Firefly Journey

Chapter 9 The Poor Landlord and the Pretty Tenant (1)

"Who are you?" Lin Yuanran reviewed his experiences in this other world over the past six months, but found no such person, nor was he mentioned in the original owner's memories.

“My name is Wind Chime,” she said. “I’d like to rent your house.”

An outsider? That means an extraordinary person.

Lin Yuanran found it strange that his three wooden houses were nothing but dilapidated, yet this girl had such peculiar taste, actually liking such a place.

"Are you serious? Not only is this place remote, but the environment is also terrible. I really can't find a reason for you to rent it," Lin Yuanran said.

In truth, Lin Yuanran didn't want to refuse, because being neighbors with a superhuman would definitely allow him to learn many secrets, which would be of great help in returning home.

Besides, the fact that outsiders are not short of money has already spread throughout Torreg; being a landlord is much better than gathering herbs or being a bread-making apprentice.

Fengling said, "I rented it because it's in a remote location. I'm not picky about the environment. Name your price."

Lin Yuanran didn't want to take advantage of others, so he said, "You should take a look at the room first before deciding whether to rent it or not."

As he spoke, he opened the room that was usually used to store miscellaneous items. It was so full that there wasn't much space left.

Feng Ling looked around without showing any disdain and said, "It's very nice, and most importantly, it's quiet. How much is it? But I won't be staying here long; I might leave any day, so I'll pay you in one lump sum."

Lin Yuanran breathed a sigh of relief. As long as they didn't mind, at least he had some extra income.

"You can give me whatever you think is appropriate; I have no similar experience."

Who in their right mind would rent this place...?

As she reached for her waist, the bells on her slender waist jingled and tinkled with her movements.

She took out a gold coin.

"That should be enough, right? That includes the cost of meals."

Lin Yuanran stared wide-eyed, not because of the girl's beauty and perfect figure, but because of the gold coin in her hand. Damn, he had never fought such a rich battle in his life!

The currency system of the Principality of Bema is divided into four types: gold coins, silver coins, and copper coins. The three currencies are based on a base-100 system, with 1000 copper coins equaling 100 silver coins and 100 silver coins equaling 1 gold coin.

In addition to the three, there are also crystal coins above gold coins. The conversion method is decimal, with 10 gold coins equaling 1 crystal coin.

Normally, Lin Yuanran works himself to the bone and can only earn about 3 silver coins a month at most. This person directly gave him 1 gold coin as rent and food expenses, which is incredibly generous.

Fengling looked at Lin Yuanran standing there blankly, blinked, and said, "Is it not enough? We can discuss it further."

Lin Yuanran withdrew his gaze, stretched out his hand and said, "That's enough, absolutely enough."

Fengling seemed relieved, lowering her hand from her waist. Judging from her posture, she would probably ask for more money if Lin Yuanran said it wasn't enough.

Clutching the gold coins in his hand, Lin Yuanran was a little excited. It took him a while to react before he said, "I've paid the rent, but I still don't know your name. Just for security reasons, please show me your identification."

In Pangaea, every country issues identity cards to its citizens, just like on Earth.

Feng Ling reached to her waist and patted the hanging bell. In an instant, a notebook appeared in her hand.

"What kind of extraordinary method is this? Is her ability similar to a storage ring in cultivation novels?" Lin Yuanran wondered as he picked up the documents to examine them.

The thin notebook contained the girl's name and other information.

Lin Yuanran has a photographic memory and has memorized them all.

Xu Penglong, 16 years old, was born in Ibiza and should be a noblewoman.

“So your name isn’t Wind Chime…” Lin Yuanran said.

Wind Chime's expression remained unchanged: "They all like to call me that, I'm used to it. So, what about yours?"

"Mine?" Lin Yuanran realized, you don't trust others, and they don't trust you either.

Lin Yuanran ran back to his room and showed the documents that were under his pillow.

Ario Morris, 15 years old, from the Rhine Province.

The two had barely become acquainted. Since the other person was going to stay there, the storage room had to be cleaned out. Lin Yuanran was busy with all sorts of things and it took him five hours to finish cleaning up.

“I forgot one thing, I only have one bed at home. If you don’t mind, I can move it over for you to use…” Lin Yuanran said.

Wind Chime shook her head: "No need."

She gently stroked the bell at her waist, and a white single bed immediately appeared. Its exquisite and luxurious workmanship was something Lin Yuanran had never seen even in his original world. One could only imagine what kind of noblewoman this was.

"I don't want to be disturbed, which is why I chose this place."

“Okay, I won’t call you except for meals,” Lin Yuanran said. “However, my cooking skills are so-so. If you don’t like the food, you can eat at Andre’s Tavern, or buy bread. Go out the road in front of the gate, turn left at the first intersection, and then go through the alley.

"Hmm." Then the door was slammed shut.

"Could she be an ultimate homebody?" Lin Yuanran thought to himself, then walked away happily.

Back in his room, Lin Yuanran looked at the Complete Book of Herbs for a while, then closed the book and began to ponder.

The surname Xu is not common in the Principality of Bema, or even in the three regions of the west, south, and north of the entire continent. Their ancestors must have migrated from the east.

Ibiza is teeming with dignitaries and nobles, a fact that Lin Yuanran, living in a small town, could not possibly know, and could only guess.

The only certainty is that she is a superhuman, with the same purpose as Piero's employers. What exactly is in the Yedeen Mountains that a superhuman would covet?

Lin Yuanran couldn't deduce it, so he simply stopped thinking about it. It had nothing to do with him. What he needed to do was find out how to become a superhuman. Only then would there be any hope of returning home.

As Lin Yuanran was lost in thought, there was a knock on the door. Who could it be at this hour?

Lin Yuanran opened the door in confusion, but there was no one there. The door next to him was also open.

Feng Ling squatted down, and Lin Yuanran looked down and saw her long, golden hair, as white as autumn wheat.

She stood up, opened her palm, and there was a clay figure on it.

"Was it the one that knocked on the door?" Lin Yuanran asked knowingly.

“It’s this, my companion’s messenger. Just hand it over to me if you encounter it in the future,” Wind Chime said.

companion……

Lin Yuanran was puzzled. "You have companions, but you're staying here alone?"

"Then you won't live with them?"

"I like quiet; they're too noisy."

Lin Yuanran said, "Okay, but there's something else I need to tell you, I forgot to mention it earlier. As you can see, my house is so poor that even rats dare not come here, so we don't have a bathroom. If you need to take a shower or anything like that, it might be inconvenient..."

Fengling said, "If you don't have it here, I'll go to my companions to look for it."

Thump! The door closed again.

Lin Yuanran shook his head. She seemed to be a willful rich girl who came out to experience life, but she didn't seem very approachable. He wanted to ask about the superhumans but wouldn't give him any angle.
