Reborn in the Hong Kong entertainment industry in the 1980s

Chapter 377 The Protagonist in the Center Position

Nie Jinlong didn't hide anything and said that he was extremely satisfied with his current income, not only with the salary from Shengshi Entertainment, but also with the extra money he could earn.

Talking about making money is always a pleasant experience. Hu Xiaoxiao smiled and said, "I believe it won't be long before Teacher Nie can buy a big house."

Nie Jinlong quit his job at the TV station to work for her because their house was too small, and his son wouldn't have anywhere to live when he got married. The housing issue had been a major worry for Nie Jinlong.

Now, this worry will soon be cured with money.

“I’ve actually found a house I like…” Nie Jinlong happily discussed the new house with Hu Xiaoxiao. He had enough money to make a down payment, and once he earned more money to renovate and buy appliances and furniture, he could buy a new house.

While watching the filming on set, Hu Xiaoxiao chatted with Nie Jinlong about the house in a very relaxed manner.

Of course, the reason she and Nie Jinlong were so relaxed was because the actors performed very well, so they didn't have to worry about them.

The cruise ship scenes were filmed in three days, and then they moved to another location. The new location wasn't far away; it was another factory next door where they filmed the fight scene with Da Lai.

However, before filming this fight scene, a racetrack that the crew had rented happened to be available, so the director decided to film the car chase scene first.

The plot involves four female police officers who track down Da Lai and follow him in their car, resulting in a tense and exciting car chase.

This car chase scene is more extensive and dangerous than the previous armored truck robbery scene. Screenwriter Liang Jiafeng was inspired by Hu Xiaoxiao to write this scene. Hu Xiaoxiao has a very exciting car chase scene in "The Bund," which has been considered a classic moment.

After learning about Hu Xiaoxiao's impressive driving skills, Liang Jiafeng specially wrote this scene for Hu Xiaoxiao to highlight her shining moment.

Although the second season of "The Inspector Wears Skirts" still features four female leads, the roles are differentiated, with Yunxiao being the true center of attention. Liang Jiafeng put the most effort into writing the script for Hu Xiaoxiao.

"Sister Xiao, this car chase scene is too dangerous. Why don't you hire a stunt double?" Director Jia Zhendong once again tried to persuade Hu Xiaoxiao.

When the director decided to film this scene, he read the script and felt it was too risky. He wanted to hire a stunt double, but Hu Xiaoxiao insisted on doing it herself and rejected Jia Zhendong's suggestion.

Jia Zhendong believed in Hu Xiaoxiao's abilities, but what if the boss himself was going to do such a dangerous scene and something went wrong?

He was afraid that if the same explosion happened again, Huang Sheng would kill him.

Hu Xiaoxiao refused Jia Zhendong again, saying, "The stunt double's driving skills are not as good as mine. He can't portray the danger and excitement the script wants to express, unless we hire a professional race car driver. But professional race car drivers' appearance fees are too high. Why waste money on that? Besides, they may not even be willing to be a stunt double for an actor."

Seeing that he couldn't persuade Hu Xiaoxiao, Jia Zhendong had no choice but to go to the assistant director Shen Chunming and ask him to carefully inspect both cars and the road conditions.

“We’ve checked it three times already.” Shen Chunming was even more nervous than Jia Zhendong, fearing that someone might have infiltrated the area to cause trouble, just like last time. He specially invited three technicians over, each to check it once, and only felt at ease after confirming it was safe after all three checks.

It has to be said that the last explosion accident left the entire crew on edge. Coupled with the recent troubles caused by the Yi Hai Gang and the Chang Hing Society, they couldn't be more cautious than they thought.

Hu Xiaoxiao got into the car and gave it a try. As someone who is very familiar with cars, she also knows some car knowledge. In addition, she has keen senses, and as soon as she heard the sound of the engine, she felt that there was nothing wrong with the car.

Yu Liang, who plays Da Lai, ran over and said, "Since Sister Xiao is doing it herself, I want to do it too. Director, I'm also a pretty good driver; I've practiced it."

The advantage of having a script written early and being well-prepared became apparent. The actors knew what they were going to play in advance and started practicing early. Once they joined the crew, they were all seasoned veterans.

Jia Zhendong knew Yu Liang; he was a hard-working and ambitious guy. Just from the way he jumped out of the window to get into the car, you could tell these guys were something. "You'd better be careful."

Yu Liang laughed and said, "It's not like we actually crashed into it; it wasn't as dangerous as when we were filming action scenes."

Action scenes need to be filmed with real fighting and falls in front of the camera to look realistic. The most intense car chase scenes, where two cars collide, are either filmed using camera tricks or made from wrecked cars; it all depends on filming techniques. For Liang, this is even safer than when filming action scenes.

"Let's begin then." Seeing that everyone was ready, Jia Zhendong started by filming a long shot. The shot showed Hu Xiaoxiao and three "femme fatales" chasing after Da Lai and his henchmen.

For this scene, the director chose a road with two bends, found a high spot, set up the camera, and then gave commands to the actors via walkie-talkie.

After the starting signal, Yu Liang sped ahead, with Hu Xiaoxiao close behind. The two cars drew ever closer. Due to the high speed and the need to navigate a curve, the friction between the tires and the ground created a loud air noise.

Hu Xiaoxiao drove calmly, deliberately losing control briefly on a sharp turn to create a sense of suspense, then using her superb driving skills to regain control and catch up with the car in front.

Sitting in the back, Yuan An'er and the others gripped their seatbelts tightly, so nervous they almost forgot to breathe. They didn't have to get in the car; they could have just had three stand-ins change into their clothes. After all, it was a long shot, and unless the viewer had particularly sharp eyes and was looking for something obvious, they wouldn't be able to tell who was in the car.

But since the boss was personally involved, Yuan An'er and the other two decided they couldn't back down and got into the car as well.

They hadn't expected their boss to drive so recklessly; if their seatbelts hadn't been holding them tightly, they felt they would have been thrown out of the car.

Yu Liang, who was in front, also showed off his driving skills, and the scene of the two cars chasing each other was filmed very successfully.

To make it easier to select footage for later editing, Jia Zhendong had them film one more time before it was approved.

After shooting the long shots, the next steps are medium shots, close-ups, and extreme close-ups.

To get the best shot in this car chase scene, Hu Xiaoxiao had very high standards, constantly repeating the scene and trying out the best shot, which resulted in the filming taking five days to complete.

The story then follows the chase to an abandoned factory, where a thrilling and intense fight ensues.

Compared to making the factory look new when filming the cruise ship's lower deck, for this film, the crew specifically chose an older factory and deliberately made it look old and dilapidated to create the image of the robbers' final, desperate fate.

Today, Hu Xiaoxiao wore a red outfit. Although the design was simple and the style ordinary, it still made her stand out. When the four leading ladies were on screen together, she overshadowed the meticulously dressed Yuan An'er and others. At the same time, it also demonstrated the irreplaceable central role of the protagonist.
