The Otherworldly Journey of a Quick Transmigrator
Chapter 12 Ancient Fantasy 8
When they went up the mountain, Su Yuanyuan was surrounded by her father and a group of uncles, which made her feel extremely safe.
The path they were on was unusually difficult to traverse because it was usually deserted.
At first, Su Yuanyuan was in the mood to look at the scenery around her, but after a while, her feet started to hurt.
She was wearing embroidered shoes, but even though her shoes were made thick, they couldn't keep out too many stones.
After walking for a while, her feet couldn't take it anymore.
Su Yuanyuan didn't say anything and silently followed them. She had asked to come, and it would seem pretentious to delay them any further.
After walking for a while, Su Jiye and Xu Wende broke away from the group and walked quickly forward for a while.
They looked at several tree roots and leaves along the road and signaled to stop.
"Let's rest here for a bit. We can already see signs of animal activity. We'll continue once we've recovered our strength."
Xu Wende leaned against a tree, his eyes constantly scanning his surroundings.
"Yuanyuan, sit down and rest for a while. Remember to stay close to your Uncle Wenli later."
Su Jiye walked over to his daughter, took down the bamboo tube, and handed it to her, indicating that she should drink some water.
Su Yuanyuan sat down with a sigh of relief, took a sip of water, and secretly rubbed her feet when no one was looking.
She regrets it now and will never come again. She's a modern-day lazy bum and can't handle this kind of hardship at all.
Before Su Yuanyuan could catch her breath, they all got up and prepared to leave, so Su Yuanyuan had no choice but to follow.
She hadn't walked far when Su Yuanyuan heard a sound coming from the bushes next to her, which startled her and made her stop in her tracks.
"Yuanyuan, don't move."
Su Jiye turned around, gently comforting her, and with one hand drew back the bow and aimed at the direction from which the sound came.
An arrow shot out quickly. Su Jiye stepped forward, parted the grass, and pulled out a pheasant. The pheasant was riddled with arrows and was already dead.
"Not bad, we caught a pheasant as soon as we came in." Su Jiye said, tying the pheasant to his waist, walking over to Su Yuanyuan and gently patting her back.
"What? Are you scared?"
Su Yuanyuan shook her head. She was indeed a little startled when she first heard the noise, but after she came to her senses, she realized it was nothing.
After that, they didn't encounter any animals. Xu Wende looked at the sky and knew they couldn't go any further that day.
He called to the others to find a place to rest. The old hunters used to live in the mountains and had set up a temporary shelter here.
Now that Su Yuanyuan was following behind her father, there was no need to rush anymore, so she picked some wild vegetables.
"Yuanyuan, be careful. There's a stream near the cabin. Dad will grill fish for you tonight."
As Su Jiye walked, he took care of Su Yuanyuan. When he saw that she had picked enough, he quickly stopped her, saying that her little bamboo basket was too big and would tire her out.
"Dad, do you usually eat grilled fish when you go up the mountain?"
Su Yuanyuan obediently stopped picking wild vegetables and asked her father curiously.
The main problem was that her father always looked like he hadn't eaten for more than ten days after returning from hunting, and she thought that all they could eat on the mountain was flatbread.
"No, that's too much trouble. We'll just have some flatbread. We were just worried you wouldn't like it."
Su Jiye replied to her nonchalantly, saying that they were a bunch of roughnecks, and if they weren't afraid of getting sick, they wouldn't even bother to light a fire at night.
That is, he brought his daughter along this time, so he couldn't let her eat pancakes too.
Su Yuanyuan smiled and said, "Dad, I'll cook you some meat soup and grill some fish tonight so we can all eat together. It'll keep you warm."
"Okay, I'll do whatever you want."
Su Jiye had no choice but to agree. He was happy that his daughter cared about him, but it was a group of people who benefited from the situation.
Just then, someone was waving ahead, and the group of people all gathered over and saw a wooden house behind a few trees.
The cabin is divided into two rooms. The outer room is larger and has a large wooden bed, like a dormitory, which can easily sleep four or five people.
There was a simple wooden table in the middle, but no stools, so you had to sit on the bed to eat.
In the corner was a makeshift stove, with some wooden planks piled up next to it, which looked like the remnants of a stool.
The inner room was much smaller, barely big enough to fit a small bed. There wasn't even a door; a curtain was simply hung at the doorway.
The furniture was covered in a thick layer of dust, indicating that no one had lived there for a long time.
A group of people put down their things and started tidying up the house. The small bed inside was definitely for Su Yuanyuan to sleep in. She looked around but couldn't find any basins or anything like that.
She had no choice but to take the rag and ask her father, "Dad, where is the stream you mentioned? I'll go wash the rag."
Su Jiye was cleaning spider webs with a wooden stick when he heard her words, so he put the stick down.
"Come on, I'll take you there, and we'll catch some fish while we're at it." He made sure to take the machete with him when he left.
Su Yuanyuan grabbed a rag and jogged after him. After walking about twenty meters around the wooden house, she saw a clear stream.
The stream was crystal clear, and the little fish swimming in it could be seen very clearly.
"You wash here, I'll move up a little, the water's shallower over there and the fish are easier to catch."
Su Jiye told her not to wander off and to wait for him after she finished washing up. Su Yuanyuan obediently nodded in agreement.
Washing a rag doesn't take much time, and Su Yuanyuan idly observed her surroundings.
The stream is surrounded by lush, waist-high grass, and further on, there are shrubs and birch trees.
Since it's already autumn, the leaves on the trees have almost all fallen, leaving them bare.
Suddenly, a fish leaped out of the water, and the sound of it hitting the water drew Su Yuanyuan's attention back.
Watching the small fish swimming by from time to time, she suddenly had the urge to catch one and try it herself.
Su Yuanyuan looked around and found a slightly pointed, thick branch.
She didn't dare go into the water; she had already tried it, and the water was too cold. She didn't want to get her shoes wet for the time being.
Standing by the stream, Su Yuanyuan stared intently at the fish inside, waiting for the right moment to plunge in.
Seeing the little fish nimbly dodge, Su Yuanyuan didn't try to catch it again, waiting for it to swim away before moving on to the next one.
After several attempts, she couldn't get a single one. Su Yuanyuan angrily rolled up her sleeves, determined to catch one today.
Later, Su Yuanyuan lost her composure and started frantically sticking tree branches into things.
Believe it or not, they actually managed to squeeze in a spot.
"Ha! Got it, didn't I? I'm really good."
Su Yuanyuan looked at the little fish on the tree branch, put one hand on her hip, and proudly praised herself.
"Yuanyuan, let's go back."
Just as she was indulging in her own self-praise, Su Jiye's voice came through the phone.
Su Yuanyuan turned her head and saw that her father was holding hemp ropes in both hands, with fish of all sizes hanging on them.
She didn't feel discouraged at all; instead, she excitedly held up the branch and ran over to show it off to her father.
"Dad, look, the fish I caught."
"Wow! That's quite a big one! No wonder she's my daughter; she caught such a big fish on her first try. That's amazing!"
Seeing her excited expression, Su Jiye praised her enthusiastically, making Su Yuanyuan feel embarrassed, and she took the initiative to interrupt her father's praise.
"Dad, you're amazing! You caught so many in such a short time."
