After Tang Wan's comforting words, Lin Anlan felt much better. In the carriage behind them, Huang Lewei, after a vivid and easy-to-understand physics lesson, roughly understood the principle of the combined attack technique that Su Yang had mentioned, and admired Su Yang immensely.
"Brother! I'm impressed!" Huang Lewei said excitedly, "Your explanation has really enlightened me, and I can't wait to try it out!"
Su Yang: "Don't rush, there's still time later. Try it when you're alone. Don't mention this to anyone else, and don't practice in front of anyone else."
"I know, don't worry, this is something only you and I know." Huang Lewei assured him in a low voice. Su Yang's theory was too novel, it could overturn all current understanding of elemental power in this world. He knew what kind of commotion it would cause if others found out.
The carriage traveled eastward, during which Su Yang took over driving from Charles. However, the atmosphere in the carriage behind them seemed rather unfriendly, with Huang Lewei's voice occasionally blaring as he reprimanded Charles. Charles would always respond meekly and softly. Whenever Su Yang opened the partition to try and persuade Huang Lewei to be kinder to Charles, Huang Lewei would just smile and brush him off before closing the partition again.
Sometimes Su Yang could see Lin Anlan peeking back from the carriage ahead. Whenever their eyes met, Lin Anlan would always back away first. It wasn't until night fell that Lin Anlan found a place to rest before stopping her carriage and coming to Su Yang's carriage. Before Su Yang could ask anything, she spoke first, but her voice no longer had that coldness; it was just a normal tone.
Let's rest here for the day.
Su Yang nodded, then jumped off the carriage, knocked on the carriage, and signaled to Huang Lewei and the other man that they could get off.
The five of them met up and found a small, sheltered hill nearby to set up camp. In other countries, this season might only be early winter, but in Slivia, it was no different from the dead of winter. The evening wind was like a sharpened knife, and if the wind was even slightly strong, it would sting their faces.
Tang Wan wanted to use the job assignment as an opportunity to bring the two together, but before she could speak, Lin Anlan took the initiative to invite Su Yang to go and collect wood around the area, claiming that she was afraid of danger.
Although Su Yang was a bit slow on the uptake, he wasn't so oblivious as to miss such a simple and kind lie. Knowing that it was Lin Anlan showing goodwill, he didn't expose her, simply responded, and left side by side with her.
As the two figures drew closer and closer into the distance, Tang Wan felt a surge of excitement and whispered, "Closer, closer! Oh dear, why aren't you hugging me yet?"
"Hey! What are you daydreaming about? Come and help!" Huang Lewei's impatient urging came from the side at an inopportune moment.
"What a spoilsport..." Tang Wan turned around and glared at Huang Lewei with displeasure, then reluctantly shifted her gaze to Huang Lewei's side and said unhappily, "What help are you giving me! Can't the two of you men handle this?"
As Huang Lewei pitched the tent, he complained, "What do you mean 'two men'? This kid can't do anything, I have to do it all by myself!" He then yelled at Charles, "What are you doing! Stretch the tent fabric taut before tying the ropes!"
Charles was startled by his sudden shout and immediately let go of the rope. Meanwhile, Huang Lewei was still pulling hard on the tent fabric, trying to taut it. Unexpectedly, the tension eased, and with a gust of wind, the tent fabric instantly covered his head.
His disheveled appearance amused Tang Wan, who burst into laughter: "Hahaha, you, trying to lecture others?"
Huang Lewei was also frustrated and helpless, so he could only keep his head down and get to work. Before long, the five of them sat around the campfire, eating and chatting. Afterwards, they returned to their tents to rest according to their gender.
The journey continued the next day, but at Tang Wan's strong suggestion, who said that Sister Anlan had driven all day yesterday and needed a rest today, she wanted to switch places with Su Yang to keep an eye on Huang Lewei and prevent him from scolding Charles again. Thus, Su Yang and Lin Anlan were assigned to the same carriage.
The journey was uneventful, consisting mainly of traveling and resting. However, Su Yang and Lin Anlan had reconciled and their relationship was back to normal. After arriving in Kherson, the group did not linger and continued their journey.
Finally, on the fifth day after setting off, they crossed the Levan River. After crossing the river, the group faced their first choice: whether to detour or to cross the mountain directly. Su Yang was a little cautious. Hearing from Eden that there were some dangerous beasts in the Mar Mountains, he did not want to take the risk and thought it would be better to detour directly.
However, Tang Wan suggested crossing the mountain. According to her, since they were an adventurer team, they should naturally travel everywhere and experience hardships; otherwise, what kind of adventurers would they be? Her statement left Su Yang speechless. An adventurer team doesn't have to experience every danger.
However, they couldn't persuade Tang Wan otherwise, and even Huang Lewei was forced to raise his hand in agreement. In the end, they decided to cross the mountain. However, after Lin Anlan explained that most of the ferocious beasts in Mount Mar were only B-level beasts, Su Yang felt much more at ease.
Following the main road in front of the mountain, two carriages entered the mountains one after the other. When they first entered the Mar Mountain area, things were fine; the mountain road was relatively flat, and they could occasionally find some items abandoned by adventurers on both sides of the road. As they went deeper, several wooden signs appeared ahead, leaning precariously. There seemed to be some words written on them, but they were too crooked to be read at first glance.
Gradually, the road ahead could only be vaguely discerned, until finally it was completely invisible. Fortunately, the mountain was not particularly steep, only the weeds were quite tall. However, it didn't affect us much while sitting in the carriage. As long as we were heading due north, we weren't afraid of getting lost.
Unbeknownst to him, the surrounding light gradually diminished. Su Yang looked up and saw that the trees in the forest had already blocked out the sky, with only sparse light filtering through. In the dim light, the horses pulling the carriage slowly came to a stop, refusing to move forward no matter how much Su Yang urged them.
Sensing something was wrong, Su Yang called out to the carriage behind him, "Something's not right. The horses aren't moving. There might be danger here. Let's turn around and take another route."
Huang Lewei agreed after hearing this, but it was too difficult for the carriage to turn around in this area. No matter how he drove it, the horses kept lifting their hooves, but the carriage seemed to remain stationary, and there were occasional clattering sounds.
Huang Lewei frowned and said, "Brother Yang, something's not right. Why do I hear the sound of water? Have we wandered into some kind of mud pit?"
"A mud pit? That's unlikely. How could there be a mud pit in the mountains? Besides, we're going uphill." Su Yang was also very puzzled. He decided to get out of the carriage to check, so he jumped down.
But as soon as he landed, the ground beneath his feet wasn't the solid ground he'd imagined; instead, it felt like a swamp. This sensation was unpleasant. He reached out and brushed aside the nearby weeds, only to discover that the spot he was in was emitting a strange green hue. Looking down, he saw that the soles of his shoes were covered in a lot of slime, and a feeling of nausea welled up inside him.
