Chapter 68 (Xiao Kong) Turning Around to Embrace the Sea 6
"what!"
Ying looked surprised, and her tone was incredulous. Then, she grabbed Kong's arm and shook him repeatedly, asking questions as she did so.
"You met a merman? What did he look like? Was he good-looking? Did he really have a fishtail? Did he hit you or bite you?"
Ying's questions came one after another, leaving his empty mind a little dizzy. He felt like he could see golden stars circling around his head, spinning round and round, their brightness making him uneasy.
"It's beautiful, it has a fishtail, and it's silver. It's very pretty."
When answering the last question, Kong paused for a moment, and suddenly remembered the kiss underwater, his face turning slightly red.
"He didn't hurt me. He's a very nice and gentle person."
Looking at Kong's expression, Ying instinctively sensed something was wrong. Her eyes narrowed, preparing to interrogate her brother thoroughly; it seemed there was definitely more to this than met the eye!
Sora noticed Ying's gaze and, before Ying could ask, blurted out, "I've spent several days with him, and he's wonderful in every way, with a very gentle temperament. I... I like him."
Ying's heart skipped a beat. Although she had anticipated that this matter was somewhat unusual, it was still different when Sora said it. Her initial plan to tease her brother a little changed, and Ying calmed herself down and asked Sora seriously, "Do you really like him?"
Kong's response was very serious: "I like him very much, and I want to be with him."
Looking at her brother's expression, Ying understood his thoughts. He had the same earnest expression when their parents left and he promised to protect her. And he truly had, protecting her for over a decade, unwavering in his commitment.
This was her most beloved older brother, her closest family member. Ying thought, "My best brother has found someone he loves now. He'll look so happy. That's wonderful." Ying felt a pang of sadness, but even more so, joy and blessings.
But Ying thought for a moment, "It would be very hard for you two to be together, is that okay?"
Ying was met with Kong's calm voice, "I've thought about it. You're all grown up now, and it's time for you to have your own life. I can move to that island. I've saved up quite a bit over the years; at least I can build a house there."
"The environment there is great, there are many small animals, and with the xiao there, I don't have to worry about any dangers at sea... If you miss me, you can come to see me by boat often..."
Sora slowly recounted many things, things he had been thinking about since his time on the island. When Sora told Xiao he would definitely return, he wasn't lying; he genuinely considered a future together. Sora wasn't afraid of difficulties; he would only try to overcome them.
Hearing Kong's words, Ying's eyes began to redden. "So you don't want me anymore?"
Kong quickly began to comfort Ying, who was about to cry, "How could that be? You are my most precious little sister, I would never abandon you."
Kong wiped Ying's cheeks with a tissue. "It will only take a few days to get there by boat, and it's not like I'll never be able to go back to land again."
Sora patted Hotaru's back, calming her down a bit. "Your house must have a room for me. I will definitely come to see you." Seeing Sora nodding vigorously, Hotaru continued, "I need to see him before I can feel at ease."
Seeing Ying's stubborn gaze, Sora could only nod helplessly. Sora knew that even if he didn't agree, Ying would find a way to do it herself. This girl had been strong-willed since she was a child, and she never hesitated to do what she said she would do.
Over the next few days, Sora packed his things while contacting friends to prepare for building a house on the island. Time flew by, and Sora's pace quickened. He finished his preparations and, with Ying in tow, once again took a boat to the deserted island.
The day before Sora was to take Ying on the ship, a figure knocked on their door.
Because Sora was cooking in the kitchen, it was Ying who opened the door. As soon as she opened the door, Ying saw the person before her. His light green hair was neatly tied back, and his golden eyes were fixed intently on Ying.
Upon seeing Ying's face, the person in front of her visibly paused for a moment. Then, as if realizing what she was doing, she said, "Hello, I'd like to ask for some free time."
Ying was a little confused, but she still opened the door and shouted, "Brother, someone is looking for you."
"I'm coming."
Sora, wearing an apron, walked out of the kitchen and was stunned when she saw the person in front of her. Sora put down what she was holding and walked up to the person.
"elf?"
"It's me, Kong." The voice that answered Kong was from the person in front of him.
Xiao's golden eyes looked at Kong, still carrying a hint of shyness. "You promised to come find me, but you didn't go back. I missed you, so I came to find you." His words were spoken with the same subtle pause as when Kong taught him to speak.
Sora hugged him excitedly for a while, then, after calming down, she circled him, quite surprised. "You can actually come ashore, and you even have legs! How are you feeling? Are you uncomfortable?"
Xiao shook his head and replied to Kong, "It doesn't hurt."
Ying watched the whole thing unfold, her initial surprise turning into hiding her face while peeking through her fingers, then realizing the two had only briefly hugged before silently lowering their hands. Finally, she uttered the fatal question: "Is it him, brother?"
Sora looked at his younger sister, touched his nose a little awkwardly, then pushed Xiao in front of her, took his hand, and said, "Hehe, this is him. Although I don't understand how he became like this. Let me introduce you, Xiao, this is my most precious younger sister."
"Ying, this is the guy I like. Isn't he beautiful?"
Xiao blushed slightly, but still nodded. "Hello, I like Sora."
Ying had originally intended to make things difficult for this guy, but he'd managed to steal her brother away in just a few days. Now, looking at his dazed expression, she couldn't help but feel a little sorry for him. Seeing how innocent he was, she was sure her naturally naive brother would have him completely under his thumb.
Ying sighed, no longer in the mood to argue with him. She simply nodded and greeted Xiao. Let those two date; her brother probably wouldn't be the one who suffers.
Then, Xiao suddenly made a sound, "It's burnt out, empty."
Sora and Ying exchanged a glance, their noses twitched simultaneously, and then they exclaimed in surprise.
"Brother!" This is Ying, who goes to her brother whether she has something to ask or not.
"My food!" Kong suddenly remembered that there was still food being cooked in the kitchen.
Clearly, Xiao's sudden appearance made Sora forget about the food that was still in the pot. Sora had originally planned to check who it was before going back to cook, but the surprise made him so excited that he forgot everything else. And so, tragedy struck.
