Chapter 100 (The Bell): The Executives' Regular Meeting

P.S.: This is a bit of a joke, so just treat it as a funny anecdote. All the executives are present, very OOC (out of character).

This was a typical executive meeting. Each executive would briefly discuss their recent tasks at this meeting. When the wealthy individual arrived, most of the other executives were already present.

The clown had arrived long ago. Wearing a half-mask, his cold, hard face exuded the chill of midwinter. He stood by the chair at the very front of the table, staring at his palm, lost in thought.

Before the doctor arrived, the wealthy man couldn't help but think about the funds he had recently allocated to him. They were piling up; it seemed he needed to find a way to reduce them.

The girl kept humming an unknown tune, and when she saw the rich man, she greeted him. Her smile was gentle, like that of a real young girl. The rich man returned the smile; he didn't want to provoke this troublesome fellow.

The captain and the rooster were discussing the city's recent developments leading up to winter. The rich man, who had only listened for a moment, immediately realized it was a troublesome plan. The puppet fiddled with its large doll to the side, while the skirmishers coldly closed their eyes, unwilling to watch.

As for the lady, ever since she returned from Mondstadt, she had developed a strange arrogance. Although no one warned her, the rich man himself felt that this woman would inevitably run into big trouble in the future.

The servant, however, calmly examined the notes in his hands. Even a wealthy person would guess that it concerned the household with the fireplace.

A quick glance around revealed that, aside from the doctor who hadn't arrived yet, only the figure at the very end of the table... oh, he was in the corner. For a moment, the rich man hadn't noticed him.

The rich man approached the corner where the young master was and found that he seemed to be talking to himself.

"Sir, are you still cold? I'm so glad you're willing to come back to Zhidong with me! You're the best!"

The rich man pondered the young master's recent mission. Oh, it was to retrieve the Heart of God from Liyue, the very god he hated most. Morax, he had once so desperately craved the gaze of a god, yet in the end, he received nothing.

The rich man's fingers clenched unconsciously as he thought of Morax, and if one looked closely, one could see the purplish-blue marks on his fingers. Feeling the pain, the rich man snapped back to reality.

Seeing the last seat muttering to himself, the rich man couldn't help but feel a pang of pity for him. "See? I told you the Geo Archon is the most despicable god. Even the warlike last seat went insane in Liyue." "He's so pitiful, I'll let bygones be bygones regarding his expenses in Liyue."

"Last seat, how's your work in Liyue?" The rich man asked with a smile, showing rare concern for his colleague.

D'Artagnan only turned around after hearing the rich man's voice. Seeing it was him, he scratched his head guiltily. After all, he had caused a lot of trouble in Liyue, and Ningguang was not someone to be trifled with. He had used a large sum of money from the Northern Bank to compensate the Liyue Seven Stars.

However, D'Artagnan assured him that he later used his own salary to appease his wife. Thinking of this, D'Artagnan felt justified again.

"Work is going fairly smoothly."

The woman beside her scoffed, and D'Artagnan thought again of what the lady and gentleman had been keeping from her. Although the gentleman had later apologized, D'Artagnan still felt uneasy thinking about it.

“I knew you were a great warrior.” The rooster, having ended his chat with the captain at some point, walked over and patted D'Artagnan’s strong arm.

Then the rooster continued, "Your sister is a very clever child, and she takes good care of the family. I'm ashamed to say that I haven't done as well as her."

D'Artagnan quickly replied, "I know you genuinely wanted to help me. I'm very grateful for your care of my family. When Tonya and Tok wrote back to me, they often mentioned that you would send back pies and gifts."

The rooster sighed, then asked Tartaglia, "Did you encounter anything interesting or meet anyone in Liyue?"

The rich man stood to one side, not really wanting to participate in their conversation. But what D'Artagnan said next made him stop in his tracks.

Tadalia's cheeks flushed slightly as she told the rooster as if she were telling an elder, "I have a lover, and he is a very good person."

"Oh?" The girl and the puppet leaned closer, quite perceptively.

The woman seemed to have thought of something and frowned.

D'Artagnan looked at the few executives who had gathered around, glanced at the rooster's curious eyes, and continued, "He is gentle and powerful; he is the best gentleman!"

"he?"

At some point, a servant who had also come over keenly grasped the key words.

Before D'Artagnan could speak, the woman said, "Hmph! Last Seat, in this respect, you are the strongest among all the executives."

The doctor, who had just entered the room, asked, "When did the Last Seat become the strongest among the Executives?"

Upon hearing this, the rich man said, "They're probably talking about the last seat's romance."

The soldier watched the doctor enter the room, then closed his eyes to avoid further annoyance. This guy's research is getting increasingly bizarre, the soldier thought. If it weren't for the strange look the puppet was giving him, he would have already changed the person examining him!

Before they knew it, all the executives had arrived. However, before the meeting began, they were quite curious about who the last executive was dating. And why he could even use the word "powerful."

D'Artagnan didn't want to talk about it anymore; he didn't want to expose his love to all the executives.

The lady, however, wasn't quite satisfied with the excitement. "The last seat is in love with a god from Liyue," she said casually, her words carrying a hint of languor. The executives present reacted differently, but all looked at Tartaglia.

The girl was no longer sleepy, exclaiming, "Wow!"

The rooster was surprised. "Really?"

Even the most indifferent clown looked over.

D'Artagnan nodded somewhat awkwardly. Seeing D'Artagnan's nod, the rich man's hands clenched again. He quickly recalled how D'Artagnan had spoken in the corner earlier, and he immediately understood.

"You brought him here?" This question further heightened the tension.

Seeing that the situation was not good, Zhongli's small dragon body emerged from Dadalia's neck.

"Don't worry, the Ice God knows I'm here. I won't interfere with your mission as executive officers."

"Sir, aren't you cold? Come back quickly."

As soon as Zhongli finished speaking, Dadalia looked at him nervously. Although Zhongli was not afraid of the cold, he liked Dadalia's warmth.

All the executives saw the dragon leaping from the last seat. They fell silent; clearly, this meeting was doomed.

The regular meetings started and ended arbitrarily.

After the clown said a few words, some of the executives left. Before they departed, the Doctor approached, wanting to trade some of Zhongli's scales and blood. Before Zhongli could say anything, D'Artagnan warily refused.

The rich man's eyes were fixed on the dragon on D'Artagnan's body, but he ultimately did not approach. Zhongli sensed this gaze and looked over.

Zhongli and the rich man exchanged a glance, and in a flash, Zhongli remembered the Liyue person who had submitted to Winter. But Zhongli didn't care much; he returned to Tartaglia's neck.

The rich man watched D'Artagnan's figure disappear, and finally left in anger. He didn't know what he was resentful about; there was hatred, but even more so, there was envy.

Pantalone was jealous that Datalia had received the attention of the gods.
