Chapter 383 Deepening Rescue Efforts
I released Su Yao's waist and turned to walk back onto the platform. In the plaza, some of the beast tamers had vacant eyes, some whispered among themselves, and most remained in a numb silence. The metal-clad beast tamer stood at the front of the crowd, arms crossed, his face filled with disdain. I took a deep breath, knowing this mobilization was crucial.
“I know,” my voice echoed across the square, “I know many of you are disheartened, feeling this final battle is meaningless, even believing we are doomed to defeat.” My gaze swept over the dejected faces, settling on the metal-clad beast tamers, “but I want to ask you, what were your initial motivations for becoming beast tamers?”
The square remained silent, save for the sound of the wind rustling the flags.
I raised my voice, "Is it to protect the weak? Is it to pursue power? Or is it to protect our common home?" My voice trembled slightly, a tremor born of deep emotion, "Think of the excitement you felt when you first formed a contract with a beast, think of the joy you felt when you first defeated a powerful enemy! Have you forgotten all of that?"
My words were like a pebble thrown into a calm lake, creating ripples. Some beast tamers began to raise their heads, a hint of confusion flashing in their eyes.
I pressed my advantage and continued, "Since ancient times, beast tamers have shouldered the mission of protecting the world. Our ancestors fought against powerful ferocious beasts, exchanging their blood and lives for the peace we enjoy today! And now, the enemy has invaded again. Are we going to abandon everything that our ancestors protected with their lives?"
I walked to the edge of the platform and looked down at the crowd. "I know this war is brutal. We may lose many of our comrades, or even..." I paused, "or even our own lives! But we cannot back down! Because we are Beastmasters! We are Guardians!"
My words were like flames, igniting the passion in the hearts of some beast tamers. I saw a young speaker step forward and shout, "That's right! We are beast tamers! We cannot back down!"
His voice resonated with many, and more and more beast tamers clenched their fists, their eyes rekindling with hope. A young man from the metallurgical class—I remembered him losing loved ones in a previous attack—also clenched his fists. Though tears still lingered in his eyes, they were no longer filled with despair, but with unwavering resolve.
I saw the metal-lacquer drummer walk to a huge war drum, take a deep breath, and raise his drumsticks. Thump! Thump! Thump! The drumbeats were like thunder, deafening, each strike resonating in everyone's heart. The metal-lacquer messenger, whose shoulders had been drooping, straightened up, his eyes filled with determination.
The atmosphere in the square gradually became more lively, and I felt a warm current welling up in my heart. I knew that my words had had an effect.
However, at that moment, the Beast Tamer sneered and said, "That sounds nice! It's all empty talk! Real combat is the key! Can what you're saying stop the enemy's attacks?"
His words were like a bucket of cold water poured over them, and some of the beast tamers whose hopes had just been rekindled began to waver again… My gaze met his, and sparks seemed to fly in the air. “Empty words?” I repeated his words, my tone low and forceful, “Then let me tell you what the real…”
"Empty words?" I repeated his words, my voice low and powerful. "Then let me tell you what true power is!" I pointed to the beast tamers whose fighting spirit had been rekindled. "Do you see them? Do you see the flame that has been rekindled in their eyes? This is power! This is the true power of us beast tamers! It doesn't come from powerful beasts, nor from advanced skills, but from the deepest belief in our hearts—the belief in protecting our homeland!"
My voice echoed across the square, resounding with conviction. I saw Su Yao watching me with worry from below the stage, her lips slightly parted, her charming expression conveying her deep affection for me to all the beast tamers around us. Her worry strengthened my resolve; I could not let her down, nor could I let down all those who believed in me.
The Beastmaster sneered, "Belief? Ridiculous! Before absolute power, belief is utterly worthless! You think you can change the course of the battle with just a few impassioned words? How naive!"
“That’s right, belief alone cannot change the course of the battle,” I admitted, “but it can change us! It can make us more united, more courageous, and more determined! It can enable us to fight to the last moment without fear or retreat when facing a powerful enemy!” I took a step forward, staring intently at the Beastmaster of the Metal-Pierced Beast, “Are you afraid? Are you afraid that we will unite, afraid that we will rekindle our fighting spirit, afraid that we will unleash a power you cannot imagine!”
His expression changed, a flicker of panic crossing his eyes, but he quickly masked it, forcing a calm demeanor as he said, "I'm scared? What a joke! I just don't want to see you all die in vain!"
"Sending ourselves to our deaths?" I raised my voice. "We are protecting our homeland, our loved ones, everything we cherish! How is this sending ourselves to our deaths? It is an honor!" My gaze swept over everyone in the square. "We may die in battle, but we will never surrender! We would rather die standing than live on our knees!"
My words resonated with the beast tamers in the square, who shouted, "We'd rather die standing than live kneeling!" Even the beast tamers who had been silent until now were moved, their eyes shining with determination.
The beast tamer was stunned by this aura. His face turned ashen, and he opened his mouth but couldn't utter a word for a long time. He looked around and found that the beast tamers who had originally supported him were now turning to me, their eyes filled with hope and trust.
I saw the speaker walk up to me, and he excitedly shook my hand, saying, "Nong Yu, you're right! We can't give up hope! We must fight to the end!"
The tungsten boy also came over. He wiped away his tears and said firmly, "I will avenge my family! I will fight alongside you!"
Even the metal-rhenium drummers struck their war drums once more, the sound even more stirring and inspiring. The metal-osmium envoy straightened his back, his eyes filled with a sense of mission, as if he could already see the dawn of victory.
I took a deep breath, feeling a powerful surge within me. I knew I had won the debate; I had won hearts and minds. I looked at the pale-faced beast tamer and slowly said, "Now, do you still think my words are empty promises?"
His lips trembled, his eyes flickered, and finally, he lowered his head and said in a hoarse voice, "I..."
