Firefly Journey

Chapter 31 Wind Chimes and Paninger

The mayor's house.

dong dong!

The glass on the second floor made a crisp, clanging sound.

Cassius looked up and saw the dragon girl Paninger outside the window, her alluring wings flapping back and forth.

Cassius shook his head: "You can simply use the door."

"I was taking a walk when I happened to see the baboons, so I came over to report the situation."

"Go ahead and tell me, but I think they're all trivial matters that don't really matter."

"Teacher, you knew all along that they wouldn't be able to find anything, didn't you?"

"Of course, it's just to give them something to do, so they don't have to worry about it all the time."

“That’s a wise decision,” Paninger exclaimed. “And… is Allen included too?”

"He's different. Murders without a reason are rare. I suspect the victim must have had something the killer wanted, or he had something on the killer."

The investigation into the deceased's background yielded nothing. Old Du Pippen was definitely not an ordinary townsman, or rather, he used to be, but something happened that changed him.

"That's such a tongue twister!"

"That's not your concern. When we enter the ancient god's ruins tomorrow, take good care of Ario. After all, he's a newbie. I'll give instructions to the baboons and the others."

Paninger pouted, "Fine, I won't let him die in there."

"As long as the person in the shadows doesn't make a move, there's no question of life or death. I still have books to read, so you can leave now if there's nothing else."

"I...I haven't reported yet!" Paninger realized that he hadn't achieved his purpose.

"No need."

"why is it like this……"

Paninger flapped its wings sullenly and muttered in the air, mostly bad things about Cassius, such as how a page of his book would be gnawed off by mice.

As they flew, Paninger arrived at Wind Chime's temporary "hotel".

Lin Yuanran hadn't gone herb gathering for a while; he was currently busy practicing magic and didn't have time. Besides, thanks to Feng Ling's generosity, he had a reason not to go to work.

Of course, if the target is changed to crystal coins, he is still suspected of slacking off.

"Wind chimes!" Paninger shouted from afar.

The girl with flowing blonde hair pushed open the door, looked up at the sky, and glanced at it with a hint of disdain. "That annoying guy is here again."

"Have you rested enough?" Wind Chime asked.

“It’s been ready for a while,” Paninger said. “Tomorrow is the day we enter the Divine Ruins. Are you ready?”

"What's there to prepare for?" Wind Chime said. Could one really improve their combat power by cramming at the last minute and practicing the divine oracle a few more times?

"Wind Chime, I have to criticize you for this," Paninger said in a condescending tone. "Look at how hard others work!"

Paninger was referring to Lin Yuanran, who was practicing the Oracle spell not far away. With Feng Ling's guidance, he could now skillfully cast the Fireball spell. He was also becoming increasingly proficient in the more difficult Great Flame Dragon spell, and it was believed that he would master it completely soon.

"The early bird catches the worm," said Wind Chime. "If you don't have enough talent, you can make up for it with hard work. You should understand this feeling."

"You're subtly criticizing me again!" As a student who consistently ranks at the bottom of the class, Paninger's situation has nothing to do with talent. Her ancestors were ancient dragons, and even though millions of years had passed and the bloodline had become diluted, they were still not something humans could easily imitate.

Despite her talent, she ranked last, which brings us to the girl's personality. As a rare dragon-human, she didn't think about how to revitalize her race, but instead focused on indulging in frivolous pursuits.

He was proficient in all sorts of vices, but had little interest in magic.

Despite ranking near the bottom, she still managed to gain Cassius's favor largely because of her bloodline; descendants of the Time Dragon are rare. All time magic would be much easier for her to learn, but unfortunately, she lacked the motivation to improve.

"You, come here!" Paninger shouted at Lin Yuanran.

Lin Yuanran was attracted by the commotion. He looked around and, finding no one else, went over after confirming that someone was calling him.

"Is there something you need, Paninger?"

"How far have you progressed in your training?"

Lin Yuanran scratched his head. "Beginner level, that's what Fengling said."

Paninger raised an eyebrow: "That's good. Fengling never speaks definitively. According to her logic, well, she's afraid you'll get arrogant."

Lin Yuanran said, "I'd rather be proud for a moment than be constantly criticized by her..."

Pa Ningge, resting his chin on his hand, said, "If you have good talent... hey, how about you consider becoming my underling?"

Lin Yuanran looked at her blankly. "Big sister, is it really okay for you, a student from a well-known academy in the principality, to act like a delinquent?"

"Be my little brother, and you won't suffer any losses or be taken advantage of. I'll protect you at school, and I guarantee you won't be bullied."

Lin Yuanran chuckled and said, "I'd like to too, but unfortunately I'm not a student at St. Louis yet."

"Oh right." Paninger also remembered this, and patted Lin Yuanran's shoulder hard. "It's okay, I believe in your abilities!"

Lin Yuanran thought to himself, "You're really talking without any sense of the situation. You're the one who's paying the tuition?"

"If you trust me, invest in me. I have a lot of potential."

Paninger said, "If you can't afford it, you'll have to ask Fengling for help."

Lin Yuanran said, "They won't take me as their underling."

Wind Chime said at the right moment, "Paninger, you always say that the baboons are noisy, but in my opinion, you are no less noisy than them."

Paninger stuck out her tongue and made a ghostly face: "Mind your own business!"

Lin Yuanran then said, "If there's nothing else, I'll go back to practice."

Tomorrow I'll go "down to the tomb" with everyone. I'll cram at the last minute and try to improve as much as I can.

"No way!" Paninger interrupted him. "I'm serious. Do you know who my boss is? It'll scare you to death if I tell you. Anyway, if you follow me, no one in all of St. Louis will dare to bully you."

Lin Yuanran, still worried about the admission tickets, didn't have time to banter with Paninger. Just as she was about to leave, she spoke again: "You should know about the Demos family, right?"

"do not know."

“Then you are truly ignorant!” Paninger adopted a teacher’s tone and began to explain: “The Demos family is an old noble family in the duchy, with great influence in both the military and politics. Their future head of the family also studied in St. Louis. Do you understand?!”

"I still don't understand." What causal relationship does this have with me acknowledging you as my boss?

"My boss is their future head of the family, Morgan Demos! How about it, want to consider it?"

Nobles... There isn't even a lowest-ranking viscount in Torreg. Lin Yuanran didn't know much about this, but after hearing what Paning said, it seemed really powerful. After all, someone who could influence the policies of a country couldn't possibly be anything less than a big shot.

“I will consider it, provided I can become a student at St. Louis,” Lin Yuanran said.

In the world of the dragon girl, perhaps consideration was equivalent to agreement. She immediately perked up and glanced at the wind chimes, saying, "Actually, your tenant has quite a background. She's the eldest daughter of the Xu family and has been engaged to Morgan since childhood. If you cultivate a good relationship with her, you'll become one of the two most powerful figures in the future duchy..."

Hearing this, Lin Yuanran was stunned for a moment. An arranged marriage? That's rather pitiful.

Yes, it's pitiful. In his original world, he had heard far too many stories of arranged marriages since childhood. Most of those historical dregs were unreasonable and extremely unfair to both parties.

"Are you done talking?" Feng Ling's voice was cold and clear.

Paninger quickly shut up. Xu Penglong, with his full aura, was particularly terrifying; she had witnessed it at the academy.

That was when she first entered the academy. Fengling was very low-key. Some senior students who didn't know her identity came to chat with her. Among them, those who spoke rudely were beaten and slightly injured on the spot. If it weren't for the fact that she was in the academy, this matter probably wouldn't have been so easy.

"We'll have stewed mutton for dinner." After instructing Lin Yuanran, she looked at Paninger and said, "If you really don't want to go back early, you can have dinner together."

Paninger released his hand from his mouth: "I knew you wouldn't get angry easily."

Fengling returned to her room expressionlessly, leaving the door open, and Paninger followed her in.
