Beast Taming Star Journey
Chapter 62 A Maze of Traps and Mechanisms: Breaking Through with Wisdom and Courage
At the end of the passage was not a smooth road, but a huge stone chamber.
Su Yao murmured, "This is... a treasure chamber?"
An ancient and mysterious aura wafted over, and a faint smell of dust filled the air.
In the center of the stone chamber, there were no gold or silver treasures as one might have imagined, only a complex array of mechanisms. The floor and walls were covered with runes that shimmered with an eerie light, like stars in the night sky, yet exuding a chilling aura of danger.
I instinctively gripped Su Yao's hand, feeling the warmth of her palm, which reassured me a lot.
Wu Gang and Lin Wan'er, who were following behind us, also came in. Lin Wan'er timidly hid behind Wu Gang, her big eyes filled with curiosity and fear.
Wu Gang looked around, pushed up his glasses, and said, "It seems the real treasure is deeper inside. We need to break through this trap."
I nodded and cautiously stepped into the stone chamber. I took each step with extreme care, afraid of triggering some mechanism.
The frequency of the runes seemed to increase as we entered, and a tense atmosphere filled the air.
"Everyone be careful, these runes look dangerous."
I reminded her. Su Yao nodded solemnly, drew her long sword from her waist, and warily surveyed her surroundings.
The four of us moved slowly, as if walking through a minefield, each step making our nerves taut.
Suddenly, Lin Wan'er exclaimed, "Ah!"
She accidentally bumped into a protruding stone on the wall, and instantly, a flame shot out from the top of the stone chamber, heading straight for Lin Wan'er.
"Wan'er!"
Wu Gang shouted and tackled Lin Wan'er to the ground, the flames almost grazing their bodies.
When the flames died down, we discovered that Wu Gang's arm had been slightly burned, while Lin Wan'er was pale with fright and clung tightly to Wu Gang's arm.
"Wu Gang, are you alright?"
I rushed over to check on his injuries.
Wu Gang shook his head and said through gritted teeth, "I'm fine, just minor burns."
I took out some medicine from my backpack and treated Wu Gang's wounds. The close call just now made us even more aware of the danger of this trap formation.
I took a deep breath and forced myself to calm down. I carefully observed the runes around me, trying to find a pattern.
The knowledge I had learned in the ruins came in handy at this moment. I vaguely sensed that these runes were not random, but some kind of ancient script, and there seemed to be some kind of connection between them.
My gaze darted back and forth between the runes on the walls and floor, my mind constantly analyzing their arrangements and combinations. Time ticked by, and the atmosphere in the stone chamber grew increasingly oppressive, like a taut string that could snap at any moment.
Suddenly, my gaze fell on an inconspicuous rune in the center of the stone chamber. This rune was slightly different from the others; its light was fainter and more complex... I reached out and slowly moved my hand toward the rune... I took a deep breath and forced myself to calm down.
The knowledge of ancient runes I had learned in the ruins came in handy at this moment. I vaguely sensed that these runes were not random, but rather some kind of ancient language, and that there was some connection between them.
My gaze moved back and forth between the runes on the walls and the floor, my mind constantly analyzing their arrangements and combinations, trying to find the patterns within them.
Time ticked by, and the atmosphere in the stone chamber grew increasingly oppressive. Sweat dripped from my forehead, falling to the ground and shattering into eight pieces.
I felt my heart pounding faster and faster, like a drumbeat. Suddenly, my gaze fell on an inconspicuous rune in the center of the stone chamber.
This rune is slightly different from the others; its light is fainter and more complex, like a black hole hidden among the stars, drawing all my attention.
An intuition told me that this was the key! I held my breath, reached out my finger, and slowly touched the rune.
The moment my fingertips touched the runes, the entire stone chamber trembled.
The runes on the ground began to emit a dazzling light, like swimming fire serpents, flowing rapidly along the predetermined trajectory.
I felt a powerful energy surge from the rune, flowing up my arm and throughout my body, filling me with an unprecedented sense of power. I knew I had found it!
Just as I was immersed in the excitement of cracking the mechanism, a metallic scraping sound broke the tranquility of the stone chamber.
"Crack crack crack..." In the corner of the stone chamber, several small guardian puppets suddenly appeared. They were made of metal, held sharp blades that gleamed coldly, and approached us.
"careful!"
I shouted. Su Yao reacted quickly, drawing her longsword from her waist and charging forward without hesitation. She moved with the agility of a cheetah, her sword flashing, creating gusts of wind as she engaged the puppet in fierce combat.
At first, Su Yao struggled a bit; the puppet's attack speed was very fast, and its strength was enormous.
However, Su Yao did not back down. She calmly observed the puppets' attack methods and looked for their weaknesses.
As the battle progressed, Su Yao gradually became familiar with the puppet's attack patterns and began to fight back.
She no longer simply defended, but seized the gaps in the puppet's attacks to launch decisive strikes. Each blow was precise and powerful, hitting the puppet's vitals.
A flash of sword light appeared, and the puppet's metal limbs were severed, scattering across the ground. While keeping an eye on Su Yao's battle, I continued to decipher the mechanisms.
As the last rune was activated, the mechanism emitted a crisp sound and stopped operating.
At the same time, the floor in the center of the stone chamber slowly descended, revealing a massive stone door. The door was covered with strange patterns, exuding an ancient and mysterious aura.
Could the treasure for beast evolution be behind this stone door? We cautiously approached the stone door, and Su Yao, having dealt with the remaining puppets, came to my side.
I took a deep breath and reached out to push against the stone door...
