Rebirth to Save Myself

Chapter 86 Opening Ceremony

Since it was everyone's first day at school, Ye Zhenzhen suggested they all have a meal together to get acquainted. The other three had no objections, so they all set off together to the cafeteria to see what good food was available. During the meal, they exchanged WeChat, QQ, and phone numbers, since they were all roommates, it would be convenient in case they forgot their keys or food later.

"Wow, Su Xia, you have so many landscape photos on your profile!" Ye Zhenzhen curiously flipped through Su Xia's photo album and found a lot of photos. Su Xia thoughtfully categorized them and organized them into different albums by location.

"These are all photos I took when I went out to play."

"And our school too! You've been here before!"

"Yes, we came here in advance to familiarize ourselves with the area."

"Hey, junior Su Xia!" Su Wanqing suddenly called out to Su Xia.

The group looked over and saw a super handsome guy standing next to Su Wanqing, who looked to be around 185cm tall. Su Xia replied, "Senior Wanqing!"

Are you guys going to eat in the cafeteria?

"Yes."

"Then you can try the mala tang in the No. 3 canteen, it tastes pretty good."

"Okay, thank you, senior sister."

As the two groups passed each other, Su Wanqing said to the boy, "She's the junior I told you about, isn't she cute?"

"Ah."

What are we going to eat tonight?

"casual."

"Let's go get some light snacks, and then we'll go buy some milk tea."

"it is good."

The four of them didn't know much about the school cafeterias, so they went to Cafeteria No. 3, which Su Wanqing had recommended. They found a long queue at the spicy hot pot restaurant there, and it looked delicious. Su Xia glanced at the group, her eyes asking, "Are you still going to eat here?"

"Eat it! I want to see if it tastes good." Ye Zhenzhen got angry and insisted on tasting it.

"I... I can wait too," Chen Wanying said softly.

"What about Lu Lu?" Su Xia looked at her, asking for her opinion.

"Okay," Lu Lu said, and then fell silent.

So the four of them found a nearby spot and took turns queuing at the window. The hot pot was made quickly, so it wasn't long before it was their turn.

"Wow, this mala tang tastes really good!" Ye Zhenzhen exclaimed after taking a sip of the soup.

"Mmm, it's delicious." Chen Wanying nodded in agreement.

Lu Lu remained silent as always, and Su Xia did not force her to talk to them. Everyone has a different personality, which is normal.

Back in the dormitory, everyone took turns showering and went to their beds. Ye Zhenzhen started the conversation: "Why did you all get into this university? It's because my family members all study engineering, so I've been exposed to it since I was little and have come to love it."

“I… I love literature,” Chen Wanying said.

"By the way, Wanying, you're stuttering a little. Is it because you're nervous?" Ye Zhenzhen asked curiously. At first, she thought Chen Wanying was doing it on purpose, speaking so softly.

“I… I don’t stutter. I’m a little bad at getting along with people, and I’ve never lived in a dormitory before,” Chen Wanying said, then added, “It was my insistence on living in the dormitory.”

"Oh, is it okay if I don't live in the dorm?" Ye Zhenzhen asked in surprise.

“My dad was going to buy me a house near the school, but I didn’t want it,” Chen Wanying said, twirling her two index fingers in circles.

"Damn, what kind of family do you come from?!" Ye Zhenzhen couldn't help but ask.

"No, no," Chen Wanying quickly denied. Before the start of the semester, Ye Zhe had specifically told her not to flaunt her wealth.

"What about Su Xia? You're also a Chinese language major, is there anything different about you?" Ye Zhenzhen didn't press further, but turned to ask Su Xia why she chose to study Chinese language.

"Me? I applied to many majors, but I was admitted to this one," Su Xia said jokingly.

"A lucky break?" Ye Zhenzhen couldn't help but wonder if their school was really that easy to get into.

"Hahaha, no, just kidding. I find Chinese language and literature very interesting, so I studied it." Su Xia waved her hand and then readily admitted it.

"I never expected Su Xia to joke like that." Ye Zhenzhen looked at Su Xia in disbelief. In her first impression of Su Xia, she was a well-bred lady from a wealthy family, the kind who was obedient and quiet.

"And what about you? Few girls like civil engineering. Isn't it said that you have to go to a construction site after graduation?" Su Xia was also curious. All the civil engineering students she knew had gone to construction sites. In less than two or three months, they were all tanned like they had been to Africa.

“My family is all in civil engineering, so I chose civil engineering too. Besides, not all civil engineering projects require going to construction sites. I’m going to prepare for the civil service exam and then go to my uncle’s company,” Ye Zhenzhen said naturally, revealing her plans.

"That's good, that's good, you have powerful connections." Su Xia suddenly realized that having connections in a public institution was indeed much easier than not having them. She guessed that Ye Zhenzhen's parents either worked for a public institution or a large company, which gave them the confidence to let their daughter continue studying civil engineering. Then Su Xia turned to Lu Lu and asked, "What about you? Lu Lu, is your family also a civil engineering family like Zhenzhen's?"

"No," Lu Lu replied directly, and then fell silent.

"Then why did you choose civil engineering?" Su Xia had no choice but to continue asking.

"Blind selection." A clean and straightforward answer, requiring no further explanation.

"Oh, do you know what civil engineering studies?" Su Xia asked again.

"I don't know." I didn't feel ashamed to tell the truth.

"No, sister, you don't even know what civil engineering is, yet you chose this major?" Ye Zhenzhen couldn't help but jump out of bed and ask Lu Lu the question.

"If you don't understand, you should learn. Don't teachers teach you?" Lu Lu asked.

"I can teach, but..." Ye Zhenzhen was speechless for a moment, unsure how to respond to Lu Lu's words.

"Who says you can't study civil engineering if you don't know anything about it?" Lu Lu pressed her advantage, asking another question.

"No one says so." Ye Zhenzhen was completely defeated. Well, she was indeed a bit narrow-minded!

"Hahaha, I never thought Zhenzhen would have a moment when she has nothing to say." Su Xia laughed her head off watching from the side.

"Haha." Chen Wanying couldn't help but laugh as well.

"I'm sorry, I misunderstood." Ye Zhenzhen was good-natured and apologized directly.

"It's alright." Lu Lu didn't press her further and left without saying anything more.

The atmosphere became awkward for a moment, and then Ye Zhenzhen, probably wanting to let bygones be bygones, started a new topic by asking everyone: "Of the four of us, besides Wanying who has a boyfriend, who else has a boyfriend?"

“No,” Lu Lu replied immediately.

"Me neither." Su Xia shook her head, then asked Ye Zhenzhen, "What about you?"

"Although I don't have one either, I do have someone I like." Ye Zhenzhen proudly raised her chin, indicating that she was different from all the single people out there!

"Oh? Who is it? Is it from our school?" Su Xia asked curiously.

"Is it from the school?" Chen Wanying was also interested in this matter and asked as well.

"It's a secret for now. I'll tell you all once I successfully confess my feelings," Ye Zhenzhen said mysteriously.

"I'm going to sleep." Lu Lu said, then pulled her bed curtains shut and left the group chat.

"No way! Logically speaking, shouldn't the first night of school be a great opportunity to talk about many things and get to know each other better all night long?" Ye Zhenzhen reached out Er Kang's hand to try and persuade her to stay.

"It's getting late, and I'm a little sleepy too." Chen Wanying also subtly indicated that she wanted to leave the group chat.

"Okay, there's an opening ceremony tomorrow, go to sleep early, Zhenzhen." Su Xia also left the group chat.

"You guys are so boring!" Ye Zhenzhen's protest went unanswered. Everyone had drawn their curtains, indicating they were already asleep and wouldn't chat or make plans.

The next day, Su Xia was awakened by a slight noise. She got up and looked down to see Lu Lu coming out of the bathroom, probably having just finished washing up. Lu Lu saw Su Xia and asked, "Did I disturb you?"

"No, I was planning to get up too." Su Xia shook her head, then decided to sit on the bed and rest for a while. She picked up her phone and saw that Lu Jingnian had sent her a message in the early hours of the morning:

Heading Towards Summer: Have you arrived at school yet? How is it?

All the Way to Summer: How are your roommates?

Summer is Coming: I saw a very cute kitten today. It wasn't shy at all and even ate the sausage I fed it.

All the Way to Summer: How are you feeling?

Coffee to keep me going: It's already the second morning, and I just got up.

Coffee to keep me going: I arrived at school around the same time as during my summer vacation and met a very kind upperclassman. She helped me carry my luggage, pick up my packages, and even recommended which cafeteria was the best.

Coffee keeps me going: My roommates are all doing well so far. Everyone has their own personality, and we get along quite well.

Coffee for a Break: The cat is so cute! It looks like a stray. I wonder if anyone feeds it regularly.

Coffee to keep me going: This morning there was an opening ceremony, then I went to my classroom to pick up my new books and check the class schedule. Classes officially start tomorrow. My mom sent me a lot of packages, and I got a lot of stares as I carried them around. I bet the upperclassmen will start spreading the rumor that there's a rich freshman.

Coffee to keep you going: Isn't that ridiculous? It's mostly filled with tissues and toiletries.

After replying to the message, Su Xia got out of bed and went to the bathroom to wash up. When she came out, she found that Chen Wanying was also up, and Ye Zhenzhen's alarm clock was still ringing, but she hadn't moved at all.

"Zhenzhen probably went to bed too late last night, she didn't get up even when the alarm went off today," Chen Wanying whispered to Su Xia.

"It's okay, there's still time. I'll wake her up in a bit." Su Xia went over and thoughtfully turned off Ye Zhenzhen's alarm clock before returning to her seat.

She had already poured herself a cup of hot water before washing up, and it was just the right temperature to drink now; one sip and she felt half-warm. Chen Chunqi had bought her a thermos, so she wouldn't have to boil water every time she wanted to. Chen Chunqi is truly a very good mother; she always pays attention to what her children need and prepares it for them, and she listens quietly to their troubles when they need her. She didn't object when she discovered Chen Yuan was dating, and she largely respects her children's thoughts and opinions.

"Zhenzhen, get up, or it'll be too late." Su Xia nudged Ye Zhenzhen, trying to get her up.

"Um, Mom, I'll sleep a little longer."

“Zhenzhen, I am Su Xia, not your mother.”

"What, Su Xia!" Ye Zhenzhen suddenly opened her eyes and found Su Xia smiling at her from the foot of the bed. Then she said shyly, "Thank you for waking me up."

"It's okay. I turned off your alarm, so it's only right that I wake you up."

"Oh no, my alarm went off!" Ye Zhenzhen hurriedly picked up her phone and realized that the alarm must have gone off ten minutes ago.

"It's okay, we're all up now." Su Xia comforted her, then went down the ladder.

The four of them got ready and went to the indoor auditorium together. There were already many people there when they arrived. Su Xia and Chen Wanying went to find their classrooms for the Chinese Language and Literature major, and then they parted ways with Ye Zhenzhen and Lu Lu.

The opening ceremony was tedious, tedious, and incredibly long, starting with a brief speech from the principal, followed by a few words from the vice-principal, and then a speech from a freshman representative. After spending the entire morning in the stuffy, hot auditorium, Su Xia felt like she could barely breathe. Then, remembering that everyone would be dismissed soon and they might have to rush to grab a seat in the cafeteria, Su Xia said to Chen Wanying, "I'm going straight back to my dorm. What about you?"

"Ah, Zhe said he wants to have lunch with me." Chen Wanying said softly. Ye Zhe was originally going to eat alone last night, but because she had to participate in a dormitory activity, she made plans to have lunch with him today.

“Then you can go with him. I’ll ask Zhenzhen and Lulu.” Su Xia nodded, then took out her phone and sent messages to Ye Zhenzhen and Lulu.

Ye Zhenzhen: I'm going to the cafeteria to eat with my classmates. Do you want to come with me?

Su Xia: No, there will be a lot of people later, I'll go eat later.

Ye Zhenzhen: [OK]

----------

Lu Lu: Okay.

Su Xia: Then we'll meet at the auditorium entrance later.

Lu Lu: Okay.

----------

Finally, with the teacher's order to leave in an orderly fashion, the auditorium bustled with activity. People jostled and chatted as they made their way to the door, discussing what they would eat at the cafeteria. Those who were quick had already secured their seats. Although the school has many cafeterias, they vary in distance. Even though it's September, it's still quite hot, so cafeterias near the auditorium or dormitories are particularly popular and sought-after.

Su Xia and the others dispersed a bit before heading towards the entrance, where she immediately noticed Lu Lu standing there waiting for her. She quickly ran over and asked, "Have you been waiting long?"

"No."

"Because there were a lot of people, I waited for a while."

"Ah."

"Shall we go back to the dorm?"

"it is good."
