Beast Taming Star Journey
Chapter 258 Hui Jie reveals, first encounter with the strategist
The Di Envoy leaned weakly against me, his breath faint. His trembling finger pointed to the runes on the stone gate that shimmered with an eerie green light, and he uttered with difficulty, "The Sealed...Gate...Be careful..."
The Sealed Gate? My heart sank, and an ominous premonition surged within me. The stone gate exuded an eerie aura, and the runes wriggled like living things, sending chills down my spine.
The sounds of Su Yao's battle with the holmium guards behind me gradually faded away, but the silence of the passage only made me more uneasy. I had to open this door as soon as possible!
I took a deep breath, gently placed the Di Envoy on the ground, and then carefully examined the runes on the stone gate. I had never seen these runes before, and their arrangement was chaotic, seemingly containing some kind of mysterious power.
I tentatively reached out and touched one of the runes.
The moment my fingertips touched her, a strong electric current instantly spread throughout my body. I jerked my hand back, my arm went numb, and the excruciating pain made me gasp.
"Damn it!" I cursed under my breath, shaking my numb arm.
These runes seem not only strange, but also to conceal traps. I dared not act rashly any longer and forced myself to calm down. I carefully observed the arrangement of the runes, hoping to find some pattern.
Although these runes appear to be chaotic, they seem to follow a certain pattern.
"Could it be..." A thought suddenly flashed through my mind, and my gaze fell on Little Gold, who was sleeping soundly on my shoulder—my first tamed beast, a little golden sable.
Although Little Gold is small in size, it possesses keen perception; perhaps it can sense the secrets of these runes. I gently awakened Little Gold and placed it on the stone door.
Little Jin opened his sleepy eyes and curiously examined the runes in front of him.
It stuck out its pink little tongue and licked one of the runes, then let out a soft "squeak." I was overjoyed; it seemed Little Gold really could sense these runes!
I carefully observed Xiao Jin's movements. It jumped on the stone gate, sometimes stopping on a rune, sometimes gently patting it with its little paws, as if it was trying something.
Suddenly, Xiao Jin stopped, his gaze fixed on an inconspicuous rune in the center of the stone gate.
It raised its head, looked at me, let out a clear chirp, and then pointed at the rune with its little paw. Could this be... the key?
A thought struck me, and I reached out my hand, slowly approaching the rune...
"Wait!" the Di messenger suddenly cried out weakly.
I stopped what I was doing and looked at the messenger.
"What's wrong?" He struggled to sit up, his face pale, and pointed at the rune, saying, "That...that's a trap...touching it...will cause...an explosion..."
An explosion?! I was startled and quickly withdrew my hand.
The Di Messenger explained weakly that the stone door was a trap set by the Dark Lord to prevent outsiders from intruding; touching certain runes would trigger a powerful explosion.
I gasped, thankful I hadn't acted rashly. But how could I open the stone door without touching the rune?
I looked at Little Gold again; it was still staring at the rune, its eyes gleaming. It seemed to be telling me that it had a way.
"Xiao Jin, do you know how to open this door?" I asked softly.
Little Jin nodded, then jumped onto my shoulder and gently patted my cheek with its little paws, as if to encourage me. I took a deep breath and decided to trust Little Jin.
I placed it on the stone gate again, and Little Gold began to leap between the runes. Its movements were light and agile, as if it were performing a mysterious dance.
Sometimes it would stop on a rune and gently touch it with its little paws, and sometimes it would circle around the rune, as if searching for something.
I held my breath, watching Xiao Jin's every move with bated breath. Time ticked by, and my heart pounded faster and faster.
Finally, Little Gold stopped. It stood on a rune in the center of the stone gate, raised its head, looked at me, and let out a clear cry.
I understand what it means; it has found the key to opening the stone door! Following Xiao Jin's instructions, I touched several specific runes in turn.
As the last rune was touched, the stone door creaked open with a dull thud. A chilling aura emanated from within, sending a shiver down my spine.
As soon as the stone door opened a crack, a group of dark figures rushed out!
"It's a dark puppet!" I was startled and quickly took a few steps back.
These dark golems are created using dark magic. They are lifeless but possess great strength and a tough body, making them powerful assistants to the Dark Lord.
Su Yao, having already dealt with the holmium guards, arrived at this moment. A glint of excitement flashed in her eyes as she saw the charging dark puppet.
"Just in time!" she shouted, and charged into the enemy ranks first.
Her figure moved like lightning, weaving through the dark puppets. Her longsword flashed, unleashing sharp sword energy that shredded each dark puppet into pieces.
I dared not slack off and commanded my other beast companions to join the battle.
Little Gold jumped off my shoulder, transforming into a golden ray of light, weaving among the dark puppets, tearing their bodies apart with its sharp claws.
Although the dark puppets were numerous, they were quickly routed by the combined efforts of Su Yao and me.
Just then, a cold voice came from inside the stone door: "I didn't expect you to be able to break my mechanism. You're quite capable."
An old man dressed in a black robe with a sinister face slowly walked out from inside the stone gate.
He held a black staff in his hand, with a gem that exuded an evil aura embedded at its tip.
"Who are you?" I asked warily.
“I am the Strategist, the Dark Lord’s advisor,” the old man said with a sinister smile. “It’s not easy for you to have come this far. However, your journey ends here.”
He raised his staff and pointed it at us, saying, "Let me show you what I'm capable of!"
Su Yao suddenly winked at me and chuckled, "Looks like another fierce battle is about to begin."
I clenched my fists, a surge of fighting spirit rising within me. Su Yao's alluring glance, amidst the flashing blades, struck my heart like lightning.
A warm current instantly flowed through his body, sweeping away the fatigue caused by the continuous battles and replacing it with endless power.
I feel like I can overcome anything, even if there's a bottomless abyss ahead, I can leap across it.
"Be careful, this old guy is cunning." Su Yao's voice carried a hint of concern, yet was also full of fighting spirit.
Her longsword danced like a dragon, slicing through the approaching dark puppets one by one. I nodded, and became even more cautious in controlling my beast companion.
Under my command, Xiao Jin transformed into a golden light, constantly harassing the strategist and preventing him from concentrating on casting spells.
The other companions also performed their respective duties, keeping the dark puppets that tried to approach us at bay.
The strategist's face grew increasingly grim; he clearly hadn't expected us to be so difficult to deal with.
He waved his staff, chanting incantations, and black energy waves shot out from the gem at the top of the staff with tremendous power.
Su Yao and I didn't dare to take the attack head-on, so we could only keep dodging.
"This can't go on; we must finish this quickly!" I thought to myself.
A prolonged battle would be disadvantageous for us; we must find a way to eliminate this strategist as soon as possible. I looked at Su Yao, my eyes questioning.
She seemed to have thought of this too, nodding slightly in agreement. We exchanged a glance and tacitly changed our tactics.
Su Yao was responsible for drawing the strategist's attention, while I looked for an opportunity to deliver a fatal blow.
Su Yao's movements became even more agile. Like a butterfly dancing gracefully, she weaved through the gaps between the dark puppets and energy waves, constantly provoking the strategist.
Enraged by Su Yao, the strategist abandoned his defense and focused all his power on attack.
Black energy waves poured out like a torrential rain, engulfing everything around them. Just then, I saw an opportunity.
The strategist, in his all-out attack, revealed an opening. I took a deep breath and concentrated all my strength on Xiao Jin.
"Xiao Jin, now's the time!" I shouted.
Xiao Jin transformed into a golden bolt of lightning, instantly rushing towards the strategist. The strategist seemed to sense the danger and tried to dodge, but it was too late.
Little Gold's sharp claws slammed into the strategist's chest, splattering blood everywhere. The strategist let out a scream and staggered backward.
He clutched his chest, his eyes filled with terror and resentment. "Cough cough..." He coughed violently, black blood spilling from the corner of his mouth.
I was just about to deliver the final blow when I saw him suddenly throw out a black smoke grenade.
"Oh no!" I thought to myself and quickly covered my mouth and nose.
Thick black smoke instantly billowed out, obscuring my vision. When the smoke cleared, the strategist had vanished without a trace.
"Damn it! He got away!" I punched the wall in frustration.
"Don't worry, he can't have gone far," Su Yao's voice came from behind me.
We followed the direction the strategist had fled. We had just passed through a passage when a chilling aura swept over us.
I looked up and saw a huge gear mechanism in front of me, with a dangerous aura emanating from the surroundings...
“Be careful…” Su Yao’s voice was low and solemn.
