Red Dead Redemption: The Great Philanthropist of the West

Chapter 45 On the Eve of the Great Heist

“Hey Henry, what’s the rush to see us? Dutch won’t let us in town right now, so we sneaked out and need to get back as soon as possible.” David quickly explained the situation to Henry as soon as they met. Meanwhile, Mike and Jenny reached for the bottles of liquor on the table.

“No rush, David, sit down and have a drink first. I have something important to tell you, something that concerns your lives.” Henry helped David sit down and poured him a sherry. As for Mike and Jenny, they had already poured themselves some. After clinking glasses with them, Henry slowly began to speak:

"Your gang is planning that armored truck from the North District Bank the day after tomorrow, isn't it?" Henry said in a declarative sentence.

The three people opposite were so shocked by these words that they stood up and stammered, unable to speak.

“Sit down, what’s the big deal? This is my territory, and I’m in the intelligence business. If I didn’t even know this much, what use would this intelligence department be? Besides, the targeting of your intelligence gathering is so obvious, even a fool could guess it. Don’t worry, I’m not here to expose you. Come on, sit down.” Henry pressed them back into their chairs and poured them another glass.

"Then why are you telling us all this, Henry? What did you mean by 'life-or-death' just now?" David was the first to come to his senses and asked Henry.

"I'm telling you all this so that you know that what you're planning isn't exactly a secret. More importantly, this armored ship could very well be a trap. I know the decision isn't yours, and I can't persuade your boss. I just want you to be careful, especially Mike. Don't rush in headfirst."

In that confined space, no matter how well you dodge, you can't escape Maxim's gunfire. David, you're always so reliable; keep a close eye on him. I don't want my new friend to die so easily because of some trivial matter. Of course, you should too, David.”

David was surprised when Henry said it was likely a trap, but he became worried when he heard that Mike might die as a result. "Thank you, Henry. No wonder I've noticed a lot more bounty hunters in town lately. If it's true, we brothers owe you one. I'll take good care of Mike. Maybe I should tell Arthur to come with me to try and persuade Dutch, although I know the chances are slim."

When Mike heard Henry's words, he muttered, "They used to say he threw the explosives well, and now they're saying he was reckless."

When David, who was next to him, heard this, he slapped his head again and growled, "Is that the point? Can't you worry about your life first?"

At this moment, Jenny, who had been standing to the side, tugged at Henry's sleeve and whispered, "Henry, what about me? I don't have to fight, but am I in danger too?"

"Little Jenny, I can't say for sure whether you'll get hurt or even lose your life in this heist. I just want you to know how dangerous this is. If Dutch assigns you any tasks, you must be extremely careful."

"And didn't you want to leave the gang before? Why haven't you done anything about it since? If you're worried about having nowhere to go, you can come and help me out." Henry replied softly.

"Ah, how did you know I wanted to leave the gang? Did I make it that obvious?" Jenny muttered resentfully.

"What do you think? Judging from how you looked down on Micah and how you were counting money, not only me, but Arthur probably knows what you're thinking too, otherwise he wouldn't have brought you along last time."

"After all, Arthur and Dutch saved my life, and most of the gang members have been quite nice to me. Although I don't like the gang's usual robbery behavior, I can't just leave directly. I thought I'd help them complete this mission, and then I'd leave. I don't need them to give me any money; consider it repayment for their previous rescue."

But after I came out, I really didn't know what to do, so I was thinking of saving up some money first, finding a place to settle down, and then slowly considering what to do next.

"But if Henry, you could take me in, that would be wonderful. Then I wouldn't have so many worries."

“Okay, it’s settled then. Come on, give me a high five.” Henry said, raising his hand.

"Oh, I never knew Henry had such a childish side. You always seem so confident and composed. I almost forgot you're only a year or two older than me." Jenny said with a hint of disdain, but her little hand obediently gave Henry a high five.

"David, Mike, Jenny, I won't say much more about persuasion. If—and I mean if—you really encounter danger, you can seek my protection in these places. I will arrange for people to support you there. Don't ask any questions, just be careful not to reveal your identities, and simply follow them. Understand?"

Henry pointed out several locations on the map of Blackwater and indicated that the people supporting them were acquaintances or people with specific markings on their hands.

"Okay, we've got it. We need to get back now. Thank you, Henry. I'm so glad to have you as a friend." With that, the three of them waved to Henry and quickly left.

.......

Time passed quickly and it was April 1st, the day before the bank's cash transport ship arrived at the Blackwater Wharf.

In the wilderness, Henry gathered the core members together again, in the same living room as before.

"The main reason for gathering everyone here is to confirm that everyone is ready and if there are any problems that require assistance."

After everyone responded that they were all ready, Henry continued:

"I received intelligence from Chief Dunbar that the bank has instructed them to send people to the docks to maintain order before 8 p.m. tomorrow. This means the armored ship will most likely arrive at Blackwater docks around 8 p.m. tomorrow."

Of course, we cannot rule out the possibility that the bank is deliberately spreading false information to mislead those with ulterior motives, so we still need to pay close attention throughout tomorrow and be prepared to take action at any time.

Paul, could you share some information from the past two days with everyone so they have a general understanding of how things are developing and can make the right decisions at crucial moments?

"Okay, boss. First, let's talk about the Odrisco gang, which I asked you to keep an eye on. Shortly after Norman the skinny monkey returned to Strawberry Town, their leader, Colm Odrisco, also came to Strawberry Town. In the past few days, gang members from other places have been arriving in Strawberry Town to gather."

According to the latest news today, they have gathered a team of more than 30 people and set up camp at Camp Riggs on the Upper Montana River.

Then there's the Van der Linde gang; most of their forces have already entered Blackwater. Currently identified members include: Arthur, Hosea, Dutch, Micah, David, Mike, John, Javier, Sean, Uncle, Jenny, and Bill.

Arthur and Hosea were at the real estate development camp on the west side of the North District. Dutch and the others hid in houses near the East District docks.

As for Fan Bang's camp, the people sent to monitor them saw the remaining members packing their belongings, seemingly preparing for a long journey.

Hearing this, Henry was also taken aback. In the game, didn't they only hurriedly have Pearson and the others pack their belongings and escape within five minutes after Dutch and his men returned from the robbery, resulting in a lot of supplies and money being left behind? Why are they packing their belongings and supplies in advance now? Is it because of Arthur and David's influence? Did everyone prepare to escape beforehand? (Here I really want to complain. Dutch was planning such a big heist, didn't he plan the camp's escape route in advance? Didn't he let the camp's non-combatant members evacuate in advance, or at least pack their belongings and supplies beforehand? Why wait until they returned from the robbery to hurriedly organize them? Does he think the police or Pinkerton are idiots? Or is Dutch deliberately doing this so that the camp's money can be lost naturally, allowing him to continue leading them in arson, murder, and looting? Also, they can take such a large wagon and luggage, but they can lose something as important and easy to carry as money. It's speechless.)

"In addition, recently a lot of scattered bounty hunters have come to the town. I heard that someone told them that a big case will happen here and there will be many opportunities to make money."

"Also, quite a few Pinkerton detectives have returned in the last couple of days, but many are new faces, unlike the people previously stationed in Blackwater." Paul finished speaking, looking at everyone to indicate that that was about it. As for the intelligence on the three gangs Grant was dealing with, they had already discussed it privately.
