Beast Taming Star Journey

Chapter 24: Exploring the ruins, surrounded by dangers

I slowly approached the cave entrance deep in the valley, and a chilling aura rushed towards me, making me shiver.

The entrance to the cave is hidden by dense vines, and it is difficult to find its existence without careful observation.

Pushing aside the vines, a dark hole appeared before me, like the gaping maw of a giant beast, seemingly ready to devour everything.

I took a deep breath, lit a torch, and carefully stepped into the cave. The cave was pitch black, with only the faint light of the torch illuminating a small area around me.

A damp, rotten smell filled the air, making me feel very uncomfortable. The surroundings were eerily quiet; only my own breathing and heartbeat echoed.

I walked forward cautiously, taking each step with extra care. The cave floor was uneven, and there were puddles in some places, so I had to watch my step constantly to avoid slipping.

After walking for about fifteen minutes, I suddenly came across a stone gate. The stone gate was carved with some strange patterns that looked like some kind of ancient script.

I examined the patterns closely, trying to find some clues. Suddenly, I noticed that one of the patterns seemed to be able to rotate.

I tried to twist it gently, and with a "click," a stone slab on the stone door suddenly moved away, revealing a hidden button.

Overjoyed, I quickly pressed the button. With a rumbling sound, the stone door slowly opened, revealing a new passage.

I carried the torch inside and found that at the end of the passage was a small stone chamber. In the center of the chamber was a stone platform, on which sat an exquisite wooden box.

I walked quickly to the stone platform and opened the wooden box. Inside, I saw a stone emitting a faint glow.

I picked up the stone and examined it closely. I found that the stone felt warm to the touch, its surface was smooth like jade, and it faintly emitted a strange energy fluctuation.

"What is this?" I wondered to myself. Could this be the treasure in this ruin? At that moment, I felt the little beast beside me also become excited.

It circled me a few times, emitting soft chirps, as if urging me to quickly put the stone away. I put the stone in my pocket, my heart filled with joy.

This unexpected discovery greatly boosted my confidence and strengthened my resolve to continue exploring this site. I continued forward, the passage winding and twisting, its destination unknown.

Suddenly, I felt a tremor beneath my feet, and the walls of the cave began to shake slightly.

"What's going on?" I was startled and immediately stopped in my tracks.

"Watch out!" Su Yao suddenly warned me. Almost at the same time, I heard a "crackling" sound from above.

When I looked up, I saw cracks appearing on the ceiling of the cave, and huge rocks were teetering on the verge of collapsing.

"Oh no, this place is going to collapse!" I shouted in my heart and immediately turned around and ran.

"Hurry up!" Su Yao followed closely behind.

We ran for our lives, boulders crashing down behind us with deafening roars. My heart felt like it was going to jump out of my chest; the shadow of death loomed over me…

"Wait..." Su Yao suddenly grabbed my sleeve and pointed to a hidden corner ahead, saying, "It looks like there..." The place Su Yao was pointing to was a narrow crevice in the rock, almost blending into the surrounding rock wall, and it was difficult to notice without careful observation.

"Go in!" She made a quick decision, pushing me inside and then slipping in herself.

Almost the instant we ducked into the crevice, the passage behind us collapsed completely, boulders rolled down, and the entrance was completely blocked. The crevice was pitch black; you couldn't see your hand in front of your face.

I fumbled to light the tinderbox, and the faint light illuminated the cramped space, barely allowing the two of us to stand sideways.

Before I could even catch my breath, a deep humming sound came from all directions, and the ground began to tremble slightly.

"Oh no, the guardians of the ruins have been alerted!" Su Yao's expression turned grave.

The buzzing sound grew louder and louder, and fine sand began to fall from the top of the crack in the rock, as if something was moving about on it.

Suddenly, a stone slab flipped over from the top, revealing a dark hole. Immediately afterwards, a foul-smelling wind, accompanied by a sharp whooshing sound, swept in!

I instinctively shrank back, barely dodging the attack, but still crashed into the stone wall behind me.

By the light of the fire, I saw a gleaming metal spike shoot out of the cave entrance and embed itself deeply into the opposite stone wall.

"Be careful, these mechanisms are triggered in a chain!" Su Yao warned, drawing her longsword from her waist to deflect another spike aimed at me.

We were trapped in this narrow crevice, becoming sitting ducks! The buzzing continued, and the stone slabs above us kept flipping, shooting out all sorts of hidden weapons: spikes, poison needles, darts... While dodging the attacks of the traps, I observed my surroundings, trying to find a way to escape.

Suddenly, I noticed a loose brick at the bottom of the crack.

"Su Yao, cover me!" I roared and kicked the stone brick hard.

The stone bricks shattered, revealing a dark hole. Without hesitation, I jumped down, and Su Yao followed closely behind.

We fell into a new passage, and the attacks from the traps temporarily ceased. But I knew this was only a temporary respite.

At the end of the passage, a tall figure slowly emerged, his entire body encased in metal armor, holding a massive battle axe in his hand, radiating a suffocating aura of power.

The Guardian of the Ruins! It slowly raised its battle axe, pointing it at us. Two red lights flickered in the hollow of its helmet, like a gaze from hell.

My attacks were almost ineffective against it; I could only barely defend myself thanks to Su Yao's powerful swordsmanship. But I knew this couldn't go on; we had to find the core area of the ruins.

While dodging the guardian's attacks, I observed my surroundings, searching for any possible clues.

I discovered that while the Guardian's attacks are powerful, they follow a certain pattern, and it seems to be confined to this area and unable to leave.

A daring idea popped into my head. I began to deliberately guide the guardian to attack the walls on both sides of the passage, using mechanisms to deplete its power.

My plan worked. The Guardian's attack triggered more mechanisms, and traps sprang up all over the passage. Even the Guardian himself was affected.

I felt myself getting closer and closer to the core area of the ruins, but the danger was also increasing... Suddenly, I saw a huge stone gate in front of me, covered with complex runes and emitting a faint golden light.

"The core area!" I was overjoyed and was about to rush over when I heard Su Yao exclaim, "Nong Yu, watch out!" I turned around sharply and saw... a huge stone slab falling from above...
