Chapter 374
I grabbed Su Yao's wrist, stopping her from touching the rune. "Wait, something feels off." A strange chill emanated from the rune, making me instinctively sense danger.
Su Yao looked at me with a puzzled expression: "What's wrong?"
I shook my head, unable to explain the feeling, and simply said, "Better safe than sorry, let's wrap it in a cloth before we take it away."
We found a clean cloth, carefully wrapped the rune, and then rushed to the thulium researcher's laboratory.
The thulium researcher took the rune, put on special gloves, and began to examine it carefully. His brows furrowed more and more, and his expression grew increasingly solemn.
“This rune…” He pondered for a moment, then said in a solemn tone, “It retains the aura of dark forces, and I also discovered a special energy fluctuation, which seems to indicate that some kind of evil power has been injected into the Beastmaster’s abilities.”
"An evil force?" My heart sank; this discovery confirmed my suspicions.
“Yes,” the thulium researcher nodded, “this power is very strange, I’ve never seen it before. It seems to be able to distort the abilities of beast tamers, making them violent and out of control.”
"What should we do then?" Su Yao asked anxiously. "Is there any way to solve this?"
The thulium researcher shook his head and said helplessly, "I don't know where to start yet. I've never encountered this kind of power before, and I need more time to study it."
Just then, a commotion arose outside the laboratory. We rushed out and saw that the beast tamer's transformation had become even more severe. His beast, a once docile giant bear, now had bloodshot eyes and was frantically attacking the people and beasts around him.
The crowd scattered in terror, creating chaos. The Yttrium messenger tried desperately to calm things down, but his words seemed to go unheard. Fear was palpable, and a tense atmosphere permeated the air.
The strategist pushed his way to the front of the crowd and shouted, "Quick, use tranquilizers! Let's subdue that giant bear first!"
"No!" I immediately stopped him. "Sedatives are ineffective against this mutation; they'll only enrage it and make things worse!"
"Then what do you suggest we do?" the strategist asked, glaring at me with displeasure. "Are we just going to stand by and watch it continue to hurt people?"
I took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. The situation was extremely critical; I had to come up with a solution as soon as possible.
Su Yao walked to my side and gently took my hand. Her eyes were firm and full of trust, as if telling me that she believed I would definitely find a solution.
I held her hand in return, feeling the warmth of her palm, and a surge of strength welled up inside me.
“Envoy of Yttrium,” I said in a deep voice, “please evacuate the crowd immediately and take them to a safe place.”
Then, I turned to look at Su Yao, a resolute glint in my eyes: "Let's go!" Su Yao gripped my hand tightly; I could feel the warmth of her palm and its slight tremor. Panic and screams surged around us like a tidal wave. The giant bear of the Beastmaster was still wreaking havoc, the air thick with dust and the stench of blood. Yet, amidst this chaos, Su Yao's gaze remained unusually calm, a steadfast trust that seemed to tell me that no matter what happened, she would stand by my side. This silent support flowed into my heart like a warm current, dispelling my anxiety and fear, and giving me an unprecedented sense of strength.
I took a deep breath and stroked the head of my contracted beast—the Howling Moon Wolf. It let out a low whimper, its golden pupils reflecting my resolute face. "Howling Moon, we need your power," I whispered. The Howling Moon Wolf responded with a long howl, its spiritual connection with mine surging into my body. My senses were instantly amplified, everything around me becoming crystal clear. I entered a special state of perception, sharing power with Howling Moon. The surrounding noise seemed to be blocked by a thin membrane, and the world appeared to me as an ocean of energy fluctuations.
The beast tamer was enveloped in raging black energy, like churning ink, relentlessly eroding everything around him. Yet, within this darkness, I sensed a faint, distinctly different energy fluctuation, like a twinkling star hidden deep within the darkness. This energy fluctuation was gentle and pure, a stark contrast to the rage of the dark power, and it seemed capable of neutralizing its corrosive influence. Could… this be the key to resolving the anomaly?
I strained to concentrate, trying to pinpoint the source of this energy fluctuation. It appeared and disappeared, elusive and unpredictable; it felt like a lifeline, yet I couldn't grasp its essence. Time ticked by, and the beast tamer's situation worsened. His giant bear had begun attacking the innocent boy. I had to find the source of this energy as soon as possible!
"Nong Yu, how are you?" Su Yao's voice, tinged with worry, pulled me back from my highly focused state. I opened my eyes and saw her concerned gaze, a warm feeling welling up inside me.
“I’ve found an energy fluctuation that could potentially neutralize the dark forces,” I said firmly, pointing in the direction of the Erbium Beastmaster, “but its source is still uncertain, and I need to enter a state of perception again.”
Su Yao nodded, saying nothing more, but gripped my hand even tighter, offering silent support. I closed my eyes again, concentrating my mental energy to its limit, trying to re-enter that special state of perception, wanting to delve deeper into the source of that energy fluctuation. However, there were too many interfering factors around me: the screams of the crowd, the roar of the giant bear, and the desperate cries of the Yitian Messenger—all like barriers, hindering my perception… “Damn it…” I cursed under my breath.
