The Young Swordsman of Dalu
Chapter 7 Young Master Zhao, Here I Come
That night, when all was quiet, around midnight, Wenjie dressed in his night clothes in his room, picked up his sword, and prepared to go to the Minister's residence.
"Second brother, you look so handsome in this outfit!" Wenfei said enviously.
"Stop flattering me, I'm leaving now. Wait for my message, and I'll be back in an hour if nothing unexpected happens." After saying that, Wenjie opened the door and went out. He lightly leaped onto the roof and flew away, scaling walls and rooftops.
"That's so cool! I want to learn light-body skills and martial arts too!" Wenfei's mouth was practically watering.
The Minister's residence is four streets away from the Prince Wen's residence in the East City. It's quite far from the viewpoint, but according to Wenjie's route, it should take less than half an hour to get there.
Wenjie quickly arrived at the Minister's residence. He rose from the back courtyard and leaped inside, using his light-footed skill to reach the tallest building within. He surveyed his surroundings carefully, then leaped to a brightly lit courtyard. He lifted a tile and peered down; the room was filled with smoke and fumes. Wenjie immediately saw Zhao Meng gesticulating wildly and talking confidently in front of the crowd, clearly not a fool. Looking at the group with him, he recognized them as the same spoiled young masters who usually hung out with him.
"You Zhao Meng, you pretend to be crazy during the day and hang out with your cronies at night. I'm not going to let you get away with this!" Wen Jie was about to go downstairs to deal with Zhao Meng when he suddenly remembered what Wen Fei had told him. He couldn't act rashly, or he wouldn't be able to explain himself no matter what. The most important thing now was to hurry back to the palace and tell Wen Fei.
Wenjie leaped out of the Minister's residence and returned to the Prince's residence in less than an hour.
Wenfei was half asleep on the table in Wenjie's room when he was woken up by someone tapping him. When he opened his eyes, he saw that Wenjie had returned.
"Second Brother, you're back! How did it go? Did you find anything on your trip?" Wenfei asked anxiously.
"Wenfei, you're amazing! Let me tell you, Zhao Meng is just pretending to be stupid. He's hanging out with his cronies right now. It's infuriating! I was going to go in and teach him a lesson, but you told me not to. So I had to let that bastard get away with it." Wenjie said through gritted teeth.
"Thank you so much, Second Brother. You've worked so hard. Just bear with it. Second Brother, get some rest. I'm going to sleep too." Wen Fei got up and left.
"You still haven't told me how to deal with that bastard? Do you need my help?" Wenjie shouted at Wenfei as he left.
"Second Brother, just wait and watch the show." Wen Fei waved and walked away.
The next morning, after breakfast and getting ready, Wenfei went to pay his respects to the old princess.
"My dear grandson, let me take a good look at you. Are you fully recovered? Does your head still hurt?" The old princess said, stroking Wenfei's head with affection.
"Please rest assured, Ancestor, thanks to your blessing, your grandson has fully recovered," Wenfei said coquettishly.
"My dear grandson has become much more sensible; he even knows how to comfort this old woman now," the old princess said with satisfaction.
"It's all thanks to the good teachings of our ancestors," Wenfei said with a smile.
"What a sweet talker!" the old princess said happily. "Child, go and pay your respects to your father and mother, and make them have a good impression of you. Your grandmother is getting old and can't protect you forever," the old princess said sadly.
“I heard my dad’s in a bad mood lately, so I’m not going to go and risk getting rejected. I’ll go when he’s in a better mood,” Wenfei said.
"You child, you avoid your father as much as possible, there's just no way to deal with you," the old princess said helplessly.
"Grandfather, I have something to attend to, so I'll be leaving now. I'll pay my respects to you when I get back," Wenfei said.
"Go ahead, but don't do anything foolish again, or your father will kick you out of the palace again," the old princess said with concern.
"Don't worry, Grandfather, I will do meaningful things and not bad things." After saying that, he left.
Wenfei, along with Changsheng and a few servants, took a carriage to the Minister's residence. There were many pedestrians on the street, and a few carriages passed by intermittently. It still took some time to get to the Minister's residence.
Upon arriving at the main gate of the Minister's residence, the two red-lacquered gates were tightly shut, flanked by two large lions, exuding an air of majesty, as if the master of the mansion were equally confident. Wen Fei felt this was a tremendous irony; the son of a Minister of Revenue was committing all sorts of evil deeds, and who knew how many crimes were hidden within this vast courtyard.
Today, Wenfei, a time traveler, has arrived. He is going to do in this time and space what he wanted to do but dared not do in another time and space.
Changsheng knocked on the door, and a head peeked out from under the door.
"Which one?"
“The fourth son of Prince Wen’s mansion has come to visit,” Changsheng replied.
"Young Master Wen, he's recovered!" the man asked in surprise.
"Shouldn't I be alright?" Wen Fei said, jumping down from the carriage and walking towards the gate.
"Hey! It really is the Fourth Young Master. I was blind and didn't see him clearly," said the person through the crack in the door.
"What? Is this how your Minister's residence receives visitors?" Wen Fei asked disdainfully.
"I apologize for my rudeness. I will report to the Minister immediately." The man said, pulling his head back and closing the door with a creak.
"What kind of mansion is this? They have no manners at all," Wen Fei said disdainfully.
The man returned quickly, opened the door,
"Please come in, Young Master Wen. Our master invites you in."
Wen Fei and his entourage swaggered into the Minister's residence, where Minister Zhao was waiting to greet them at the entrance.
"Fourth Young Master Wen, I haven't even had a chance to visit you yet, and you're already well. It's all because I've been so busy with other matters that I've delayed this. Please forgive me, Fourth Young Master," Minister Zhao said tactfully.
"What a cunning old fox! You'd be better off not watching me!" Wenfei thought to himself.
“Minister Zhao, I’ve come for no other reason than to hear that Brother Zhao Meng has become mentally impaired after being frightened since I woke up. I feel really bad about it, so I came to the Minister’s residence to see Brother Zhao Meng, firstly to comfort him, and secondly because I recently injured my head, and the old imperial physician Liang and Miss Liang gave me acupuncture. I learned a lot from it and realized that Brother Zhao Meng’s mental impairment, like mine, is a problem with his brain. So today, I want to try out the skills I just learned on Brother Zhao Meng,” Wen Fei said.
"Fourth Young Master, I am already deeply grateful for your visit to my son. As for giving me acupuncture, please refrain from doing so. I will request permission one day to have Imperial Physician Liang examine him personally," Minister Zhao hurriedly said.
"Has the Minister never had a doctor examine your son? Is he not mentally challenged?" Wenfei asked.
"I've seen it, I've seen it, I've been looking at it the whole time." Minister Zhao was sweating profusely with anxiety.
"I am very eager to visit Brother Zhao Meng. I humbly request that Your Excellency grant my wish." Wen Fei pressed on relentlessly.
"My son is dull and dazed all day long. If you're not careful, he'll even hit people. He's not easy to get close to. I've already locked him up," Minister Zhao explained.
"Your Excellency, please allow me to visit Brother Zhao Meng! Otherwise, my head will start to ache again. Ever since I woke up and learned that Brother Zhao Meng had become mentally impaired, I have been filled with regret. You know, it's just a courtesan, why fight over her? Why snatch her away? In the end, this is the result. I feel so sorry for Brother Zhao Meng." Wen Fei said, deliberately pretending to have tears in his eyes.
"Very well, I'll have someone take you to his courtyard, but you must not get too close!" Minister Zhao said.
"I know, Young Master Zhao, I'm here!" Wen Fei said excitedly.
Seeing Wen Fei's condition, Minister Zhao remained standing there, somewhat bewildered: "Could it be that this kid really broke his head?"
