Red Dead Redemption: The Great Philanthropist of the West

Chapter 90 The Western King of Fighters is Gone

"Has anyone seen that idiot Bill? We haven't seen him at all."

Arthur, drunk and carrying a bottle of liquor, walked up to Javier and the others and asked.

“I heard he went hunting, but it’s been several days and I haven’t seen it come back yet. I’ll go to the place where he usually hunts tomorrow to look for it.”

Havel's touch on the strings conveyed to Arthur the news he had heard from the ladies. He then whispered something under his breath:

"I guess it's because Dutch wouldn't let him go on this mission to save Sean. He felt that Dutch was looking down on him, and his pride was hurt. He wanted to go out and clear his head to vent."

Javier recalled Bill's question, "What about me?", when Dutch was arranging the operation to rescue Sean, only to be met with Dutch's merciless mockery, "Yeah, and what about you?" He was usually closer to Bill and understood Bill's personality better than others.

Bill has a strong sense of pride and particularly dislikes being told he's brainless (even though he genuinely isn't). He's also a bully who picks on the weak and fears the strong, loves to boast, but doesn't actually have much ability. He's often targeted by others.

For example, Bill once boasted that he could take on 20 sailors, but in the Valentine's Tavern, he was challenged to a duel and sent flying by a single punch.

For example, in the first chapter, before the train robbery, it was Lenny who teased Micah first, but in the end, it was Bill who got beaten up by Micah.

For example, at Horseshoe Lookout camp, Bill harassed Javier, who captured him in a second and made him beg for mercy.

For example, later in Rhodes, he was captured alive by Sheriff Gray.

After hearing Javier's words, Arthur felt relieved, though a faint unease lingered. He could only console himself that it was probably due to hearing news of Pinkerton again recently, or perhaps he had been too overworked. A good night's sleep would make him feel better.

However, shortly after Javier went out the next day, he returned with a sullen face.

Bill died while hunting alone. He was outnumbered and captured by bounty hunters. Then, for reasons unknown, the bounty hunters' camp exploded, killing everyone, including Bill.

Upon hearing this devastating news, everyone in the camp fell silent. The carefree atmosphere after the previous night's revelry was gone, replaced by a somber mood. They were unsure whether they were feeling lost because of Bill, the gang, or their own future—perhaps a combination of all of these.

Abigail, in particular, hugged little Jack tightly. At that moment, she desperately wanted to leave the gang and live a peaceful life with little Jack, instead of living in constant fear.

But as a vulnerable woman with little Jack, survival in this chaotic Western world was uncertain, and the source of their livelihood was also a major concern. All she could do was plead with John beside her.

John, being the simpleton he was, couldn't understand what Abigail was trying to say, and they could only look at each other in silence.

"Listen to me, everyone, this was just an accident. We weren't tracked down. Those people (bounty hunters) were just passing by and happened to run into Bill. As long as we keep a low profile and are careful, we'll be fine."

We have faith, believe in us. We have a plan. Soon we'll be able to leave here. Once we sell the bonds and have enough money, we can go wherever we want, anywhere, where nobody knows us, and start a stable life again.

Lenny, Javier, Charles, you all keep watch around the camp.

Arthur, John, you two are responsible for going into town to gather information. Be careful.

Strawberry Town

Unlike the subtle atmosphere at Horseshoe Lookout, this place was quite lively.

Upon hearing that Henry needed help in establishing a zoo, Chief Rain personally led a team over.

Since there was something they could do to help Henry, the members of the Native American tribe were all eager to participate and expressed their willingness to come. In the end, Rain personally selected several experienced elders and 10 strong young men and women.

Besides the area around Luoyu, Butler William also arranged for an engineering and construction team, as well as the Ding sisters and their trained assassin squad to come over. Their reasoning was that the complex terrain, with its abundance of jungle and animals, was suitable for training. Bringing the team over for practice would also allow them to serve as temporary bodyguards.

Jenny and Ellie also came along. Jenny's injuries had long since healed, and she wasn't wanted by the authorities. Hearing about Ellie and Henry's experience on the snow mountain, she couldn't contain herself any longer. This time, she happened to hear that Henry needed help, so she abandoned the Calander brothers and dragged Ellie along to keep him company.

Now that Luoyu had come, Henry was happy to relax and told him about the zoo's planning and construction, as well as the recruitment requirements in Strawberry Town, so that he could take charge of the arrangements there.

After giving Jenny and the others a cursory tour of Strawberry Town, he went up Mount Sean to capture the zoo's first guest—a white cougar.

Before going, Henry specifically asked Sheriff Farley for the address of a young man named Winton Holmes. Henry remembered that his family was a family of hunters, skilled in hunting for generations. However, it was a high-risk job, and accidents could happen, not to mention that they often tracked cougars, animals known as nocturnal killers.

When Henry and his party found Winton in a sheltered spot on a small hill, they were speechless at his shabby makeshift shelter, saying that even a simple tent would have been better than his place.

Winton was quite surprised to hear from the person who came to his door. His father's tragic death in a hunting accident had made him acutely aware of the high risks involved in hunting. Therefore, he resolutely abandoned this profession he once loved and became unemployed. However, due to the pressures of life, he had to return to the job. If he couldn't find good game, he would have to borrow money to get through his current difficulties.

Fortunately, he recently tracked down a rare pure white cougar. If he could capture it, he wouldn't have to worry about money for the next three months. However, the cougar was extremely alert and ferocious. He discovered that at least three people had died because of it, and he couldn't handle the beast alone.

After learning of Henry's group's purpose and the $10 fee Henry offered for guiding them, Winton readily agreed and enthusiastically explained the habits of cougars and precautions to them along the way.

Finally, the group found the pure white cougar that Winton had been tracking in a large cave. They managed to subdue it safely with a powerful bait laced with a large amount of anesthetic by Henry, and then locked it in an iron cage that Henry had previously had made. It would be released into a designated area once the zoo was completed.
