don't be afraid, okay?" The two sentences echoed in the valley, and soon became a quartet.

"it is good!"

After saying that, Qi Yuan was too lazy to move. She lay down wherever she had fallen. The sunlight was a bit dazzling, so Qi Yuan took off her coat and covered her head with it. Before long, she actually fell asleep.

When Qi Yuan woke up, she found herself in a warm embrace. When she opened her eyes, what came into view was Qi Wangshu's firm jaw.

My older sister is so beautiful, even from a death angle she's captivating. No wonder that mama's boy fell in love with her at first sight. That was my first thought after waking up.

"Ah Yuan, you're awake? Sleep a little longer, your older sister will take you home." Qi Wangshu noticed Qi Yuan's gaze, looked down, and saw Qi Yuan looking at her with admiration. Qi Wangshu was pleasantly surprised that Qi Yuan was alright, and didn't pay attention to Qi Yuan's gaze, gently coaxing her.

"Listen to your older sister." A childish voice rang out. Qi Yuan didn't feel ashamed of pretending to be a six-year-old fool. On the contrary, she thought being a fool was quite good. At least she didn't have to work herself to the bone, say the wrong thing, or do the wrong thing. She could even avoid punishment by relying on someone's words, "Why are you arguing with a fool?"

Qi Wangshu held Qiyuan firmly, her steps quickening, and she would occasionally look down at her younger brother in her arms, afraid that he might be uncomfortable being held like that.

As soon as he got home, Qi Yuan felt a gust of wind. Before he could turn around to look, he fell into another embrace. The man's arms were stronger than Qi Wangshu's, but very gentle.

"Ah Yuan, Daddy's Ah Yuan." Qi Yuan was held in her father's arms, and he looked her over again and again. After not smelling any blood or seeing any obvious wounds, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"Wangshu, what exactly happened? Why did Ayuan fall off the cliff?" Qi's father carried Qi Yuan into the house, asking Qi Wangshu as they walked.

Qi Wangshu explained the whole story in a few words, but did not mention the speculations. Seeing that Qi Wangshu was hesitant, Qi's father glanced at the people in the room and did not ask any further questions.

The father and daughter looked at Qiyuan on the bed. After the doctor finished taking her pulse, they hurriedly asked how Qiyuan was feeling. When they heard the doctor say that she was fine, just frightened and needed to drink calming soup for a few days, the father and daughter coaxed Qiyuan to sleep before leaving Qiyuan's room together.

Qi Yuan pretended to be asleep, deceiving the father and daughter. Only after they left did he take out a Soul-Replenishing Pill and swallow it.

The original owner's soul is currently asleep. The original owner is not stupid, but his soul is somewhat damaged. After taking the Soul-Replenishing Pill and resting for forty-nine days, he will awaken and be no different from an ordinary person.

Qi Wangshu wants her own younger brother, the original kind, so Qi Yuan won't linger. She just wants to help the original owner get through these forty-nine days and prevent the father and daughter from worrying. Before leaving, she'll cause an accident to give the original owner a reason to wake up and return to normal.

No one knows what Qi Wangshu and Qi's father said, but the two of them were so busy the next day that they were nowhere to be seen. Qi Yuan could only imitate the original owner and play in the mud in the mansion. As a result, she got addicted to playing. When Qi Wangshu returned to the mansion, what she saw was Qi Yuan, who had turned into a mud figure.

"Ah Yuan? Don't come any closer..." Qi Yuan also saw Qi Wang Shu and, imitating the original owner's behavior, immediately lit up her eyes and tried to pounce on Qi Wang Shu, but unsurprisingly, she was rejected by Qi Wang Shu.

Just then, Qi's father returned home. Before he even saw Qi Yuan, he shouted at the top of his lungs, "Where's A Yuan? Dad's back! Come and see what good things Dad brought you!"

Upon hearing about something good, Qi Yuan abandoned her attempt to catch Qi Wang Shu and instead took off running, following the sound.

Before her father could even see what was rushing towards her, Qi Yuan threw herself into his arms, calling out, "Father, Father."

Qi's father was covered in mud, even his face was smeared, making him look like a big mess. He looked resentfully at Qi Wangshu, who had rushed over and was covering his mouth while chuckling. He didn't dare to scold Qi Yuan loudly, so he picked him up and took his son to get a nice bath.

"Hahahaha, Wenqin, did you see the resentful look on my father's face just now? It was so funny..." Qi Wangshu laughed until her stomach hurt, and the maid next to her couldn't help but laugh out loud as well.

At this moment, the servant at the door came over and said hesitantly, "Miss, the Marquis has arrived."

Upon hearing Chu Gou's name, Qi Wangshu's smile vanished instantly, and she reluctantly allowed him to be invited in.

"I was unaware of Your Excellency's presence and have failed to greet you properly," Qi Wangshu said coldly, without a trace of joy on his face.

"Wangshu..."

“My lord, please be careful with your words. I am not yet married. Your address would tarnish my reputation. Please address me as Miss Qi.”

"Miss Qi, I was unaware of what happened that day. If I had known, I would never have allowed my cousin to act this way. I hope Miss Qi will consider our past relationship and spare my cousin's life." Chu Gou looked at Qi Wangshu with deep affection, his eyes seeming more like a declaration of love than a plea for mercy.

Qi Wangshu felt goosebumps rising from Chu Gou's gaze, and suppressing her discomfort, she said, "This humble woman has no past relationship with the Marquis, so please be careful with your words." Qi Wangshu didn't respond to Chu Gou's words, and Chu Gou was struck by Qi Wangshu's words that drew a clear line between them. For a moment, he didn't know whether to talk about his cousin or about the two of them, and he remained silent for a long time.

Qi Wangshu drank his tea without saying a word, letting Chu Gou remain silent.

Just then, Qi Yuan came out of the bath and changed clothes, and wiggled her little legs to pounce on Qi Wangshu, calling out, "Sister, A Yuan Xiang, Sister hug me."

Upon seeing her younger brother, Qi Wangshu's usually icy face broke into a smile as she gently supported Qi Yuan's small body.

"Wang Shu..." Chu Gou frowned and was about to speak when Qi Wang Shu shot him a sharp look, and Chu Gou immediately changed his form of address.

“Miss Qi, you have come of age, it is improper for you to be so intimate with Qi Yuan…” Chu Gou was about to say something when Qi Wangshu impatiently interrupted him.

"If you have nothing else to say, Lord Marquis, please leave. My family matters are none of your concern." This blatant dismissal made Chu Gou's face turn pale, but he didn't realize he had been meddling in other people's business. Even though Chu Gou had feelings for Qi Wangshu, being humiliated like this time and time again made him feel ashamed. He left with a "You'd better watch yourself" and turned to leave.

After Chu Gou left, Qi Wangshu felt that the air was much fresher. She teased Qi Yuan and asked what Qi Yuan had done that day.

On the tenth day, the Qi family was extremely busy. Even Qi Yuan was dressed in festive red clothes, looking like a New Year's picture doll, and followed Qi Wangshu by the side.

Today is Qi's father's birthday, and many people have come, including the uninvited Marquis Chu Gou, and his cousin disguised as a maid.

In her previous life, on this very day, Chu Gou's cousin plotted against Qi Wangshu. Qi Wangshu knew there was something wrong with the wine, but she still drank it. She wanted to avenge Qi Yuan, and she had no other way but to marry into the Marquis's mansion.

In this life, Qi Wangshu would not drink that cup of wine, so what should have been drunk by Qi Wangshu ended up in the mouth of his cousin, Chu Gou.

When the guests saw the Marquis and his maid tumbling around in the Qi residence, they all looked at them with disgust. Qi Wangshu also had someone spread rumors about the deep affection between the Marquis and his cousin, completely binding the two together.

For the sake of his career, Chu Gou had no choice but to marry his cousin. Only his cousin was overjoyed, feeling that she had become the wife of a marquis and had fallen into a golden palace. She spent money extravagantly, and the wedding banquet was extremely lavish.

The already struggling Hou family mansion was now even more insolvent. The old Hou lady sighed deeply as she looked at the account books, regretting that she had missed out on Qi Wangshu, this golden nugget. At this time, the old Hou lady was unaware that Qi Wangshu knew about their scheme against Qi Yuan and even planned to have Chu Gou marry Qi Wangshu as a secondary wife. However, whenever the topic came up, Chu Gou would outwardly agree but dare not set foot in the Qi residence. Even when he saw Qi Wangshu, he would only glance at her from afar before leaving.

Chu Gou doesn't try to make his presence known, and Qi Wang Shu Le enjoys her freedom, managing the family shop every day. Watching Qi Yuan act silly, her life is much more comfortable than if she had married into the Marquis's mansion.

However, a recent trouble has caused a somewhat somber atmosphere in the Qi residence.

Qi Wangshu was unwilling to marry. She looked at many men in the city who were willing to marry into the family, but none of them met the approval of her father. Her father couldn't bear to see his daughter being ruined by those ugly men, so he refused to allow Qi Wangshu to find a husband.

The father and daughter disagreed on the matter, which made the servants of the Qi family so afraid to even breathe and to be on their guard every day.

"Big sister, when Ayuan grows up, she'll have someone to rely on!" Annoyed by the father and daughter's nagging, Qiyuan stood up, patted her little chest, and looked at Qiwangshu to make a promise.

"Hahaha, Ah Yuan, good boy, when you grow up, you'll be your older sister's support!" Father Qi was amused by Qi Yuan's childish words and clapped his hands as he spoke.
