Red Dead Redemption: The Great Philanthropist of the West
Chapter 64 Marston, Bitten by Wolves
"This damn weather is terrible! Who would have thought that in May, such a heavy snowstorm could occur?" Arthur Morgan cursed under his breath, pulling his cloak tighter to try and ward off the biting wind.
"It's all your fault, Henry. Why did you have to drag me out into the cold wind? Wouldn't it have been better to stay inside by the fire and drink?"
"Alright, alright, stop pretending. I know you're worried about your little brother too."
"Hey, you're lucky. Have a couple of sips to warm yourself up." Henry tossed Arthur a bottle of Wild Turkey (one of America's most famous premium bourbon whiskey brands), and took one for himself and took a few sips.
Arthur didn't stand on ceremony, taking the bottle and gulping down several mouthfuls. He licked his lips, savoring the lingering taste of the strong liquor in his mouth.
"Ah, this wine is really good. Henry, give me another bottle."
"Why didn't you bring this good stuff out sooner? It's just going to find someone, no big deal."
"This is some of my prized spirits, not much, so drink it sparingly," Henry said after tossing Arthur another bottle. Arthur deftly caught the bottle, put it in his backpack, and walked ahead.
When the two followed the stream to a fork in the road, they saw a campfire that had just gone out.
“That idiot Marston must have headed towards the glacier. He hasn’t been gone long. Let’s hurry and follow him. I wonder what he’s encountered. I hope he doesn’t just run away again.” Arthur muttered to himself as he walked, “He’s as useless as scrap metal and always gets himself into trouble.”
Not long after they left, the two encountered another horse that had been torn apart by wolves. Arthur recognized it as John's and showed some concern. However, due to the new snow cover, the tracks became increasingly difficult to detect, and Arthur gradually slowed down.
Henry knew the situation was urgent, so he immediately drove Hawkeye ahead to lead the way. After all, this was the real world, and it would be funny if John ended up being devoured by wolves if something went wrong.
With the help of the hook, and with Henry already knowing John's approximate location, the two quickly found the injured John at a secluded cliff.
After Arthur mocked Marston, whose face bore several wolf claw marks, he carefully carried him on his back. With Henry protecting them as they cleared two waves of wolves, they successfully brought John back to camp.
Abigail was overjoyed to see that John was still alive and kept thanking Henry and Arthur.
Although Abigail thought it was incredibly stupid for a grown man like John to let himself be chased by wolves, she still took good care of him, though she wouldn't stop talking, constantly questioning John about why he had gone to feed the wolves.
John, seeing her expression, could only helplessly reply that he hadn't wanted to either.
Upon hearing this, Abigail continued her tirade: "Yes, your intention will never be to improve the quality of wild animal diets, but you always make mistakes."
John, growing impatient, retorted sarcastically, "Yes, I've made a mistake (alluding to Jack)." Hearing the veiled meaning in John's words, Abigail angrily pressed him, "What do you mean?"
“Interpret it however you like,” John continued to retort.
"You... go to hell!" Abigail stormed off, furious, after seeing John's wounds being bandaged by Dr. Jones.
.......
Meanwhile, Dutch finally learned from the prisoners that Odrisco was planning to rob a private carriage on the Cornish train. After he had devised numerous plans, intending to first raid Odrisco's gang's stronghold in Ewing Basin before approaching Henry to discuss cooperation and ask if Henry was interested in pulling off a heist, he discovered that Henry had already wiped out the bandits in Ewing Basin.
Dutch was disappointed. He desperately needed a brilliant robbery to ease the tense atmosphere in the gang and rebuild his heroic image in everyone's eyes.
However, he quickly remembered something and asked Henry expectantly, "I wonder if Henry and your men searched carefully for anything after you took down the Odrisco gang?" He figured Henry might not have noticed the train incident and wouldn't have specifically searched for explosives and maps, so he could lead his men to search for them.
"If Dutch, you're attacking the Odrisco gang's stronghold in Ewing Basin to get maps and explosives, I can provide them to you. However, I don't recommend robbing it. He's a tycoon, a very wealthy tycoon, and I don't think it's a good thing for you to offend him. Of course, the decision is up to you."
He then gestured for Li Yi to retrieve the intelligence, maps, and explosives they had gathered earlier, and handed them all over to Dutch.
Dutch excitedly accepted the items, indicating that he would seriously consider them with his gang members. He said that if they decided to do it and succeeded, Henry would get a large share of the money.
Henry stopped Dutch, who was carrying explosives and maps and preparing to go back to revise his plan. "I don't need the money. After all, I don't intend to participate in the hijacking. But if you guys really do hijack that train, bring back all the documents and letters you don't want from the Cornish private carriage. They might be of some use to me."
“Of course, no problem.” Dutch was happy to cut back on expenses, especially since the gang was short of money.
“Dutch, don’t rush off. There’s something else I think I should tell you. Jenny and the Calander brothers are still alive, but they were seriously injured in the heist and will need at least a year or two to fully recover. Blackwater is currently under strict lockdown by Pinkerton, so I can’t easily bring them out. I can only have them sent to a secluded place for treatment and recuperation.” Henry stopped Dutch, who was eager to leave, and decided to tell him this information. Anyway, he didn’t plan to bring them back. After Mike’s recovery, it was questionable whether the gang would even exist.
"This is the best news I've heard in a while, Henry. We owe you another big favor." Dutch was also happy to hear this news. At least he had another reason to convince everyone that the Blackwater heist wasn't a failure. They got the money, and so far, no one was injured. As for bringing the Calander brothers back, he temporarily ignored it. Since they were already seriously injured, bringing them back now would not only be useless, but would also require manpower to take care of them. It would be better to let them stay with Henry to recover.
