Chapter 352 A Turning Point for Proving Floating Proof
The commotion outside the hall grew louder, punctuated by a few gasps, and my heart leaped into my throat. Su Yao maintained her enigmatic smile, as if everything was under her control. Jin Xi, on the other hand, watched with disdain, arms crossed, seemingly convinced that Su Yao was bluffing.
"You're just making things complicated!" he scoffed.
Although I trust Su Yao, I can't help but feel uneasy. Could our neighboring country really be hostile towards us? If Su Yao can't produce evidence, wouldn't all our previous efforts have been in vain?
Just then, a soldier covered in blood stumbled in. He was pale and breathing rapidly. Pointing to the door, he shouted, "Report...report! Envoy Jinda...he...he's been captured!"
"What?!" The hall erupted in chaos. The envoy from Jinda was responsible for conveying the attitudes of all parties towards the amnesty, and his arrest was undoubtedly a bombshell.
"Who arrested him?" I asked hurriedly.
The soldier stammered, "They...they're from the neighboring country! They...they even took everything from the Jinda envoy!"
My heart sank. Could what Su Yao said be true? Is there really another conspiracy in the neighboring country?
Su Yao's gaze swept over the crowd as she slowly said, "I told you, I have evidence." She took out a scroll from her sleeve and slowly unfurled it. The scroll was made of a special material, densely covered with writing, and stamped with the seal of a neighboring country.
"What is this?" Jinxi couldn't help but ask.
Su Yao's lips curled slightly as she pointed to the scroll and said, "This is something I stole from the Jinda envoy... no, I 'borrowed' it." She emphasized the word "borrowed," a sly glint in her eyes. "This clearly records the transactions between the neighboring country and the Dark Lord."
My breathing quickened as I stared intently at the scroll, as if trying to etch every word into my mind. It read: "After the Beast Taming Clan surrenders, enslave them all to mine ore and forge weapons for neighboring countries..."
"This...this is impossible!" Jinxi's face turned deathly pale. He snatched the scroll and examined it closely. The hall was utterly silent; you could hear a pin drop. Everyone held their breath, awaiting Jinxi's final judgment.
After a long while, Jinxi slumped down and put the scroll down, his face filled with shock and despair. He muttered to himself, "How could this be... how could this be..."
Su Yao's voice rang out again, clear and firm: "Now, do you believe me?"
Elder Jinhei walked over shakily, took the scroll, examined it carefully, and then sighed, saying, "Alas, it seems we've all been deceived..."
Just then, a figure slowly walked in from outside the door. He was wearing a black robe and had a sinister smile on his face.
"This scroll is fake," he said calmly.
The tense atmosphere in the hall was instantly shattered by the sudden sound, and everyone's attention was focused on the man in black standing at the door. He was thin, pale, and his narrow eyes gleamed with an unsettling light. I recognized him; he was the Dark Lord's envoy for appeasement—Strategist Bobo.
"Fake?" Su Yao sneered. "What evidence do you have to prove it's fake?"
The strategist, Bo, strode to the center of the hall, a confident smile on his face: "The seal on this scroll is indeed from a neighboring country, but that doesn't mean it's genuine. Perhaps someone deliberately forged it to sabotage our cooperation."
"Forgery?" Su Yao retorted. "The material of this scroll is special; only the royal family of the neighboring country can use it. Moreover, the handwriting on it is the personal handwriting of the prime minister of the neighboring country. How do you explain that?"
"What's so difficult about that?" Jinbo strategist smiled contemptuously. "Anything can be forged if you set your mind to it. Besides, how did you obtain this scroll? As far as I know, the Jinda envoy always keeps it close to his body. How did you 'borrow' it?"
His words were like a sharp knife, aimed directly at Su Yao's vitals. My heart tightened, and I gripped Su Yao's hand tightly. She sensed my tension, turned around, and gave me a reassuring look.
“I have my own methods,” Su Yao replied calmly. “But the problem now is not how I obtained it, but whether the contents of this scroll are true. Instead of worrying about how I got it, you should think about how to interpret its contents.”
Strategist Jin Bo was momentarily speechless; he hadn't expected Su Yao to be so calm. His eyes flickered, as if he were considering a solution. The atmosphere in the hall tensed up again; everyone held their breath, awaiting the outcome of the debate.
I gently pulled Su Yao into my arms and whispered in her ear, "You're so smart, you almost scared me."
A blush rose on Su Yao's face. She nestled gently in my arms and whispered, "I just don't want everyone to be deceived."
Strategist Bo took a deep breath and spoke again: "Even if this scroll is real, so what? It only proves that there is cooperation between the neighboring country and the Dark Lord, not that they will be hostile to us. Perhaps they just want to join forces against other forces, and we are just their allies."
His words seemed reasonable and well-founded, but were full of loopholes. Su Yao was about to retort, but I stopped her. I looked at Strategist Bo and said slowly, "You're right, this doesn't completely prove they'll be hostile to us. However," I paused, emphasizing my words, "this is enough to make us more vigilant. We can't entrust our fate to the promises of others; we need to take control of our own destiny."
My words resonated with many people in the hall, who nodded in agreement. Elder Jinhei also pondered for a moment and said, "Nong Yu is right, we cannot let our guard down."
Jinbo's expression turned somewhat ugly. He hadn't expected me to suddenly interrupt and disrupt his rhythm. He stared intently at me, his eyes filled with resentment.
"Hmph," he sneered, "you'll regret this sooner or later." With that, he turned and swept away, his black figure disappearing into the night.
The Beast Tamer remained silent, clutching the scroll tightly, his eyes flickering uncertainly. He glanced at me, then at Su Yao, before finally fixing his gaze on the scroll, muttering to himself, "Is...this real...?" He slowly folded the scroll and tucked it into his robes...
