Beast Taming Star Journey

Chapter 74 Internal and External Troubles, Turning the Tide

The urgent cries from the west gate extinguished the last shred of hope in my heart like a bucket of ice water. Damn it! Could my guess be true? Is there really a traitor inside the city? I clenched my fists tightly, and the leaked defensive deployments on the map seemed like mocking faces flashing before my eyes.

"Nong Yu, what happened?"

Su Yao noticed my unusual behavior and asked with concern. I took a deep breath and forced myself to calm down.

"I suspect there is a traitor within the city, someone deliberately leaked our defense plans."

Su Yao's expression also turned serious.

Who is it? Are there any suspects?

I shook my head, my gaze sweeping over everyone in the temporary command center.

Mayor Zhang was filled with anxiety, constantly rubbing his hands; General Li looked serious, preparing to lead his troops to the west gate for support; several beast tamers were discussing the battle situation in hushed tones, their faces full of worry.

There were no obvious flaws, and everyone seemed genuinely committed to defending the town.

"Don't alert them yet," I said in a low voice. "The most important thing now is to stabilize the situation and not panic."

I pointed to several key defensive points on the map. "General Li, you lead the elite troops to reinforce the west gate and make sure to plug the breach! Everyone else, stay at your posts as planned and do not leave your posts without authorization!"

General Li accepted the order and left, leaving only Su Yao, a few soldiers responsible for relaying messages, and me in the command center.

"I'll go to the city wall and check the situation."

Su Yao said, turning to leave.

“Wait,” I called to her, “be careful, I have a feeling something’s not right.”

Su Yao nodded and quickly walked out. I stood alone in front of the map, my unease growing stronger.

I examined the map again closely, trying to pinpoint the source of the leak. Suddenly, I noticed a furtive figure loitering outside the command center.

That's Sun the Thief, a notorious guy in the city.

He usually idles away his time, making a living by stealing chickens and dogs. Logically speaking, he should be hiding far away at a time like this. Why is he here?

A sense of unease flashed through my mind. Without making a sound, I called over a soldier and whispered, "Go and follow him. See what he's doing, but don't let him discover you."

The soldiers obeyed and left, but my eyes remained fixed on the map. The battle at the west gate grew increasingly fierce, with shouts of battle deafening.

I could almost feel the ferocity of the beast tide and their desperate cries. Just then, a childish voice rang out behind me.

"Brother Nong Yu!"

It was Zhao the boy, the one who admired me and wanted to become a beast tamer.

He ran over anxiously, "The west gate is about to fall! A lot of monsters have rushed in!"

My heart sank suddenly and an ominous premonition came over me.

Where is Su Yao?

The young man, Zhao, was pale and stammered, "Sister Su... Su Yao... she... she was..."

Zhao's words struck me like a bolt from the blue, leaving my head buzzing.

"What happened to her? Explain yourself!"

I grabbed his shoulder with such force that he couldn't help but cry out in pain.

"Sister Su Yao...she's been targeted by the Beast Tide Lord..."

The young Zhao spoke haltingly, his face filled with terror, "That...that lord...was too powerful..."

My heart sank to the bottom. A Beast Tide Lord is equivalent to a Beast Taming Grandmaster! Although Su Yao is powerful, facing such a formidable enemy alone, her chances of survival are still slim.

I abruptly shoved Zhao the boy's shoulder and ran wildly toward the west gate.

The horrific scenes along the way filled me with horror; ruins were everywhere, and wounded soldiers and beast tamers groaned in pain. The situation at the west gate was even worse than I had imagined.

A huge crack has appeared in the city wall, making it teeter on the brink of collapse.

Countless magical beasts surged into the city like a tidal wave, engaging in a fierce battle with the soldiers and beast tamers guarding the city.

Meanwhile, Su Yao was being relentlessly suppressed by the beast lord that exuded a terrifying aura.

"Su Yao!"

I screamed at the top of my lungs, desperately slaying the monsters that blocked my way.

My pet beast sensed my anxiety and roared furiously, fighting alongside me and carving a bloody path through the enemy lines.

"Hmph, you don't overestimate your capabilities."

The Beastmaster's voice rang out behind me, tinged with sarcasm, "You think you can save her? That's just wishful thinking."

I ignored him and continued rushing towards Su Yao.

Seeing that Su Yao was about to be struck by the beast lord's claws, I was extremely anxious. I poured all my spiritual power into my beast pet and launched my strongest attack.

When Su Yao saw my figure fighting valiantly, a hint of worry flashed in her eyes, but at the same time, a warm feeling welled up in her heart.

She bravely blocked the beast lord's attack, then took the opportunity to move closer to me.

"You came."

Su Yao's voice carried a hint of weariness, but even more so, a firm resolve.

"I am coming."

I replied firmly, "Let's fight our way out together!"

"Ah, that's truly touching."

The Beastmaster Wang sneered from the side, "But do you think you can escape like this? You're dreaming."

Su Yao was furious when she saw that the Beastmaster Wang was still fanning the flames.

She walked up to the Beastmaster, her eyes flashing with a cold glint. "If you cause any more trouble, I won't be so lenient."

Her upright posture exuded the majesty of a Valkyrie, causing the Beastmaster Wang to feel a chill. Although he was verbally defiant, he dared not make any further rash moves.

I took the opportunity to observe the surrounding situation and found that the beast tide's offensive was becoming increasingly fierce, and the city walls could collapse at any moment.

We must find a way to turn the situation around as soon as possible, or the consequences will be unimaginable. I suddenly remembered the soldier I had sent to track Sun the thief, and quickly inquired about his situation.

"Report! The thief Sun... he... he went to... the warehouse in the west of the city..."

A soldier came running up, panting, to report. The warehouse in the west of the city? That's where the town's...supplies are stored! A terrible thought suddenly flashed through my mind.

I turned around abruptly and ran towards the command center…

"Surround the warehouse in the west of the city! Don't let a single fly out!"
