Beast Taming Star Journey
Chapter 408 A Cornered Beast Fights to the Death
Chapter 408
“I have to tell you something.” The strategist’s grave expression interrupted my thoughts. I forced myself to pull myself out of the tense battle and looked at him. “What is it?”
“The dark behemoth…it…it is learning.” The strategist uttered these words with difficulty, as if they weighed a ton.
Learning? A chill ran down my spine. A terrifying thought flashed through my mind. Could this behemoth possess intelligence, capable of analyzing our tactics and adjusting its attack strategy?
Before I could think it through, the changes on the battlefield confirmed my suspicions. The dark behemoth's attacks suddenly became precise and effective. It no longer bombarded indiscriminately as before, but instead targeted the weakest points in our defensive formation. The pressure on our flanks increased dramatically, and the team led by the Iridium Beastmaster struggled to hold on, but was forced into retreat.
"Damn it!" I cursed under my breath, my heart feeling like it was being gripped tightly by an invisible hand. The situation was rapidly deteriorating; if the flanks collapsed, the consequences would be unimaginable.
With a loud "Boom!", a massive beast was sent flying by the dark behemoth and crashed heavily to the ground, letting out a painful howl.
"No, we'll all die if this continues!" The Mercury Envoy's face was deathly pale, and his voice trembled.
I took a deep breath, a resolute glint in my eyes. I could no longer remain passively defensive; I had to take the initiative!
With a roar, I unleashed my beast-taming power to an unprecedented level. A powerful energy wave emanated from me, as if the surrounding air itself had solidified. My beasts, sensing my power, roared deafeningly, their eyes blazing with battle lust.
"Charge!" I raised my longsword high, pointing it at the dark behemoth.
My tamed beasts shot out like arrows, with unwavering determination. They were of one mind with me; my anger and resolve transformed into their power, crashing fiercely into the dark behemoth.
In an instant, light shone brightly and energy surged. My tamed beasts engaged in a fierce battle with the dark behemoth, each strike containing earth-shattering power.
"Roar!" The dark behemoth let out a deafening roar, clearly enraged by our counterattack. It brandished its massive claws, attacking my tamed beasts with frenzied fury.
The battle reached its climax, with both sides fighting with all their might and showing no sign of backing down. Although my tamed beasts were brave, their strength was ultimately limited, and they gradually began to fall into a disadvantageous position.
I gritted my teeth and once again activated the beast-taming power within my body. An even more powerful energy surged into my beasts, their wounds healing at a visible speed, and their aura surging once more.
"Hold on!" I roared, my voice hoarse.
My tamed beasts unleashed their powerful strength once again, forcefully repelling the dark behemoth's attack.
Just then, I felt an unusual energy fluctuation coming from the dark behemoth's body.
"Oh no!" I thought to myself, "It's going to..."
Su Yao suddenly appeared beside me, her eyes filled with worry, "Nong Yu..."
Su Yao swayed as she walked towards me. The light shining in her eyes wasn't the fighting spirit I was familiar with, but rather a kind of…admiration? I was momentarily stunned. My nerves, almost numb from the impact of the giant beast, were now unusually sensitive to her approach. The fragrance emanating from her, mixed with the bloody smell of the battlefield, strangely made me feel at ease.
"Brother Yu, you're really amazing," she said in a soft, gentle voice I'd never heard before, then pressed herself tightly against me. I could feel her body temperature, her heartbeat. In that moment, the clamor of the battlefield seemed to vanish, leaving only her and me. I stood there stiffly, unsure what to do with my hands. This sudden intimacy left me somewhat bewildered, yet unable to resist.
“Ahem,” Jinbo strategist coughed awkwardly twice, breaking the delicate atmosphere, “Now is not the time for sentimentality.”
I snapped out of my daze, hurriedly pushing Su Yao away, my face burning hot. "Ahem, the situation is urgent..."
However, before I could finish speaking, I heard a furious roar: "Jin Yi! What are you doing? Why aren't you using your full strength?!"
I looked in the direction of the sound and saw the Mercury Envoy glaring angrily at the Iridium Beastmaster. Iridium's face was ashen, and he remained silent, simply directing the remaining beasts to defend themselves. His beast had been severely injured by the giant beast earlier and had not yet recovered, its strength greatly diminished.
"My beast is seriously injured and needs time to recover!" Jin Yi finally couldn't help but retort.
“This is a matter of life and death, there’s no time for you to recover! You’re just being cowardly!” The Mercury Envoy refused to back down.
“You…” Jin Yi trembled with anger, yet he was powerless to refute. He truly dared not commit himself fully to the battle, for he was afraid of losing his tamed beast once again.
"Shut up!" I shouted, stopping their argument. "Staying infighting now will only benefit that beast!"
My gaze swept over everyone, and my tone was heavy: "I know you are all scared and exhausted, but we must unite now in order to survive!"
However, my words had little effect. The conflict between the Messenger of Iridium and the Messenger of Mercury had intensified, and their supporters had begun to accuse each other, creating a tense atmosphere.
Just then, the dark behemoth let out another deafening roar, stomping its foot so that the ground trembled violently. I felt a powerful force surging from the ground, and an ominous premonition welled up in my heart.
"Watch your step!" I shouted.
The ground suddenly cracked open, revealing a huge black fissure from which a nauseating black gas spewed forth…
The black gas writhed like a living thing, emitting a nauseating stench. I held my breath and pulled Su Yao back. The ground continued to crack, more black fissures appearing, forming a giant black spiderweb.
"What the hell is this?!" Jin Yi cried out in terror, his face ashen. His tamed beast, already severely injured, trembled even more, too afraid to approach the black cracks.
"Be careful! These cracks are traps!" Jinbo strategist shouted a warning. Although he lacked the ability to control beasts, his extensive knowledge and experience allowed him to quickly assess the danger posed by these black cracks.
No sooner had he finished speaking than a thallium warrior who had been standing too close lost his footing and fell into the black crevice. After a scream, there was no more sound.
"Ah!" the gold-plated boy exclaimed, his face turning deathly pale with fright.
This sudden turn of events exacerbated the already chaotic situation. The behemoth's attack not only caused direct damage but also altered the surrounding environment, plunging us into an even more dangerous predicament.
"Watch your step, everyone! Don't go near those cracks!" I shouted a warning, while gripping Su Yao's hand tightly and cautiously observing our surroundings. Su Yao was also pressed close to me, her palms sweaty; I could feel her tension.
The beast roared again, seemingly quite pleased with our predicament. Its massive body moved through the black rifts with ease, while we could only cautiously dodge the deadly traps.
"This won't do, we'll be trapped here and die!" the Mercury Messenger said anxiously.
“We must find a way out!” I said in a deep voice. My eyes swept across the surrounding terrain, hoping to find a safe path.
"Over there!" Su Yao suddenly pointed in a direction and said, "There doesn't seem to be a crack there!"
I looked in the direction she was pointing and sure enough, I saw a relatively intact area behind the giant beast, which seemed to be unaffected by the black cracks.
"Okay! Let's go there!" I made a snap decision, grabbing Su Yao and running in that direction. The Platinum Strategist, the Gold Youth, and the Mercury Envoy followed closely behind. Yi hesitated for a moment, but ultimately chose to come along. He knew that staying here would only lead to certain death.
We dodged the cracks in the ground and the attacks of the behemoth as we made our way towards our target area. The behemoth seemed to sense our intentions; it let out an angry roar and pounced on us.
"Watch out!" I shoved Su Yao aside and at the same time summoned my beast to block the giant beast.
My tamed beast collided violently with the giant beast, producing a deafening roar. Although my tamed beast was powerful, it was still somewhat powerless against this ferocious beast.
Just then, I felt a powerful force emanating from the giant beast, and the black aura around it became even more intense. An ominous premonition welled up in my heart.
"Oh no! It's going to..." My face changed drastically.
