Firefly Journey
Chapter 8 Outsiders (3)
In the following days, the usually deserted town suddenly became lively.
The arrival of strangers in waves and batches left the town's residents bewildered. What was going on? Had the sun and the moon switched places?
Lin Yuanran, who regularly gathers herbs, has witnessed the changes taking place in the town. The more people come, the more excited he becomes, feeling closer and closer to becoming a superhuman.
Andre's Tavern is now packed, but out-of-town travelers show no sign of stopping, continuing to pour into the town.
So here's the problem: with so many people, they'll need accommodation.
So, residents with spare rooms in their homes lent a helping hand, which solved the problem and allowed them to make a fortune.
None of these outsiders seemed to be short of money, so their arrival was definitely a good thing for the town.
The visitors never concealed the fact that they were extraordinary individuals, and frequently used their abilities, leaving the townspeople, who had little experience of the world, in awe.
In comparison, Jonathan and his two companions' act of concealing their identities seemed somewhat deliberate. They simply never imagined that the despicable con artist would deceive everyone, thus robbing them of their chance to quietly make a fortune.
Torreg is a territory of the Rhine Province, which belongs to the Duchy of Bema. With such a thing happening in their own territory, it's impossible for the Duchy's high-ranking officials not to show any concern.
A week after the arrival of the first group of superhumans, a small airship towed by a dragon eagle appeared over the town.
Winged Beasts are not something ordinary people can possess. Even some wealthy nobles can only buy tickets to travel on public transport. To be able to ride in such a small airship, the owner's status must be extraordinary.
The mayor of Torreg, a middle-aged man named Curry Ward, dressed in his administrative uniform, respectfully led the few police officers he had on board as the Dragonhawk airship arrived.
The Dragonhawk descended to a low altitude, and the doors on the side of the airship opened. At a distance of about ten meters from the ground, the passengers inside jumped out.
Upon meeting the delegation from the principality, Curry Ward solemnly stated, "I am Curry, the local mayor, and I will fully cooperate with your work."
“Relax, friend.” The young man in the lead wore a monocle, exuding a refined air. He smiled and extended his hand: “Cassius Bello, the captain temporarily conscripted by the Duchy, and also a teacher in St. Louis.”
Curry had heard of St. Louis; it was a top-tier academy of extraordinary talents located in Ibiza, directly governed by the principality, and backed by the Holy See of Light. Every year, the academy would send many outstanding talents to the Holy See.
The Church of Light, one of the seven great ancestral churches of the Pan-Ancient Continent, worships Julius, the god of light and wisdom, and is also the most influential church in the world.
The followers of the Holy See of Light are everywhere, even on the other side of the Stormy Sea.
Curry, being able to serve as a local administrator, naturally has far more experience than the villagers of a small town. Someone who can serve as an extraordinary mentor in St. Louis is definitely not an ordinary person.
The reason the Duchy sent people from the academy was probably to use this opportunity to curry favor with the Holy See of Light, while also using their power to reap the benefits.
Saint Louis belongs to the Duchy of St. Louis, but the Church of Light does not belong to the Duchy of St. Light. Why wouldn't the Duchy use others to seek its own benefit?
Curry noticed that behind Cassius were four young students—the mentor himself was not old, and those who looked young standing next to him were truly young, or rather, like newborn calves.
Cassius had no intention of introducing him to his entourage, and Curry wouldn't ask any further questions. For him, all he needed to do was to make a proper handover and provide assistance to the duchy's dispatch team that had come from afar; nothing else was something a small town mayor needed to worry about.
Curry Ward said, “Recently, a lot of outsiders have come to our town and filled up the taverns. Now they’ve even started staying in people’s homes. My house isn’t big, but it can accommodate you all. Please come to my humble abode and let me arrange your accommodations.”
"Thank you for your trouble." Cassius Bello smiled gently, as warm as the ever-present spring breeze.
Curry led the way, with Cassius and his St. Louis students following closely behind.
"Teacher, the wind chimes are gone," student Paganin suddenly said. She was a dragon-person with a pair of gorgeous wings and a petite figure. According to the growth period of dragons, she was already an adult.
The other three trainees showed no anxiety or shock, seemingly taking it all in stride.
Cassius said helplessly, "Let her be. In the duchy, no one can control her."
Another student, Hauglis, said, "Teacher, it's not good to be so lenient all the time. After all, we came out together. What if we get lost? I mean, what if? Wouldn't the Xu family and Morgan kill us?"
"Don't worry," said Faye Marley, with his long blond hair, unconcerned. "Even if we combined, we couldn't hurt a single hair on her head, so don't fret. You know how she is; she sees everyone as if they're her mortal enemies. Only Morgan is willing to put up with her."
"If you like living alone, then go ahead and do your own thing. We can always go together when the ruins open."
“The baboon has a point.” Cassius was actually an interesting young man, making jokes about his student.
Paganin chuckled: "Let's go, hairy baboon."
The robust Hauglis laughed even more unrestrainedly, his facial muscles almost unable to close. Of the entire group, only the last hooded student's face remained unchanged.
In the Bema language, the pronunciation of Five is similar to that of a baboon, and given his eccentric personality, this nickname is well-known and fitting.
The mayor's house was small, a small attic-style building, but he had everything prepared, all waiting for the people sent from above to move in.
Cassius Bello led the students to their rooms, one for each of them, and they settled in. At the same time, he couldn't completely abandon Feng Ling; she wasn't just the Xu family's daughter, but also a genius student at St. Louis—he couldn't simply ignore her.
He pulled a clump of sticky clay from his pocket, skillfully shaped it, then whispered a few words to the finished clay figure before throwing it out the window.
On the main road outside the mayor's house, the mud figure stood up unsteadily and walked in a certain direction.
In the guest room, Cassius took out a thick law book from his bag and began to study it carefully.
Lin Yuanran finished picking herbs for the day and walked home as the sun set.
From a distance, a figure could be seen sitting at the doorway, seemingly waiting for him.
That's not Wendy; Lin Yuanran's eyes are still fine.
As he approached, Lin Yuanran looked at the beautiful, unfamiliar face and asked, "Were you waiting for me?"
"No." The woman spoke without moving her eyelashes or showing any expression.
"That is?"
"I'm waiting for the owner of the house."
"But that's who I am."
"Oh? Then I've been waiting for you."
