The Young Swordsman of Dalu

Chapter 25 Encounter in the Northern Frontier

Liang Feiyan and Caihong spent several days exploring Beijiang City. They ate almost every kind of food in the city and walked through almost every street and alley. Several times they almost ran into Wenjie, but somehow they missed each other.

After several days of searching, Shangguan Xingyun finally found out where her parents and elder brother were. She couldn't understand how her parents, who were such law-abiding people, could have offended the city defense camp. Shangguan Xingyun wanted to find an opportunity to sneak into the city defense camp.

Wenjie searched everywhere but couldn't find any trace of Shangguan Xingyun. He arranged to meet Sang Ziqi near the city defense camp. When they met again, Sang Ziqi brought him good news: someone had seen a young man, about twenty years old, inquiring about Shangguan Chenxing's family in the city.

“This young man must be Shangguan Xingyun in disguise. Where is she now?” Wenjie said.

"Wenjie, I'll go check it out again," Sang Ziqi said, turning to leave.

“Sang Ziqi, no need. We’ll just wait here. I think Shangguan Xingyun will find this place soon,” Wenjie said.

“Wenjie is right. Since we know that Shangguan Chenxing’s family is here, Shangguan Xingyun should know as well, so we don’t need to search everywhere,” Sang Ziqi said.

On this day, the city defense camp posted a notice in the city, which basically said that someone in the city defense camp had contracted a strange disease, and they posted a notice to find a famous doctor in the city of Beijiang to come to the city defense camp for treatment. There would be a big reward for the doctor who could cure the disease.

Liang Feiyan and Caihong were walking on the street when they saw a group of people gathered around, seemingly looking at something. They moved forward, squeezed into the crowd, and saw the notice posted by the city defense battalion.

"Young master, it's time for you to show your skills," Rainbow said excitedly.

"Don't talk nonsense!" Liang Feiyan said sternly.

Liang Feiyan pulled Caihong out of the crowd, looking at Caihong with dissatisfaction.

“Young master, aren’t you a medical student? Saving lives is your duty,” Rainbow said, pouting.

“Don’t you even look at where we are? Northern Frontier City is so far away from our Yulu City. If we run into trouble here, we won’t even have anyone to reason with,” Liang Feiyan said.

“Young master, this Northern Frontier City is also part of our Great Lu Kingdom’s territory. The soldiers here guard our border from foreign invasion. Can’t you lend them a hand?” Rainbow said.

“Rainbow, you truly have the world in your heart. I have always underestimated you. For the sake of the soldiers guarding the border, alright, I will go and take down the notice,” Liang Feiyan said.

On the city defense camp side, Wenjie and Sang Ziqi waited anxiously for Shangguan Xingyun to appear, but after several days, he still hadn't arrived. Wenjie was getting worried, fearing that Shangguan Xingyun had also met with misfortune.

"Wenjie, don't worry. With Miss Shangguan's skills, she won't be so easy for them to catch," Sang Ziqi comforted him.

"I hope so!" Wenjie sighed.

As Wenjie and Sang Ziqi were talking, they saw two young men in the distance, one of whom was holding a piece of paper and walking towards the gate of the city defense camp.

Wenjie looked at the young man walking in front of him and felt that he looked familiar, as if he had seen him somewhere before, but he couldn't remember where.

“They must have been holding a notice posted by the city defense battalion looking for people to see doctors,” Sang Ziqi said.

"A doctor's notice? Who's sick?" Wenjie asked.

“It was posted a few days ago, but you were so focused on finding Miss Shangguan that you didn’t notice it,” Sang Ziqi said.

"Sang Ziqi, do you think it's possible that someone in Shangguan Chenxing's family is sick?" Wenjie asked somewhat anxiously.

"I don't know. How about we ask them when they come out later?" Sang Ziqi said.

“That makes sense, let’s wait here,” Wenjie said.

Just as they were getting into their conversation, a convoy delivering vegetables to the city defense camp came from not far away. Shangguan Xingyun, dressed as a farmer, blended in with the convoy and easily followed it into the city defense camp.

A soldier led the vegetable delivery convoy to the backyard of the city defense camp, which was the kitchen. The soldier checked the convoy again and told them they could move the vegetables into the kitchen and then leave.

Shangguan Xingyun carried a basket of vegetables into the kitchen. She noticed a small door leading to the back of the kitchen and secretly slipped out through it when no one was looking.

There was a latrine outside the small gate. Shangguan Xingyun went in, leaped over the latrine wall, and entered the small courtyard.

Shangguan Xingyun walked cautiously, carefully observing her surroundings. At that moment, several people arrived at the small courtyard, entered the room, and closed the door behind them.

"Are my parents locked up here?" Shangguan Xingyun wondered to himself.

She quietly approached the door and saw her long-lost father through the crack. She wanted to rush in, but she quickly suppressed the urge. She had to find a way to rescue him.

Shangguan Xingyun peeked through the crack in the door again and realized that the person who went in was there to see her father.

"Father is sick," Shangguan Xingyun thought with heartache. At this moment, she thought that no matter what, she had to rescue her parents and let them suffer less.

Shangguan Xingyun found a secluded spot to hide, and she waited for the people inside to come out.

Similarly, Wenjie and Sang Ziqi were waiting outside the city defense camp for the doctor to come out, hoping to take the opportunity to find out what was going on inside the camp.

In the city defense camp, Shangguan Chenxing was lying in bed, his body extremely weak. For three months, he and his family had been suffering every day in the city defense camp. Yao Chong had been tormenting them relentlessly. If he hadn't fallen ill, they would have continued to torment him. His poor son had taken the brunt of it all for him and had been tortured beyond recognition.

After Liang Feiyan finished taking Shangguan Chenxing's pulse, she quietly looked at him for a while, and Shangguan Chenxing closed his eyes.

"Doctor, can his illness still be cured?" the military officer asked.

"It depends on who treats you," Liang Feiyan said.

"You mean only you can cure it?" the military officer said.

"Yes," Liang Feiyan said affirmatively.

"What if it can't be cured?" the military officer asked.

“We will not accept any silver,” Liang Feiyan said.

"I'm afraid your life won't be in danger then," the military officer said viciously.

"Alright, I'll prescribe some medicine for him. I'll come back tomorrow," Liang Feiyan said.

"I'm afraid you won't be able to leave this courtyard," the military officer said with a wicked grin.

"Why? Can't I even leave to see a doctor?" Liang Feiyan said.

"We'll talk about it when he's better. You can stay in the room next door. Give me the prescription and go get the medicine for him. You can also take care of decocting and feeding him the medicine." After saying this, the military officer took the prescription, closed the door, and left.

"See? This is what happens when you have the world in your heart," Liang Feiyan said to Rainbow.

"How could they do this? It's so unreasonable!" Rainbow said angrily.

"Since we're already here, let's make the best of it and talk about it later," Liang Feiyan said.

Liang Feiyan turned to look at Shangguan Chenxing lying on the bed. She walked over, bent down, and gently called out, "Sir, sir."

Shangguan Chenxing opened his eyes and looked at the two people in front of him.

"It's all my fault for dragging you down," Shangguan Chenxing said weakly.

“They tortured you, sir. How did you end up in this situation?” Liang Feiyan asked.

"It's a long story. I may not escape death this time, but I have something on my mind, and I would like to ask for your help, young master," Shangguan Chenxing said.

“Please speak, sir,” Liang Feiyan said.

“I have a daughter who studied under Master Wuyi in Beishan since childhood. She has been away from the Northern Frontier for many years and we have never met her. I beg you, young master, to go to Beishan to see her after you leave and tell her not to seek revenge for me, her mother, and her elder brother. We only want her to live a happy life. Her name is Shangguan Xingyun,” Shangguan Chenxing said.

“I will definitely pass on the message when I have the chance, please rest assured, sir,” Liang Feiyan said.

Just then, the door creaked open, and a person rushed to the bedside.

"Father, your unfilial daughter has come." Shangguan Xingyun knelt by the bedside and wept bitterly.
