Red Dead Redemption: The Great Philanthropist of the West
Chapter 58 Arrival at Plow Village
Soon after, Henry and his party arrived at Ewing Basin, a stronghold of the Odrisco gang.
The last time I came here was just a few months ago. I was all alone then, having just transmigrated. This body was still being strengthened, and I hadn't fully mastered it yet, so I had to carefully take detours.
Today, with Henry and his group of eight, there was no need for concealment. They charged straight in, quickly cutting through the enemy lines and acquiring a considerable amount of explosives and a detailed map of the area. It was just a pity they still hadn't found Emmett Dalton, the man who murdered Ellie's daughter.
After a short rest, the group continued north. They had just learned from the bandits where Erton was. They had gone northwest, and they heard there was a ranch there, so they could rob some supplies for the gang.
The Odrisco gang was planning to rob the train from Leviticus Cornwall. They had prepared explosives, maps, and other supplies, and were just waiting for the train to arrive in a few days. With nothing else to do, Dalton, unable to contain his lust, decided to do some activities in the surrounding area. He overheard that the Adler rancher in the northwest had a beautiful wife, so he decided to go and visit her, and maybe even get some supplies for the gang.
Henry planned to get there as soon as possible. If the original plot remained unchanged, Dalton would be almost at Adler's Farm, and then something cruel would happen to Sadie. He hoped Sadie had listened to him and left the ranch long ago. As a friend, Henry didn't want her to spend the rest of her life solely on revenge, and as for being a Valkyrie, it was better not to be one.
What's the point of becoming a Valkyrie if you have no ambition, no zest for life, and only a desire to die? Some might not understand and think Henry's actions are saintly. They might argue that he should have flown to Paris, taken Metro Line 4 to Cité station, walked east for about 10 minutes to Notre Dame Cathedral, entered through the south entrance into the transept, and asked the Virgin Mary to make room for Henry.
However, Henry didn't mind. He didn't consider himself a saint; he had his own dark side. Given the opportunity—without violating moral principles or harming himself—why not help his friends and admirers from his past life, and make new friends?
As the group crossed Lake Isabella and continued along Spider Canyon, the weather suddenly turned bad, with strong winds picking up. With no village or shop in sight, they had no choice but to continue against the wind. Soon after, it began to snow heavily, quite unusual for late spring.
Fortunately, Henry had told everyone to bring warm clothes and plenty of supplies before they left. At the time, no one understood, but they just followed Henry's instructions and brought them. Unexpectedly, they actually came in handy and admired Henry's foresight.
After donning their winter clothes and continuing their journey for several more hours, the group finally arrived at Plowstone Village at dusk. It was an abandoned mining town, and as the snow intensified, a thick layer of snow had accumulated on the ground. Henry and his party had no choice but to find a place to stop and rest, to avoid the blizzard.
Henry was puzzled as he looked at the firelight shining from the largest house in Plowshare Village ahead. Logically, there should be no one here right now. The Van der Linde gang should still be hiding from Pinkerton's pursuit north of Spider Canyon and wouldn't be here so soon.
He signaled to everyone to be careful, tied the horses at a distance, grabbed their weapons, and cautiously approached the house. After searching the area, they found that only this large house was inhabited, along with two horses that had just been fed in the stables, and a wagon loaded with supplies. Looking at the reddish-brown Tennessee trotter before him, Henry felt a sense of familiarity; it was a horse he should recognize, but he couldn't quite place it.
Regardless of the situation for now, after confirming that there were only a few people on the other side, Henry signaled everyone to be careful and on guard. He and Li Yi then went up and knocked on the door, shouting loudly, "Is anyone home? We are travelers passing through and have encountered a snowstorm. We would like to rest here for a while."
As Henry's voice rang out, a series of commotion erupted from inside the house, as if someone had been startled and accidentally bumped into something. A moment later, a hoarse female voice came from within. "We can't accommodate you here. None of the houses here are occupied. You can rest in one of the empty houses over there."
Hearing the familiar voice, Henry breathed a sigh of relief. He also remembered the Tennessee horse from earlier; wasn't that Sadie's Hera? Sadie had ridden it to give him a ride before.
“Saddy? Is that you in there? It’s me, Henry Allen. Your friend.” Henry replied happily, but he didn’t let his guard down. It wasn’t until Saddy heard the familiar voice, realized what was going on, and opened the door that she lowered her gun.
"Oh, Henry, is that really you? It's so good to see you. Ark, come and see who it is." After opening the door, Sadie put down her shotgun and gave Henry a big hug without any ceremony. Then she stepped aside to show Ark, who was also holding a shotgun.
"Come on, Henry, it's so good to see you. Come in and have a seat. We can have a proper chat later. I'm still cooking." She said, pulling Henry inside.
“Wait, Ark, I have some friends here. Do you mind if they come along?” With that, Henry gestured and signaled that it was safe, gesturing for everyone to come out and bring the horses over, settling them all into the stable.
"Of course, Henry, your friend is our friend. Come in, everyone, I'll make you a big pot of hot soup again." Ark was startled by the sudden appearance of the crowd, but quickly recovered and warmly greeted them. They trusted Henry.
Once everyone entered the warm house, they all breathed a sigh of relief and drank the hot coffee that Sadie served, which immediately chased away much of the cold outside.
A little while later, Yak brought out the dinner he and Sadie had prepared earlier and gave Henry and the others a taste before going back to preparing the ingredients. Henry asked Ellie and Robert to come and help.
The others went to the house next door to tidy up their rooms, preparing for their night's rest.
Before long, everyone finished their assigned tasks and gathered again around the campfire, enjoying freshly cooked, steaming hot food and stew, then lay down on the ground contentedly.
"Saddy, Yak, what brings you to Plowstone Village? We haven't heard from you in so long. It's a pleasure to see you safe and sound," Henry said to the Adlers, rubbing his slightly full stomach after they had eaten and drunk their fill.
