Chapter 99 Freshmen at St. Louis College (6)
Reinhardt changed into a formal suit today, shedding his waiter's air and looking quite young and handsome.
Lin Yuanran noticed him, but he didn't notice Lin Yuanran.
Lin Yuanran walked over and greeted him with a smile: "Hello, this is our third time meeting."
Reinhard Lee looked up and recognized Lin Yuanran, his expression exactly the same as when Lin Yuanran had seen him before.
"W-Why are you here?"
"I'm here to go to school, what about you?"
"I'm coming to school too."
Well, they're alumni.
"Which class are you in?" Reinhardt asked.
Unlike the admission system in Lin Yuanran's original world, admission to St. Louis is as follows:
There are no grade levels or academic years in the college. Every year during recruitment, the school will show the list of new students to all the instructors in turn, and then select suitable candidates from among them.
If a disagreement arises and multiple teachers favor the same student, the school board will decide who gets the student.
If a student is not accepted by a teacher, this is also the solution, but such cases are rare, almost non-existent. After all, being able to get into St. Louis College means that the student must have some talent in some area.
Lin Yuanran is an exception; he was directly appointed by Cassius Bello to Principal Ampera, which is not part of the normal admissions process.
After students enroll, there is no fixed graduation time. If the teacher thinks you have learned well, he will arrange for you to take the graduation exam and then leave the school.
The extraordinary individuals who graduated from St. Louis were all elites. They either found employment in one of the seven ducal families, entered the Papacy to dedicate their lives to the Sun God, or went to work in the military—all were good career paths.
Of course, there are also some mavericks who choose to leave the duchy after graduation and travel to various places to adventure, which the academy has no say in.
Generally speaking, three or four years of study is enough. The longer you stay in the academy, the less capable or qualified you are; in fact, seniority is the most despised thing there.
Back in Torreg Town, Wind Chime said there was an oddball who held more than ten different jobs but still failed to graduate. Lin Yuanran wanted to see who this brave general was.
With nearly a hundred classes and over a hundred teachers in the academy, Reinhardt wanted to find out more about Lin Yuanran so he could look after him in the future. After all, they were from the same year and had met twice; they were practically old acquaintances, and it was always good to have more friends.
"Class 29," Lin Yuanran answered truthfully.
"Huh?" Reinhardt paused for a moment, and Lin Yuanran asked him what was wrong, puzzled.
Reinhardt said, "The great teacher was so famous that countless people wanted to be his students, but he never picked from the list of graduating students; he preferred to find them himself."
I heard they admitted a new student this year, and I never imagined it was you! Everyone in our year is so envious; I never thought I knew you.
"It's pure luck..." Lin Yuanran muttered to himself, then said, "Actually, I don't know what's so special about me. Maybe he took pity on me?"
Lin Yuanran chatted and laughed as he recounted to Reinhardt how he and his teacher had met.
For some reason, Lin Yuanran felt a sense of familiarity with Reinhardt and was happy to share many things with him. Later, Lin Yuanran realized that people from similar backgrounds tend to appreciate each other, have many topics to discuss, and it's hard not to become friends.
……
Sabrina dragged Lü Jianming back. Paninger looked regretful, as if she regretted that they hadn't been able to fight, otherwise she would have liked to try out the new oracle.
Lu Jianming plopped down next to Feng Ling, a seat that had been reserved for him, but Morgan had been sitting there, and he didn't know that.
Morgan turned around and sat in Lin Yuanran's seat, which was quite close to Feng Ling, separated only by Sabrina.
"Where's Ario?" Wind Chime asked.
"You seem to care about him quite a bit. You've never cared about any boy before, including me." Morgan's words were gentle, but the sourness was almost palpable.
Fengling frowned: "Do I need to tell you before I make friends?"
Actually, it's not a big deal for Fengling to ask, because even if she doesn't ask, others will. With one person missing, everyone will naturally want to know what he's doing. Morgan is overly sensitive in some ways.
“No, but I’d like to know,” Morgan said.
Sabrina quickly said, "Alright, have you two finished talking? Morgan, your classmates are here to see you."
Not far away, there were indeed two people standing, a man and a woman. The man was thin and tall, with a dejected look on his face and messy hair, as if he hadn't washed it for a week.
The woman was strong and tall, a full head taller than the man. She had dark skin, well-developed pectoral muscles, and thick arms. She had a single pure white bone spur on her head. She was a member of the Ghost Horn Tribe.
They whispered to each other, but didn't come over, looking like they wanted to disturb them but didn't dare to.
“I heard that Margarita handpicked five new students this year, one of whom is a werewolf from the Moon Gazing Grassland. Aren’t you going to go see your new classmate?” Wind Chime said.
Margarita is the tutor of Class 63. She has a good relationship with Cassius, and her class is one of the top in the academy. Morgan is one of her students.
“I’m glad you’re interested in our class,” Morgan said casually, then stood up.
Fengling stopped talking and stopped eating the snacks in her hand. She looked downstairs, but because of the crowd, she couldn't see where Ario was.
Morgan walked over to his classmate, whispered a few words to him, and then they went to their own classroom together.
"Alright, the person you hate is gone, you can continue talking now," Fei Wei teased. Feng Ling wasn't usually taciturn, nor was she always aloof; she was mostly normal.
Fengling raised an eyebrow: "But you're still here."
"Haha!" The carefree Paninger laughed. That's Fengling for you, using every possible way to insult people.
Fway was already used to Wind Chime's way of speaking, so he didn't actually go out. He stood up, made a gesture to leave, and when he realized that no one was trying to persuade him to stay, he sat down again, feeling awkward.
"Where did the teacher go? Classes don't start for another week?" Mirashu asked. During the summer vacation, Cassius didn't spend much time at the academy, and he had many questions about cultivation that he didn't have time to ask. Now that school has finally started, it's another week of self-study.
As the class monitor, Sabrina usually knew the most about the teachers, but this time Cassius said nothing.
"I don't know, maybe he took on some side job and went on an adventure somewhere," Sabrina could only guess.
“He went to take care of his own affairs. Some time ago, he made a deal with the Church of Death. I don’t know the specifics, but the Duchy is very unhappy about it. He should still be in Yicheng.” Fengling told her everything she knew.
Class 29 knew that Cassius was interested in politics. They were surprised that their teacher had persisted for so long, showing great patience. However, the students couldn't help him. In fact, students like Sabrina and Wind Chime were on the opposite side from their families' perspectives, so they couldn't possibly do anything reckless. They could only pray that their teacher would get what he wanted and provide some moral support.
"I'm going back now." Fengling got up to leave.
"Aren't we going to wait for Ario? There's still a ball later," Sabrina reminded her.
"That's why there are too many people, and we can't refuse them all."
"Okay...especially Morgan, right?"
The wind chime didn't answer that last question; it gracefully departed, the bells at its waist making not a sound.
