Beast Taming Star Journey

Chapter 22 Entering the Mountains to Tame Beasts, First Battle of Brilliance

I took a deep breath and stepped into the Monster Mountain Range.

The dense shade of the trees blocked out the sun, with only dappled sunlight filtering through. The air was filled with the scent of damp earth, mixed with the fragrance of unknown herbs.

The surroundings were eerily quiet, broken only by the occasional bird calls.

Professor Sun only explained the meeting place and time before leaving in a hurry. His words "Be careful" echoed in my ears, adding to the unknown fear deep in the mountains.

This map only marks the general terrain and some dangerous areas; the rest I have to explore on my own.

I released the little animal, which nuzzled against my leg affectionately before cautiously looking around.

The little beast was my first and only tamed beast companion. It resembled a cheetah but was more agile. Its body was covered with blue scales that shimmered with a metallic luster in the sunlight.

I stroked its head, and a warm current flowed from my palm into its body. This was the unique connection between us, and also a manifestation of my beast-taming ability—an equal contract.

I can sense its emotions, and it can understand my intentions. We share strength and advance and retreat together.

After walking for about an hour, the surroundings remained quiet, and the oppressive atmosphere made it hard for me to breathe.

Suddenly, the bushes shook, and a wild boar with tusks darted out. Its body was covered with coarse bristles, and its two tusks gleamed coldly as it charged straight at me.

"Little beast, wind blade!" I whispered.

The small beast flashed forward, pouncing on the tusked wild boar with lightning speed.

Instead of attacking the wild boar's tusks directly, it circled around to its side, its sharp claws drawing a blue arc in the air, instantly creating a wind blade that struck the wild boar's throat.

"Awooo—" The tusked boar let out a miserable cry, and its massive body crashed to the ground.

I stepped forward and skillfully used my dagger to extract the boar's magic core. The core emitted a faint earthy yellow light, making it a decent loot.

It seems the first gain from the practical training came easier than expected. I put away the magic core, patted the little beast's head, and it wagged its tail excitedly.

This is just the beginning. I believe that there are many more challenges and opportunities waiting for me deep in the Monster Mountain Range.

Just as I was about to continue, a commotion arose in the distance.

I looked in the direction of the sound and saw several students in college uniforms walking towards me. One of them was Chen, the student I had clashed with in the college before.

He was accompanied by a massive rock bear, which strutted around arrogantly, as if the mountain range were his own territory.

When Chen saw me, a contemptuous smile appeared on his face... He stopped in front of me, and the giant rock bear blocked my way.

"Hey, isn't this Nong Yu? You've already hunted a tusked wild boar so quickly? Not bad luck." Chen saw me and gave me a disdainful smile.

He stopped in front of me, and the giant rock bear blocked my way.

"Hey, isn't this Nong Yu? You've already hunted a tusked wild boar so quickly? Not bad luck." He said sarcastically, his tone full of jealousy.

I didn't want to get entangled with him, so I replied casually, "Luck is also a part of ability."

As I was saying this, I tried to walk around him and continue on my way.

“Wait,” Chen reached out to stop me, “Are you just leaving like this? Without leaving anything behind?” A sinister glint flashed in his eyes.

I know what he means; he just wants to steal my spoils or teach me a lesson.

I gripped the dagger tightly, and the little beast let out a low growl, ready to fight at any moment.

"What do you want to do?" I asked coldly.

"It's nothing, I just wanted to have a friendly competition with you," Chen said with a forced smile, "to see who has better luck."

No sooner had he finished speaking than the giant rock bear pounced on me, its massive paws whistling as they slammed into my chest.

"Little beast, dodge!" I shouted. The little beast reacted quickly and nimbly dodged the rock bear's attack.

It was agile and moved around the giant bear, looking for an opportunity to attack.

"Rock Bear, Crush!" Chen gave the order again.

The giant rock bear leaped with its heavy body and slammed heavily to the ground, causing the ground to shake violently and nearly knocking the little beast over.

My heart sank. The rock bear's defense was extremely high, and its strength far surpassed that of the small beast. I would definitely be no match for it in a head-on confrontation. I had to find its weakness.

I carefully observed the rock bear's movements and found that although its attacks were powerful, they were relatively slow, and its eyes seemed to be its weak point.

"Little beast, feign an attack on its left side, then attack its eyes!" I quickly made the judgment.

The little beast understood immediately and pounced on the left side of the rock bear. As expected, the rock bear fell for the trick and clumsily turned around to chase after the little beast.

Just then, the little beast suddenly changed direction and rushed towards the rock bear's eyes at an astonishing speed. "Wind Blade!" I whispered again.

A cyan wind blade struck the rock bear precisely in the eye. The rock bear let out a painful roar, its massive body staggering backward before finally crashing to the ground.

Chen's face turned ashen; he never expected that his proud rock bear would be defeated by my little beast.

He glared at me fiercely, then slunk away with the injured rock bear.

As I watched them walk away, I felt little joy in victory. I knew this was just the beginning.

In this Monster Mountain Range, there are many more powerful monsters and malicious people like Chen. I must always be vigilant.

I continued deeper into the mountains, and darkness gradually fell. I found a secluded valley and prepared to rest.

The little beast suddenly became unusually excited, sniffing the air incessantly as it ran deeper into the valley.

I felt a sense of unease; something seemed to be lurking in this valley… “Little beast, wait for me!”
