Beast Taming Star Journey

Chapter 21: Initial Stability, Hidden Crisis

The night outside the window was as dark as ink, and a crescent moon, like a silver coin hanging on a black curtain, emitted a cold light.

The little animal's unusual behavior made me uneasy. It was curled up in my arms, breathing weakly, and its scales had lost their former luster, appearing dull and lifeless.

I gently stroked its head, trying to comfort it with my body heat, but it only trembled slightly and remained asleep.

"Knock knock knock..." A soft knock on the door broke the silence of the room.

I looked up alertly and asked, "Who is it?" "It's me, Nong Yu, Zhang's roommate," came a familiar voice from outside the door.

I opened the door, and my roommate Zhang was standing outside with a worried look on his face.

"I heard some noise in your room, so I came to check. Are you alright?" I shook my head and said, trying to sound calm, "I'm fine, it's just that the little beast isn't feeling well."

Zhang's roommate walked in, glanced at the sleeping little animal, and asked with concern, "What's wrong with it? It looks very weak."

I sighed and told him about the little beast's unusual behavior. My roommate Zhang frowned, pondered for a moment, and then said, "I heard that some upperclassmen in the academy have recently been researching a secret technique for controlling beasts. Could it be…?"

His words sent a chill down my spine. Could the little beast's abnormality be related to those older students?

I tried hard to recall what had happened recently, and some details that I had previously overlooked gradually became clear.

A few days ago, I saw several upperclassmen talking furtively in the cafeteria. One of them had a hint of barely perceptible malice in his eyes.

I didn't pay attention at the time, but now I think they were probably plotting against me.

"We can't take this lightly; I need to investigate," I said in a deep voice.

My roommate Zhang looked at me with concern and advised, "Nongyu, those upperclassmen are all very strong. It's too dangerous for you to go alone. You should tell your advisor first."

I shook my head and declined his offer.

"If I rashly go to my supervisor without solid evidence, it will only make them more wary. I must investigate secretly and find evidence first."

My roommate Zhang tried to persuade me again, but I had already made up my mind. After seeing Zhang off, I checked the little animal's body again and still found nothing abnormal.

But I could feel the connection between it and me gradually weakening, as if an invisible force was interfering with us. The night grew deeper, and the room became eerily quiet.

I sat on the edge of the bed, holding the little animal's paws tightly, my heart filled with unease and anxiety.

Suddenly, I felt the little animal's paw twitch slightly. It seemed to be trying to wake up, but then it closed its eyes helplessly.

My heart tightened; a strong premonition told me that things were far more complicated than I had imagined.

I looked down at the little beast and whispered, "Don't be afraid, I will find the cause and heal you..."

Just then, I heard a slight noise outside the window. I jerked my head up and looked out, but all I saw was darkness… Someone was watching me!

The subtle noise outside the window, like a pebble thrown into a calm lake, stirred ripples in my heart. It was almost certain that someone was spying on me.

I gently put the little animal down, walked to the window, and casually glanced outside. The night was dark, and I couldn't see anything clearly, but the feeling of being watched lingered.

Back by the bed, I sat cross-legged, closed my eyes, and focused all my attention on connecting with the little animal.

The feeling of being disturbed was still there, but this time, I sensed something unusual.

This aura didn't completely suppress the little beast; it was more like a guide, an attempt to control it. And the little beast's consciousness, though weak, did not completely submit.

A thought struck me: perhaps I could use this to my advantage. I began to try to convey my will to the little beast through a contract, guiding it to resist the controlling force.

It was like a silent tug-of-war, and I was using my willpower to fight against that unknown controller. At first, the little beast's reaction was very weak, and it could hardly feel any change.

But I didn't give up. I tried again and again, guiding the animal each time. Gradually, I felt the little animal begin to respond.

It was no longer just passively accepting control, but began to try to resist. I increased the intensity of my guidance, continuously channeling my willpower into it.

The little beast's breathing gradually became steady, and its scales began to regain their luster. Finally, the little beast opened its eyes, which were filled with confusion.

I gently stroked its head and whispered, "It's alright, you're safe now."

The little animal nuzzled my hand and let out a soft growl, as if responding to my words. I knew it had broken free of my control. However, the peace didn't last long.

The next morning, a rapid knocking woke me up. I opened the door, and there stood an older student, his eyes full of defiance.

"So you're Nong Yu?" he asked arrogantly.

I recognized him; he was the student I'd been whispering about in the cafeteria that day. It seemed he was eager to cause me trouble.

“Yes, I am,” I answered calmly.

“I’ve heard your tamed beast is quite special,” he sneered, “but in front of me, it’s nothing.”

After saying that, he released his tamed beast, a huge tiger. The tiger let out a deafening roar and pounced on me.

I quickly released the small beast to fight the tiger. Although the small beast was not as big as the tiger, its speed and strength had been significantly improved through my special training.

It skillfully evaded the tiger's attacks and waited for an opportunity to counterattack. The battle became fierce from the very beginning.

Using the tables and chairs in the room as cover, I worked in perfect harmony with the little beast to thwart the tiger's deadly attacks time and time again.

Although tigers are powerful, they cannot unleash their full strength in confined spaces. However, I know this is only temporary.

The older student's face showed impatience. He clearly hadn't expected me to be so persistent.

He suddenly retracted the tiger, looked at me coldly, and said, "You're lucky today, but next time I won't let you off so easily."

After saying that, he turned and left. I knew that this battle was not over; the real challenge had just begun.

I must improve my abilities as quickly as possible to cope with the upcoming crisis. I took a deep breath and looked resolutely out the window.

It's time to leave the academy and seek greater power. I picked up my backpack, put the little beast back into my beast-taming space, pushed open the door, and strode out.

"Professor Sun, I'm ready," I said to a figure.

He stood at the academy gate, seemingly having waited for some time. He nodded, said nothing more, and simply handed me a map. "Warcraft Mountains, be careful."
