Firefly Journey

Chapter 59 Farewell (5)

After saying goodbye to the townspeople, Lin Yuanran returned home under the cover of night, carrying a plump fish with him.

This was a gift from Gawain Johnson after he learned that Ario was about to leave, and he didn't spend a penny on it.

The 1 gold coin rent that Wind Chime paid was only a small fraction of the amount spent in less than a month.

While preparing the meal, Lin Yuanran glanced at the room with the wind chimes and, finding the door closed, went to get busy. She hadn't slept during the day and probably wouldn't wake up for a while, so as she wished, she went to call her when she was done.

Lin Yuanran meticulously prepared the dish, scoring it with decorative cuts and adding seasonings, as this was likely to be Torreg's last dinner.

Lin Yuanran took out a jar of pickled vegetables from the cupboard and poured them out in a lavish manner, feeling a sense of self-mockery. He used to be reluctant to eat them, but now he almost can't finish them all.

The fish stew was ready, the kimchi was served, and with the soft bread, the whole meal looked quite appealing.

Lin Yuanran wiped non-existent sweat from his forehead and was about to knock on the door next door when Feng Ling came in by herself.

"Huh? You're awake?"

"I didn't sleep at all."

"Huh?" Lin Yuanran looked surprised and thought to himself, "Are you made of iron? You can go for days and nights without sleeping. You must be a monster."

Fengling ignored him, sat down on her own, took a deep breath of the aroma filling the table, and looked pleased.

In fact, she came by following the scent.

Lin Yuanran sat down opposite her and picked up a piece of soft bread: "What time are you leaving tomorrow?"

Fengling picked up a piece of stewed fish with her chopsticks: "That's what Cassius said first thing this morning."

"How long would it take to get back to Yicheng by airship?"

Ibiza is the abbreviation for the capital of the principality, and many people like to call it that.

Wind Chime swallowed the chewed fish chunk: "This afternoon, provided that Baboon and Cassius help. You know, they both have the ability of 'Wind Mage'."

Lin Yuanran thought to himself, "I really didn't know that Cassius had the Wind Mage class, but he couldn't possibly voice his thoughts, or he would seem like a clueless fool."

"And you? How do you plan to earn your tuition fees?"

Lin Yuanran said with a slightly relaxed tone, "I just went to see Piero, and he promised to take me with him when he leaves Torreg."

"Oh."

In Fengling's view, Piero was just a traveling merchant whose entire fortune might not even amount to a single crystal coin. Letting him take him along would make Ario's future look bleak.

Neither of them spoke after that, quietly enjoying their food. Once they were full, Fengling got up and, just before leaving the room, said:

"Cassius can guide you through the basics and help you solve problems, so don't push yourself too hard."

Lin Yuanran stood there for a while, and after a long time, he muttered to himself, "I can't rely on others for everything. In the end, I have to rely on myself to get home..."

……

……

Under the cover of night, Jonathan the werewolf, accompanied by Robert and his sister, knocked on the door of a resident's house.

At this hour, most of the townspeople in Torreg were asleep, but the door slowly opened from the inside, revealing a haggard face.

Mrs. Sandra, wearing a roughly made and ill-fitting coat, asked with a puzzled look when she saw three strangers, "Is there something you need?"

“I’m looking for your son,” Jonathan said bluntly.

"He...didn't do anything wrong, did he?"

Durant Pippen was very mischievous and had a bad temper. As his mother, Sandra's first reaction was that something bad had happened, and she thought that Durant Pippen had gotten into trouble, so she looked a little uneasy.

Noticing her unease, Jonathan put on what he considered a kind and approachable expression: "Don't be nervous, madam. We are the extraordinary beings from the Ancient Battle Arena. You may not have heard of us, but that's not important."

The important thing is, you don't want Dupipon to spend his whole life in town, living a mundane and predictable life, do you?

"The boy's tenacity at the tavern was a good fit for the Fighting Arena's style; I want to bring him back to Radiant City."

Sandra was stunned. This was like a windfall, so wonderful that it took her a while to react before inviting the three guests into her home.

Du Pippen wasn't a deep sleeper, and he immediately got up when he heard the noise. He then saw the werewolf uncle who had helped him at the tavern that day appear at his house with two young men.

Dupipon, who is usually outgoing, seemed uneasy at this moment. He sat down next to his mother without saying a word.

Jonathan sat opposite him, raising an eyebrow slightly.

"You know Ario and Wendy, right?"

“Of course, they are my friends.” Dupippen’s tone held a hint of anticipation as he thought of a certain possibility.

"Wendy is going to Chestanton, a place known as the City of Progress, which belongs to the Church of the 'Mechanical Wings'. In the future, she will not be from the same world as you."

The best way to win someone over is to understand their preferences and tailor your approach accordingly. After some initial research, Jonathan learned that the boys in the town all seemed to like that elfin girl.

“Alio has caught the eye of St. Louis, which is affiliated with the Church of Light, and as far as I know, Wendy is very close to him.”

Jonathan is making up a story.

The protagonist of the story is Du Pippen, the female lead is Wendy, and the poor Lin Yuanran becomes the villain, the one who is to be defeated.

Fortunately, DuPippen's thoughts didn't follow Jonathan's lead; he now clearly understood what he was thinking.

Liking Wendy is just following the trend, because he often admires and likes the things that Olek likes.

Ultimately, Ario had done him no wrong whatsoever, so naturally he couldn't be an enemy, not even a hypothetical one.

"You've come to visit in the middle of the night, are you here to chat with me?"

DuPippen knew Jonathan's intentions, but he didn't need them at all. What he needed was the same "ticket" as Ario, Wendy, and the others.

Only in this way can we find the murderer who killed my father.

Cassius didn't tell the mother and son the details of the mayor's sudden death. Dupipon knew that this matter was not simple, and he was far from being able to reach that level.

Only by embarking on the path of the extraordinary can one take revenge.

Cassius told him that the murderer of Durant and Pippen was Curry Ward, but didn't say why. Therefore, Durant and Pippen felt that there must be some unknown reason behind it.

The reasons behind this are something he will have to discover for himself once he has the power.

Cassius didn't reveal much, but his motivation was to protect him. For an ordinary person to get involved with the evil god's church is simply suicide.

He just didn't expect Du Pippen to be so determined, so persistent, even knowing it was a death sentence, he still went ahead and did it without hesitation.

“It seems you’ve come to your senses.” Jonathan said with satisfaction, extending his hairy arm.

"Welcome to Windward Academy. Unlike St. Louis, our tuition is completely free."

While promoting his company's superior conditions, Jonathan also took the opportunity to put down his competitors. Saving lives is one thing, but competitors are enemies, and professional ethics cannot be abandoned.

Durant and Pippen reached out and grasped it, as if they were clutching at their last straw.

Mrs. Sandra wiped her face, her expression a mix of happiness and sadness, her brown eyes glistening in the dim light.

Robert and his sister exchanged a glance, both smiling, as if welcoming their new classmate.
