Red Dead Redemption: The Great Philanthropist of the West
Chapter 15 Heading to Saint Denis
"Perhaps Mr. Grant would be willing to come to Blackwater and work for me. I own a ranch, a tavern, and am also planning to set up a small detective agency. You can choose the position you like."
"If you don't like going out, perhaps you could be a coach. I'll find a few young men for you to train their marksmanship. Think about it, Mr. Grant. I can offer you a generous salary and drinks."
"If you really need help, Mr. Henry, I will consider it, but I need some time. I also need to figure out this matter and the handover process. Whether I ultimately go or not, I will send you a reply within 10 days."
"Okay, take a rest. We'll go back to Annesburg tomorrow. Grant, if you need any help, just ask me. Don't hesitate to ask. Even if you don't agree to work for me in the end, it's okay. We're friends."
"Oh, right, there's something else I might need your help with. You're the sheriff of Annesburg, can you issue bounty hunter licenses? Those licenses allow you to apprehend criminals across continents." Henry suddenly remembered the bounty hunter thing. There was a sheriff here; let's see if we can do it together.
“I’m sorry, Henry. In the West, only Saint Denis and Blackwater can issue interstate bounty hunter licenses. Other towns don’t have that authority. If you only need a license for within the state, I can get it for you directly.”
"Okay, let's rest first. We'll talk about it when we get to town tomorrow."
After Henry told Grant to rest, he took over the night watch for Eagle, telling everyone else to rest easy, since he was full of energy and wouldn't have a problem sleeping less for a day or two.
The next day, Henry gave Grant his Andalusian white horse, whose original horse had been killed by the Mauve family.
As for the two female hostages, Henry had taken the time to find out about them yesterday. One of them was from the town, named Emma, and he could take her back on the way.
Another little girl named Megan is homeless. She moved from Alabama with her family, but they were robbed by Movery on the way, and her family was killed. Now she is all alone.
When Henry offered her money to leave or to work as a maid in his house, she chose the latter without hesitation.
Then we'll have to bring them along.
Around noon, the group finally arrived in Annesburg. Grant took Emma home, while the rest of them went to the post office to buy several train tickets to Saint-Denis.
However, the train doesn't depart until evening.
During this time, Henry gave the four of them $200 to go to a clothing store to change their clothes. They could use the rest of the money to take a bath or get something to eat, and then meet at the hotel in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, he needed to process the weapons he'd looted from Movery and his men, and also take a bath. He'd been feeling unwell for days without a shower.
Upon arriving at the weapons shop, Henry kept only a few well-preserved shotguns and a cowboy revolver. He sold the rest to the shop owner.
The shop owner provided Henry with one of each type of firearm from the shop, totaling about ten guns, all equipped with accessories and ammunition.
There was also explosives, and the archery shopkeeper cheerfully replenished the supply. He even gave Henry complimentary bathing and lodging services.
For Henry, exchanging a bunch of junk for a complete set of weapons and equipment was a good deal. The only pity was that there was still no M1899 here, so it seemed he would have to go to Saint Denis to order one.
Of course, the boss made even more. With a total of sixty or seventy weapons, he could repair and maintain them and sell them as new guns. He made at least $2000 in profit from this deal.
Henry simply swept through the Mowvery family's collection, accumulated over several years, at Beaver Rock Cave, and, being wealthy and powerful, declared he didn't care. After all, the owner had to spend time and effort maintaining it before slowly selling it off to earn that price.
Enjoying a relaxing bath and being scrubbed by a beautiful woman, Henry's mind drifted into his backpack, taking stock of his treasure hunt spoils.
The original goal was 20 gold bars (I didn't go to the one near Horseshoe Lookout because it wasn't on my way). Each bar could be exchanged for at least $500, and if sold in bulk, it could probably be exchanged for even more, reaching the range of $550-$600.
Then there's the Mowgli family's treasure: three chests of jewels, the exact value of which is hard to calculate, but estimated to be over $40,000; a chest of 61 gold bars, worth over $35,000; and a chest of cash, exactly $30,000.
The total income exceeded $11. Finally, I can do many things without worrying about money for the time being.
After cashing out some of the gold and jewelry in Saint Denis, it's time to head back to Blackwater.
After taking a nap at the hotel, the sun had already set, and Flying Eagle and the others had changed into clean clothes and were waiting for him at the hotel.
After having a meal with Sheriff Grant at a nearby restaurant, Henry waved goodbye and told him to think it over carefully and write back to him.
He then boarded the train to Saint Denis with Flying Eagle, Antora, Lorian, and little Megan.
...
Accompanied by the whistling of a train, after more than ten hours, Henry and his party finally set foot on the blue brick floor of Saint Denis, the largest city in the West.
Although it was still early morning, the city was already awake. Dockworkers were busy moving things around the station, while in the distance, a large cluster of smokestacks was billowing thick black smoke.
The mixed smells in the air made Flying Eagle and the others feel uncomfortable.
"This is the price of urban civilization development. We cannot stop this trend; we can only adapt to it."
Of course, it's normal that you can't accept this all at once; we'll adapt gradually. The air in other towns is still quite fresh.
"Let's go to the police station first and get our bounty hunter licenses. Having this license will make things much easier for us in the future."
Henry's main concern was that Native Americans, by their skin color, were more vulnerable to oppression by white people. Having a bounty hunter identity would at least deter them from going too far. At that time, both Native Americans and Chinese were among the lowest social classes.
Saint Denis has five districts: the central district (commercial district), the north district (wealthy district), the east district (poor district), the south district (dock district), and the west district (industrial district).
Each district has a police precinct, making a total of five police precincts plus one police headquarters.
Interstate bounty hunter licenses can only be issued by the General Bureau.
The police headquarters is located at the intersection of the commercial district, the affluent district, and the industrial district, not far from the train station.
After Henry and his group got off the bus, it was about a 20-minute walk to their destination.
Upon entering the police station, I quietly handed the officer who greeted me $1 and explained my purpose.
They then brought the man before a sheriff who was specifically in charge of dealing with bounty hunters.
Henry reiterated his purpose, pointing to himself, Eagle, Antora, and Lorian, explaining that they needed to obtain four bounty hunter licenses.
The sheriff said expressionlessly, "Your case is fine, the processing fee is $80. As for the three of them, no way."
Seeing this blatant contempt, Flying Eagle was about to step forward to argue. Henry quickly signaled to Antora and the others to pull him back and calm him down.
