Beast Taming Star Journey
Chapter 7 First Taming of Spirit Beasts, Competition for Resources
I took Xiaoling back to my place, and before my excitement had even subsided, I was doused with cold water.
On the simple wooden table, there was a small bag of animal feed and a few dull spirit stones.
I grabbed a handful of animal feed, rubbed it between my fingertips, and the rough texture made my heart sink.
With such inferior quality, let alone Xiao Ling, even ordinary wild beasts would probably find it hard to swallow.
Looking at those spirit stones again, their spiritual energy was so thin that it was almost imperceptible; they were more like ordinary stones than spirit stones.
"What... is going on?" I muttered to myself in disbelief.
Although not everyone in the family can tame beasts, beast tamers have always been highly valued, and resource allocation is of paramount importance.
I just proved my abilities at the ancestral hall, and I shouldn't be receiving such a cold reception.
A sense of foreboding washed over me, and I turned and headed toward the village chief's residence.
The village chief's wooden house was much more spacious than mine, with several fruit trees planted in the yard, and a faint fragrance of fruit permeating the air.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm my dissatisfaction, and knocked on the wooden door.
"Nongyu, what's the matter?" The village chief opened the door with a formulaic smile on his face.
I cut to the chase: "Village chief, I want to ask why I have received so few beast-taming resources? It's simply not enough for Xiao Ling's cultivation."
The village chief's smile froze for a moment. He rubbed his hands together, his voice hesitant, "Well... Nong Yu, you know, family resources are limited, and we need to allocate them reasonably. Lin Hu... he has higher talent, so..."
"High talent?" I couldn't help but interrupt him. "Village chief, you've seen it yourself. Xiao Ling's potential is no less than Lin Hu's beast taming. Why does he get ample resources while I only get these scraps?"
The village chief sighed and said earnestly, "Nongyu, Lin Hu is a direct descendant of the Lin family. He has received the best training since childhood, and his beast taming training started earlier than yours. The family's resources will naturally be given priority to promising descendants like him. Don't be discouraged. When you show stronger strength in the future, the family will naturally give you more resources."
His words sounded grand and dignified, yet they sent a chill down my spine. This was clearly favoritism!
I clenched my fists, trying to control the anger in my heart: "Village chief, I understand."
I turned and left without saying anything more. Back at my lodgings, I looked at the pitiful amount of resources on the table, and a sense of helplessness welled up inside me.
Am I really going to just stand by and watch Xiaoling's cultivation be hindered by a lack of resources? No, I will never give up!
I picked up Xiaoling and gazed intently at the rolling ancient forest outside the window...
"Come on, Xiaoling, let's find resources ourselves!" I led Xiaoling and plunged into the edge of the ancient forest.
Here, ancient trees reach for the sky, blocking out the sun, and the air is filled with the damp scent of earth.
Sunlight filters through the dense foliage, casting dappled shadows on the ground, making everything appear mysterious and tranquil.
As I carefully avoided the thorns and bushes, I searched diligently for anything that might be useful to Little Spirit.
Little Ling was hopping and skipping around me, its nimble nose constantly sniffing, as if it were searching for something.
After walking for about half an hour, Xiao Ling suddenly stopped. It excitedly whimpered softly towards a cave hidden by vines, its little paws constantly scratching at the ground.
I parted the vines, and a refreshing spiritual energy rushed towards me. Deep inside the cave, I saw a spiritual herb, entirely green and emitting a faint glow, growing quietly.
My heart leaped with joy—this was a treasure! This Jade Spirit Grass contained abundant spiritual energy, which greatly aided the growth of young spirit beasts.
I carefully picked the Biling Grass and put it into the cloth bag I always carry with me.
Just as he finished putting away the Jade Spirit Grass, a sarcastic voice came from behind him: "Oh, isn't this our great beast-taming genius Nong Yu? What's wrong? Not getting enough to eat at the clan, so you've come here to steal things?"
I turned around and saw Lin Hu, with a few henchmen, looking at me with a mocking expression.
I had a bad feeling. Lin Hu has always disliked me, and now that he's caught me, it probably won't be easy for me to get away.
"Lin Hu, don't make false accusations! I found this spiritual herb myself, how did that become stealing?" I said, trying to remain calm.
Lin Hu sneered, "You found it yourself? The resources at the edge of this ancient forest belong to the family. You've violated the family rules by collecting them without permission! If you know what's good for you, hand over the spirit herbs, and I might consider being lenient with you."
I gripped the cloth bag tightly, my heart churning with anger. This Jade Spirit Grass was something I had gone through so much trouble to find; it was crucial for Little Spirit's growth. How could I just hand it over so easily?
"Lin Hu, that's just sophistry! The family rules don't prohibit us from collecting resources; they just require us to register and report," I argued.
"Enough with the nonsense!" Lin Hu waved his hand impatiently. "What right do you, a piece of trash who just awakened his beast-taming ability, have to talk to me about rules? You'll have to hand over this spirit herb today, whether you like it or not!"
His henchmen behind him also started shouting and approached me step by step.
I was extremely anxious. This Lin Hu was relying on his family's support and was completely unreasonable.
What should I do? Am I really just going to stand by and watch him steal my spiritual herb?
Just as I was caught in a dilemma, Lin Hu suddenly reached out and grabbed me, yelling, "You won't listen to reason, so you'll have to drink the penalty cup! Give it to me!"
I instinctively protected the bag and took a step back... Suddenly, Xiao Ling jumped out of my arms and let out a sharp roar at Lin Hu. A faint fluorescent light emanated from its body, as if something was about to burst out of it...
