The Young Swordsman of Dalu

Chapter 27 Trapped in the Northern Frontier

Under the cover of night, Shangguan Xingyun and Wenjie arrived at the border guard post where the soldiers changed shifts. Each of them grabbed a soldier, immobilized them with pressure points, and then, to be absolutely sure, knocked them unconscious before dragging them to a secluded spot. Wenjie removed the armor and helmets from the two soldiers, and he and Shangguan Xingyun quickly put them on. They then swiftly blended into the rear of the changing shifts and entered the prison.

The cell was dimly lit. Shangguan Xingyun strained his eyes, searching for his mother and elder brother's family. He turned several corners but couldn't find them. Shangguan Xingyun couldn't help but feel anxious. Wenjie carefully looked around and whispered to Shangguan Xingyun, "Don't rush, take your time."

Shangguan Xingyun and Wenjie were assigned to the last cell. Shangguan Xingyun recognized her mother at a glance. She excitedly walked quickly to the door, suppressing her voice, and softly called out, "Mother."

Wang looked at Shangguan Xingyun, unable to believe that her daughter, whom she hadn't seen for twelve years, was now standing before her.

"Yun'er, it really is you! Hurry, you can't stay here, it's too dangerous, you have to leave!" Wang was only thinking about her daughter's safety and didn't even have time to take a good look at her daughter whom she hadn't seen for many years. She was only thinking about her daughter leaving this dangerous place as soon as possible.

"I'm not leaving. I'm here to rescue you all," Shangguan Xingyun said firmly.

Shangguan Xingyun glanced at Wenjie, who whispered to her, "I'll go to the jailer to get the key. Wait for me to come back." Shangguan Xingyun nodded.

"Yun'er, hurry up and go with that young man. Don't let our family's affairs implicate you," Wang said anxiously.

"Mother, I must rescue you and my elder brother. Father sent me here," Shangguan Xingyun said.

"Is your father alright?" Wang asked worriedly.

"He was badly injured, beaten by them, but Mother, don't worry, a doctor has come to see him and given him medicine," Shangguan Xingyun said.

"Sister, you should leave. It's too dangerous here. I only beg you to take your nephew with you. He's still just a child," Shangguan Mulei said sadly.

"Brother, I'm going to rescue you all today, please believe me," Shangguan Xingyun said firmly.

"I've got the key." Wenjie opened the cell door and quickly unlocked the shackles on their hands.

"Let's go quickly," Shangguan Xingyun said.

Wenjie was at the front, followed by Shangguan Mulei carrying his son Shangguan Yu, then his wife Yang Mei, then Wang Shi, and finally Shangguan Xingyun at the very back.

It was already past midnight, and Liang Feiyan was extremely anxious in the courtyard. She was silently praying for Wenjie and Shangguan Xingyun, hoping that they would succeed.

"May Buddha bless them to successfully rescue the people in the south room." Rainbow paced back and forth in the room, muttering to herself.

"Rainbow, I beg you, can you take a break? I'm so annoyed by you pacing back and forth like this," Liang Feiyan said irritably.

"Alright, alright, Miss," Rainbow comforted her.

"Miss Liang, don't worry, let things take their course," Shangguan Chenxing said.

“Mr. Shangguan, they will definitely rescue your wife and son’s family,” Liang Feiyan said firmly.

Shangguan Chenxing didn't speak, but he was more anxious than anyone else. His family was in the prison. If something happened to them, he couldn't live on alone. They weren't together in life, but they would die together.

Inside the cell, Wenjie walked ahead, quickly knocking out the soldiers on guard. They encountered no danger along the way and arrived smoothly at the border camp's courtyard.

"I need to go save my father now," Shangguan Xingyun said to Wenjie.

"You take your mother and your older brother with you first, I'll go," Wenjie said.

“No, I’ll go with them. I can’t drag you down with me,” Shangguan Xingyun said.

"Stop arguing, Young Master Wen and I will go rescue Father. You and your sister-in-law, take Mother and Yu'er and go out first," Shangguan Mulei said.

“Miss Shangguan, let’s go quickly! One of my brothers is waiting for you at the entrance. His name is Sang Ziqi,” Wenjie said.

Wenjie and Shangguan Mulei escorted everyone from the back wall of the border defense camp to the outside, where Sang Ziqi was waiting to meet them.

After they finished, Wenjie and Shangguan Mulei sneaked into the backyard and quietly opened the door.

"Young Master Wen, I knew you would succeed!" Liang Feiyan exclaimed happily when she saw Wen Jie return.

Wenjie quickly made a gesture to be quiet, which startled Liang Feiyan so much that she immediately covered her mouth.

"Father, are you alright? Mother and the others have been rescued. We've come to rescue you." Shangguan Mulei said happily.

"Who told you to come and save me? Hurry up and leave! I'm only a burden to you in this state. Take Miss Liang and the others and leave quickly," Shangguan Chenxing said anxiously.

“Mr. Shangguan, let’s go together. This is what we promised Miss Shangguan,” Wenjie said.

When Shangguan Chenxing tried to persist, Shangguan Mulei had already hoisted him onto his back.

"Let's go quickly!" Wenjie said to Liang Feiyan.

As Wenjie and his group groped their way to the gate of the border camp, someone suddenly shouted, "They've escaped!"

Suddenly, the entire border defense battalion was brightly lit, and Wenjie and his men were completely exposed.

Numerous soldiers rushed out of the barracks and began attacking Wenjie and his men. Wenjie glanced at Liang Feiyan and said, "Miss Liang is behind me. Find the right moment and run away."

"Young Master Wen, don't worry about me, just focus on fighting." Liang Feiyan said, then turned to Caihong and said, "Caihong, today this old lady is going to go on a killing spree!"

"Miss, we'll do as you say, kill!" Rainbow said firmly and loudly.

Wenjie could tell that the two women, mistress and servant, were skilled in martial arts.

"I didn't expect Miss Liang to be a trained fighter. Let's go for it then."

"And there's me, Shangguan Murei!" Shangguan Murei chimed in.

"Charge out!" they shouted as they charged toward the soldiers.

Shangguan Xingyun had Sang Ziqi take her mother, sister-in-law, and nephew away. She led the horses that Sang Ziqi had prepared in advance, tied them to a secluded spot, climbed over the wall, and entered the border camp. The scene before her eyes made her blood boil. Wenjie and the others were fighting to the death. She saw her brother carrying her seriously wounded father. She leaped into the fighting crowd.

Just as everyone was fighting their way to the door, a loud "bang" was heard outside. The door had opened. It turned out that Sang Ziqi had returned after making arrangements for Wang Shi and the others. He hadn't expected that the gunpowder that had been sitting at home for so long would come in so handy.

"Wenjie, rush out!" Sang Ziqi shouted.

Everyone rushed out of the gate, where Sang Ziqi had already led over the horses that Shangguan Xingyun had hidden.

"Everyone, get on your horses!" Sang Ziqi shouted.

Wenjie and Sang Ziqi covered the others as they mounted their horses first, before they quickly mounted and rode away.

The archers in the border defense camp have all been taken to the west city for training these past few days. There are no archers in the barracks, and the officers and soldiers can only watch helplessly as they escape.

"Martial law is in effect throughout the city. Not even an ant can crawl out of this Northern Frontier City!"
