The Young Swordsman of Dalu

Chapter 6: What Happened to Young Master Zhao?

When the night was quiet, Wenfei would think about how to leave this time and return to his grandmother's courtyard. He felt a little guilty; his grandmother had just been laid to rest, and he had already traveled to another time and space, without even having observed the mourning period for her.

Now, the most crucial problem is that Wenfei doesn't know how he traveled here. He thought and thought but couldn't come up with a clue. Just when he thought of something, his head started throbbing with pain.

A modern man travels back to an unknown dynasty, surrounded by a group of strangers. Wenfei feels incredibly lonely, a loneliness that seems unsolvable.

"What should we do? Grandma, if you are watching from heaven, please give your grandson some guidance." Wenfei prayed to his grandmother while chanting Amitabha.

The silent night swallowed everything, and Wenfei felt an unprecedented sense of powerlessness. He didn't know which way to go from here.

After a period of recuperation and drinking the medicine prescribed by Physician Liang, Wen Fei had almost recovered. However, he still didn't understand much about this time and space. After careful consideration, he felt that he couldn't just sit and wait for his death. He had to take the initiative. At the very least, before he left this time and space, he had to learn about the people and things around him, as well as everything in this generation.

The first thing Wenfei asked Changsheng when he got up in the morning was, "Changsheng, how is Young Master Zhao?"

"Fourth Master, why did you suddenly ask him?" Changsheng asked.

"Didn't you say we fought over a courtesan and I fell from a building? What about him? Is he alright?" Wenfei asked curiously.

"After he saw you fall from the building, he was so frightened that he had his father, the Minister, lock him up," Changsheng said.

"I'm terrified, is it true?" Wenfei wondered.

“Everyone present at the time saw it, and I saw it with my own eyes,” Changsheng said with certainty.

"How did the government handle our matter afterward?" Wenfei asked.

"The Prince was furious at the time and was about to hand Young Master Zhao over to the authorities. However, Minister Zhao personally came to apologize and even knelt before the Prince. Besides, his son had gone mad, so the Prince didn't pursue the matter. But I really felt indignant for Fourth Master," Changsheng said indignantly.

"They're not going to pursue it anymore. My prince father is really generous. His son almost died from the fall, and he's not going to pursue it. That's really something." Wenfei felt a little indignant on behalf of the original owner.

"The Prince doesn't really like Fourth Prince anyway. He's usually driven to the brink of rage by you, Fourth Prince. It's no wonder he'd never stand up for you," Changsheng said with dissatisfaction.

"You brat, how dare you speak ill of your father in front of your son? What kind of behavior is that? You're trying to sow discord, do you know that? The consequences of this will be severe!" Wenfei said, deliberately trying to sound angry.

"I feel sorry for Fourth Master. The other three masters in the family have all received the Prince's teachings, but the Prince just can't seem to like you, Fourth Master," Changsheng said sadly.

"Maybe I'm too naughty," Wenfei said with a smile.

“Fourth Master, you’ve changed,” Changsheng said.

"Tell me quickly, what has changed?" Wenfei asked.

"Since Fourth Master woke up, he has never acted unreasonably or misbehaved," Changsheng said proudly.

"Chang Sheng, you've been with me since you were little. Do you also think that I'm as bad as they say?" Wen Fei asked.

"Chang Sheng knows that Master wouldn't be that kind of person. You've always been kind since you were little, you wouldn't even step on a tiny ant. I don't believe that Master is the kind of person they say he is, but everyone in the city is saying it, and I'm losing confidence too. I'm sorry, Fourth Master, I shouldn't have doubted you." Chang Sheng was about to cry.

“Chang Sheng, let me tell you right now, I haven’t done any of the things they’re saying I’m talking about,” Wen Fei said firmly.

"I knew our master was still the kind person he always was," Changsheng said happily.

"Chang Sheng, what is the character of that Young Master Zhao?" Wen Fei asked.

"Extremely bad, a complete wastrel. All the lazy sons of officials in Yulu City are in cahoots with him. They've done all sorts of bad things, not a single one of them is any good," Changsheng said disdainfully.

"Someone with such a terrible character, do you think he'd be scared out of his wits? Pretty smart! Kid, you can't fool me here." Wen Fei said fiercely.

"Fourth Master, what do you want?" Changsheng asked anxiously.

"Chang Sheng, it's time to pay a visit to Young Master Zhao," Wen Fei said loudly.

"Fourth Master, let's not go. You're all better now, but he's still mentally impaired. What if his family turns around and tries to frame us again?" Changsheng said worriedly.

"Chang Sheng, tomorrow we will go to the Zhao residence to offer our condolences to Young Master Zhao."

Chang Sheng looked at Wen Fei with suspicion, thinking to himself, "I really don't know what kind of trouble Fourth Master is going to cause this time."

"Chang Sheng, go and prepare some gifts, keep them simple," Wen Fei said.

Changsheng left, and Wenfei was thinking of avenging his master. His master had lived a pitiful life and died in a fall. His prince father wouldn't avenge him, so he would. He figured that young master Zhao was probably faking his stupidity, and he needed to quickly come up with a good way to trick him and expose his true colors.

After dinner, Wenfei went to Wenjie's courtyard and entered the room. Afu greeted him. Wenjie was packing his clothes. Wenfei gestured for Afu and Changsheng to leave first, as he had something to say to his second brother.

"Look at you sneaking around, what mischief are you up to now?" Wenjie said indulgently.

"Is Second Brother preparing to leave?" Wenfei asked with concern.

"You're almost fully recovered. You've been back for a while now, it's time for you to go," Wenjie said.

"Second brother, do you really have no attachment to your family at all?" Wenfei asked.

“At home, I’m just staying in the mundane world. There are some things I don’t want to get too entangled in, so leaving is the best choice,” Wenjie said calmly.

"Miss Liang, you don't want it either?" Wen Fei asked.

“We’re not on the same path to begin with, so why keep arguing?” Wenjie said.

"Second brother, you're right, but in your time, aren't marriages all bound by matchmakers and parents' wishes?" Wenfei asked doubtfully.

"Fourth brother, you're talking nonsense more and more. Isn't our era your era?" Wenjie corrected him.

“Second brother is right. But it’s really not right of you to just leave like this. It’s unfair to Miss Liang. At the very least, you have to give her an explanation,” Wenfei said.

“My leaving is the best way to give her an explanation,” Wenjie said.

"I don't understand," Wenfei said, puzzled.

"You're just a little kid, it's better if you don't understand. After I leave, you'd better behave yourself and don't provoke our Prince father anymore. He still seems to be quite dissatisfied with you. You'd better keep a low profile in front of him. If you encounter any insurmountable obstacles, ask our ancestor for help. She is the one who loves you the most," Wenjie said with concern.

"I'll do whatever my second brother says," Wenfei said obediently.

"Speaking of which, you wanted to see me for something? Tell me, and see if I can resolve it for you before I leave," Wenjie said with concern.

"My second brother is still the best to me," Wenjie said playfully.

"Stop talking nonsense and get to the point!" Wenjie said, deliberately putting on a serious expression.

"Second Brother, you are highly skilled in martial arts. Could you go to the Minister's residence tonight to see if Zhao Meng has really gone mad?" Wen Fei said mysteriously.

"Are you crazy! You made me sneak into the Minister's mansion at night. If I get caught, Father will definitely break my legs!" Wenjie said anxiously.

"Second brother, only you can help me. Look, your brother was thrown by that unscrupulous young master Zhao and has been bedridden for so long, making you worry for so long. Don't you want to teach him a lesson and avenge your fourth brother?" Wen Fei said coquettishly.

Wenjie looked at Wenfei's unreasonable behavior, but felt that what he said made sense. He should help his fourth brother get revenge, so he casually agreed: "I'll go."

"Second Brother, your purpose in going there is merely to ascertain whether Zhao Meng is truly foolish or feigning it. You must remain calm and refrain from taking action. I will personally deal with him at the Minister's residence," Wenjie said confidently.

Wenjie looked at Wenfei and wondered, "When did this kid become so mature?"
