Chapter 74 (Yunqiu) Longing

01

A delicate little bell hung on Xingqiu's Eye of God, a gift from Chongyun before his departure.

Sometimes, Xingqiu would sit at his desk and shake his Eye of God. A small bell had been added to the tassel that originally hung below the Eye of God. Others might find it a little strange, but Xingqiu thought it was quite nice.

Jingle bell, jingle bell.

The clear, melodious sound of the bells calmed Xingqiu's heart. The afternoon air carried a hint of weariness, but the sound of the bells cleansed the soul like a gentle spring.

Chongyun values cultivation and takes it upon himself to subdue demons and monsters. Xingqiu, however, cannot stay by Chongyun's side all the time; he also has his own responsibilities and family.

Therefore, most of the time, their separation was inevitable. This small bell was the one Chongyun gave to Xingqiu before he left the day before yesterday.

Whenever Xingqiu thinks of Chongyun, he shakes this small bell. Each vibration of the bell is a manifestation of his longing, and his love transforms into a long, clear, and melodious sound that resonates throughout the room.

02

Xingqiu hunched over the table, intently writing the next part of the story. When he got to the dramatic parts, he would excitedly raise his eyebrows.

With each stroke of his snow-white wrist, Xingqiu sketched a chivalrous figure from the martial world, capturing the essence of the character with unrestrained grace. The character he depicted was also imbued with Xingqiu's passionate spirit.

It had started raining outside the window sometime earlier. A sudden clap of thunder startled Xingqiu, and lightning flashed, leaving a menacing white mark. Xingqiu put down his pen and looked out the window. The sky was a hazy gray, devoid of light, and the rain poured down relentlessly.

The rain was pouring down, as if trying to wash away all the dust of the world. Xingqiu leaned against the window, watching the torrential rain. His eyes were somewhat vacant, as he thought of that pale blue figure, and memories of their time together kept flooding his mind.

I thought of the shyness in his eyes when he looked up, the panic when he got hot, and his trusting, icy blue eyes. They were such a cold color, yet they burned with a passion that could ignite my heart.

Xingqiu gazed at the rain, lost in thought for a long time, until he came to his senses and realized how much time had passed. Looking at the still hazy sky outside the window, Xingqiu suddenly felt a profound loneliness.

The surroundings were silent, save for the sound of raindrops falling. Xingqiu shook the Eye of God on his body, and when the bell rang, the room was no longer lonely.

03

In a cave in the wild.

Chongyun felt a bit unlucky. Someone had sought help from the Adventurers' Guild, saying that there were evil spirits on the mountain that would chase and harm travelers. Chongyun, whose mission was to exorcise demons, naturally packed his bags immediately upon hearing this news. After telling Xingqiu that he was coming, Chongyun hurried over.

Unfortunately, Chongyun couldn't find the demon after searching everywhere. He only found a Hilichurl wearing a demon mask. Chongyun wasn't stupid; he immediately understood what had happened. The lone Hilichurl had found such a mask somewhere and was randomly appearing to frighten everyone who passed by.

Chongyun couldn't help but smile wryly. He packed up and prepared to go back. Unexpectedly, he encountered a heavy rain on the way. After searching in the rain for a while, Chongyun finally found this dilapidated cave.

Chongyun hastily lit a campfire in the cave, only feeling some warmth when he got close to it. The bright flames in the cave also attracted someone's attention.

04

Chongyun took out his package, wanting to find something to eat. When he turned around, he found a little creature fiddling with his package; it was an ordinary squirrel.

It was probably because of the heavy rain that the little guy had nowhere to take shelter and went into the cave. When it saw Chongyun turn around and look at it, it immediately jumped to the other side. The little guy's fur stood on end, and its fluffy tail looked like a duster.

Chongyun had no intention of making things difficult for the small animal. Seeing that it was afraid of him, he scratched his head awkwardly and said, "Hello." Chongyun tried to take his package away as quietly as possible so as not to frighten the little squirrel on the other side.

Chongyun opened the package, took out some sunset fruits he had picked along the way, and placed them near the little squirrel, trying to feed it. The little squirrel's tail was no longer puffed up, and it stared blankly at Chongyun's actions, scratching its belly.

Chongyun then took out a box of exquisitely wrapped pastries, which Xingqiu had given him to take with him before he left. The pastries were filled with Qingxin and other medicinal herbs, and were specially made for Chongyun.

Chongyun took out a piece of pastry and took a bite. His icy blue eyes narrowed slightly; it was delicious. Chongyun praised himself inwardly, thinking, "As expected of Xingqiu, he's very reliable when he's not causing trouble, and he understands me very well."

Just as Chongyun was about to take a bite, a reddish-brown figure darted over, trying to snatch it away. Chongyun nimbly dodged, and the little squirrel failed.

“Your skills are far inferior to Xingqiu’s. He can…” Thinking of Xingqiu, Chongyun’s thoughts suddenly surged. He took a big bite of the pastry. Then he muttered to himself, “I need to go back soon.”

The little squirrel clearly didn't understand what the human was talking about. Since it hadn't managed to get any food, it decided to go back and eat fruit instead.

05

The sky cleared after the rain, the temperature was just right, and the gentle breeze was refreshing. The plants on the ground all looked brand new and invigorating.

The campfire in the cave had been extinguished completely, and the little squirrel was still squatting there, diligently munching on the sunset fruit, refusing to look up even when it heard Chongyun's farewell.

Chongyun smiled, shouldered his bag, and headed home.

06

Xingqiu stood on the stone steps of Liyue Harbor, gazing at the distant river. The shimmering surface reminded him of the sapphire on his mother's body. It was the same color, a pale blue.

"Xingqiu".

Xingqiu suddenly heard a call from behind him, the voice he had been waiting for. As he turned around, the bell on his Eye of God rang out with a clear, melodious sound.

Xingqiu saw Chongyun, noticing his disheveled appearance from rushing. Chongyun scratched his head, smiling shyly. Xingqiu, with a mischievous glint in his eyes, moved closer to Chongyun and wiped the marks off his face.

Chongyun stood there, letting Xingqiu wipe his cheeks. After wiping, Xingqiu kissed Chongyun's cheek. Xingqiu looked at Chongyun's suddenly flushed face and laughed happily.

Laughter spurred his body into motion, causing the bells to jingle. The boy's laughter, accompanied by the ringing of the bells, made Chongyun chuckle foolishly as well.

The weather was beautiful after the rain, with sunshine bringing a light mist. The light refracted, creating a brilliant rainbow over Liyue's harbor. The boy's most sincere emotions were more beautiful than any rainbow.
