Firefly Journey
Chapter 58 Farewell (4)
A girl dressed in a plain white dress walked heavily from the twilight, and then immediately saw the wind chimes sitting on the tree roots.
A gentle breeze blew by, causing the bells at her waist to jingle softly. She looked up at the sky, lost in thought.
Wendy Jupes stopped and looked at the blonde girl, whose thoughts seemed to have wandered off somewhere, and asked, "Is Ario home?"
The strangers had all returned, and Lumer told her they would depart the next day. As dusk fell, the tavern was packed, but she knew that the more crowded it was, the less likely Ario would go.
"exist."
The wind chime sat on the tree root all day and was quite certain that Ario hadn't come out.
"When are you going back?" she asked again.
"tomorrow."
"Oh, I need your help with something, and I hope you can agree."
Why do you think I would agree?
You seem like a very nice person...
In Torreg, nobody pays 1 gold coin for rent upfront; it means you're a good person.
Feng Ling looked at her: "She just happened to be out of change, and you call that being a good person?"
"Huh?" Wendy was stunned. Could what she said be true?
"Anyway, I have to thank you. I'm so glad that Ario can go to St. Louis to study magic, so I hope you can take good care of him there. He doesn't have many friends, and you're probably one of them."
Wendy's words implicitly acknowledged that Ario had joined St. Louis, without giving any thought to the 1 crystal coin limitation.
Just kidding, how could he possibly not get a ticket!
“I consider all of Cassius’s students as friends,” Fengling said calmly. She knew exactly what kind of person Cassius Bello was; being recognized by him was enough to prove his ability and character.
Hearing the noise outside, Lin Yuanran pushed open the door and came out. He saw the wind chimes on the tree roots and looked a little haggard. He wondered if he hadn't slept at all.
When the two returned home, Fengling did not go back inside, but sat silently under the tree.
"Are you alright?" Lin Yuanran asked. You don't need to go into details when talking to Fengling; she will give you the precise answer.
"No, I was just thinking about something."
After hearing the reply, Lin Yuanran turned to Wendy and said, "You've come to say goodbye, haven't you?"
Wendy nodded: "I'm going to Chernobyl with my teacher and the others tomorrow, so I'm in a bit of a rush and came to see you."
"That's good." Lin Yuanran gave him an encouraging look. "Besides me... what about Little Sudan and the others? Have you gone to see them?"
"not yet."
"Let's go together."
"what?"
Lin Yuanran explained, "It won't be long before I leave the town to look for opportunities to make money outside. Those crystal coins are really hard to earn."
"What are your plans? Do you have any ideas?"
"Go find Piero. He's a traveling merchant with good connections; he might have a way."
"That's good, you'll definitely be able to get into St. Louis smoothly."
Lin Yuanran smiled and said, "Thank you for your kind words. Let's go say goodbye to Sudan and Olek."
The original owner had some acquaintances in the town who were about to leave and were unlikely to return, so it was necessary to say a proper goodbye.
The two had only taken a few steps when Fengling stood up, covered her mouth with her hand, and yawned: "Remember to cook when you get back, and call me when it's ready."
Lin Yuanran smiled slightly: "No problem."
……
……
A breeze was blowing along the Lodz River.
"You came."
Piero, facing the river, never turned around. His gaze remained fixed on the water's surface, and he held a glass in his hand, taking sips every now and then.
Cassius Bello walked to a position level with him and also stared at the river.
"What on earth do you want to do?"
"Being talkative is not a good habit."
“A transaction is based on the premise that both parties feel it is fair, but your presence here makes me uneasy, and I am not sure if the transaction can continue.”
"It has failed."
Piero took a sip of blueberry wine and spoke casually, as if he didn't care at all.
“I turned that child into a superhuman. I didn’t fail. That’s your problem.”
"Yes, the Vatican and the Duchy refused to grant you the parliamentary seat I originally promised. I had no choice but to offer you alternative compensation."
Cassius's face instantly fell, and he sighed softly. He knew it would be like this. No matter how powerful a mysterious "Awakener" was, it was still too much of a stretch to influence the policies of a major power.
"What compensation?"
Cassius knew when to stop, because he couldn't throw a tantrum like a child. Rather than getting hung up on an impossible promise, he'd rather exchange it for an equal benefit.
"Last night, the mountains were bright as day for a moment, and I think that must have been the effect of the 'primordial light'."
Miracles are so rare, surely no one would complain about having too many?
Cassius's pupils contracted immediately, then dilated.
"How about I give you a miracle from the Grim Reaper, and we're even?"
Cassius thought about it seriously for a minute, then said, "It's not quite what I wanted, but it's acceptable."
"That's good. I don't want to be seen as a shrewd businessman."
Piero pulled out a scroll and tossed it into the air. Cassius caught it steadily, immediately opened it, glanced at it, and only put it away after confirming that it was not fake.
"How long have you been possessing this body?" Cassius asked.
"Not long, maybe two or three months."
Cassius's gaze sharpened: "Bringing someone into the extraordinary world is a very simple matter. Why did you come to me?"
Piero swirled his wine glass and said, "Opportunity is very important. You are a teacher, so if you appear at the right time, it won't seem abrupt at all. If everything goes smoothly, he won't suspect anything."
"Is that child important to you?"
"Yes, he is very important to us, and to everyone."
"Us?" Cassius caught the key to his words.
"who are you?"
“We are none of anyone, and I don’t want to say more,” Piero said. “The deal doesn’t include explaining our origins.”
"Well, I was presumptuous. He will be studying in St. Louis in the future. He has good talent, and I believe he will have a good outcome."
"Do all your teachers like to help people to the end?" Piero said helplessly. "It seems that all I asked you to do was make him a superhuman, nothing more."
“I am responsible for every student,” he said.
Cassius Bello was extremely ethical in his teaching, treating everyone equally. Although Ario's enlightenment was accidental, once he was brought under his wing, he had to fulfill his responsibilities as a teacher.
"So you just dumped this chore on me? You really know how to pick people. What kind of ridiculous rules does your college have? I'll smash them up another day!"
"Whatever. If you can take on the entire Vatican single-handedly, that's not out of the question." Cassius smiled slyly. "I believe you'll earn enough for his tuition with him. If not, you can pay for it yourself. Anyway, you've made a lot of money selling information, so what's a little more?"
"Heh." The conman, who had temporarily possessed the body of the traveling merchant, sneered. "I understand. I'll teach him a lesson when he gets to St. Louis."
"This is natural."
The moon casts its shadows, and the water ripples gently.
……
The wind chime touched the bell and then tossed something from its palm back into Venus.
Forget it, he won't accept it.
……
