Chapter Seventeen: I Won't Save Him

"Are you planning to sit here all night?" Leng Yuling finally couldn't help but ask.

Mo Zhen did not answer immediately, and after a long pause, he slowly said, "I can take it as the Empress inviting me?"

“You’d better not think that.” Leng Yuling was startled, almost dropping her teacup. After steadying it, she stood up and said, “What I mean is, you should go do what you’re supposed to do and don’t need to stay here to keep watch.”

"Did I do something that made you misunderstand?" Mo Zhen asked Leng Yuling calmly without making a move.

The latter frowned, looked at him with a puzzled expression, and asked curiously, "What's the misunderstanding?"

"You misunderstand that I will neglect you on our wedding night."

Upon hearing Mo Zhen's words, Leng Yuling froze. Having lived two lives, how could Leng Yuling not understand the meaning behind Mo Zhen's words?

She sat down again, sighed deeply, looked at Mo Zhen, and said in an elder's tone, "Tell me, why can't you understand what I'm saying? I told you I'm a barren woman, but you still insisted on marrying me. I told you I'm still young, but you still insisted on me serving you. You don't seem like that kind of person."

Mo Zhen curled the corners of his lips: "What kind of person?"

"As an emperor, it's easy for you to get someone, but have you ever thought about whether it's meaningful to obtain someone by force? Or do you find it more fulfilling that way?" She paused, then continued, "But seeking fulfillment from a woman like me probably doesn't make much sense, does it?"

Mo Zhen knew Leng Yuling was trying to provoke him, probably to get him to leave her palace, but he refused to leave. He wanted to see what Leng Yuling would do next.

Seeing that Mo Zhen showed no displeasure and had no intention of leaving, Leng Yuling knew that her strategy had failed.

She lowered her head and sighed silently, thinking to herself that those who could become emperors were indeed not simple-minded; even she, with her mind from the 20th century, might not be able to compare.

Knowing that she wouldn't get any response from Mo Zhen no matter what she said, she finally decided to stop talking and let him do whatever he wanted.

"I'm going to sleep, do whatever you want." With that, Leng Yuling stood up and walked towards the inner room, but she was constantly worried that Mo Zhen might follow her in. Fortunately, she didn't hear Mo Zhen's footsteps when she reached the bedside, and she breathed a sigh of relief.

After taking off her shoes, Leng Yuling climbed into bed. Just as she was about to take off her clothes, she remembered that Mo Zhen was outside, so she gave up the idea, tightened her clothes around her chest, and lay straight on the bed.

Although she had closed her eyes, she was worried and constantly on guard against Mo Zhen suddenly coming in. But the drowsiness came too suddenly, and in her vigilance, she didn't even know when she fell asleep.

When Mo Zhen entered, she was completely unaware. Seeing Leng Yuling sleeping fully clothed in her bright red wedding dress on the bed, Mo Zhen couldn't help but frown: "Are you that afraid of me?"

Leng Yuling was asleep, but her brows were tightly furrowed, and her hands were unconsciously gripping the blanket, as if she was having a bad dream.

Mo Zhen was somewhat surprised. It was surprising that Leng Yuling, who usually seemed carefree, also had a troubled side.

"I won't save her."

Suddenly, Mo Zhen heard Leng Yuling say three words in a low, cold voice.

Mo Zhen frowned. It was the first time he had ever seen Leng Yuling so cold, and it was on their wedding night.
