Beast Taming Star Journey

Chapter 164 Initial Effects of the Trial Revision: People's Hearts Gradually Turn Toward

Dean Tie left in a hurry, leaving only Professor Xi and me in the office. The air was so thick we could almost hear each other breathing. Professor Xi snorted coldly, his eyes full of mockery. "Young man, you're too naive. What do you think your little tricks can change? The academy's traditions aren't so easily shaken."

I took a deep breath, struggling to suppress my anger. "Professor Xi, reforms are meant to make the college better and give students a better future. Do you really want to see the college stagnate and ultimately be eliminated by the times?"

"Hmph, alarmist talk!" Professor Xi curled his lip in disdain. "The academy's teaching system has been in operation for hundreds of years. How dare a mere brat like you change it at will? I think you'd better give up on that idea!"

I didn't want to argue with him anymore, so I turned to leave. Just then, I heard hurried footsteps outside the door. Dean Tie had returned, his face grim and his forehead covered in fine beads of sweat.

"Some abnormalities have occurred at the experimental field..." His tone was heavy, as if foreshadowing something bad happening.

My heart sank, and a sense of foreboding washed over me. Had something gone wrong with the reform pilot program? Following Dean Tie to the experimental field, the scene before me shocked me.

The fields, which should have been teeming with life, are now a scene of devastation, with some young spiritual plants withered and fallen, as if their life force had been drained by some power.

The students watching were discussing among themselves, their faces filled with worry and doubt.

"How could this happen?" Dean Tie frowned, his gaze sweeping over everyone present. "Can anyone tell me what exactly happened?"

At this moment, a young teacher stepped forward. His face was pale, and his voice trembled as he said, "Dean, I... I don't know what happened. I followed Nong Yu's plan for cultivation, but..." He hesitated, seemingly afraid to continue.

My gaze shifted to the mercury administrator in charge of the experimental field. He kept his head down, silent, his eyes flickering, as if deliberately avoiding my gaze.

I walked over to a withered spiritual plant and squatted down to examine it closely. The soil was dry, and the roots of the plant had a peculiar grayish-white color, as if they had been eroded by some kind of toxin.

An uneasy thought flashed through my mind: could someone have deliberately sabotaged this? Over the next few days, I threw myself into the investigation.

I visited the students and teachers who participated in the pilot program, carefully inquired about every detail, and repeatedly tested the soil and medicinal plants in the experimental field.

Ultimately, I discovered a rare toxin remaining in the soil that could inhibit the growth of the plant and even cause it to die.

This discovery further convinced me that the anomalies in the experimental field were not accidental, but rather deliberately sabotaged. But who was it? And why would they do it?

The pilot program has shown initial success, with participating students demonstrating a significant improvement in their beast-taming skills.

The student, Nickel, excitedly approached me, recounting his progress and his aspirations for the future of beast taming.

Seeing his sparkling eyes filled my heart with hope and strength.

"Nongyu, your reform plan is really amazing! I feel that my beast is more closely connected to me now, and it has become more powerful!" Nickel student said excitedly, his face beaming with joy.

"This is just the beginning." I patted him on the shoulder, encouraging him. "I believe that as long as we persevere, we will definitely be able to change the academy and the future of the Beast Taming world!"

However, I hadn't anticipated that an even greater challenge awaited me... Su Yao walked to my side and whispered, "Nong Yu, I have a feeling something's not right. What about Professor Xi..."

Her voice stopped abruptly, and her gaze turned to the distance, where Professor Xi was talking with several students, a barely perceptible sneer on his face... After Su Yao accompanied me to inspect the pilot fields, the afterglow of the setting sun shone on her face, giving her a golden halo.

She gently wiped the sweat from my forehead, her eyes full of tenderness. "Nongyu, I'm so happy to see these students benefiting from your reforms."

I held her hand, feeling the warmth of her palm, and a surge of warmth welled up inside me. "This is just the beginning. I hope that one day, all beast tamers can break free from their old shackles and find a cultivation path that truly suits them."

Over the next few days, the pilot program progressed smoothly, with both the participating students and the spirit beasts showing remarkable improvement.

Nickel student became a pioneer of reform, actively promoting new training methods and sharing his experience with other students. Seeing his enthusiasm, I felt as if I saw the future hope of the Beast Taming world.

However, this period of peace was short-lived. I gradually noticed some unusual noises emerging in the academy.

Some students and teachers who were not involved in the pilot program began to publicly question the feasibility of the reform plan, and some even spread rumors that the new training methods would harm the health of the spirit beasts.

"I heard that the spiritual plants in the experimental field have all withered. This new method simply won't work!"

"Yes, I see that the students who participated in the pilot program are all exhausted, and their spirit beasts have become restless."

These rumors spread rapidly like weeds, and the atmosphere in the college became tense.

I realized that someone was secretly obstructing the reforms, and that person was very likely Professor Xi.

That evening, as I was about to return to my dorm, Su Yao suddenly called out to me. "Nong Yu, haven't you noticed that the atmosphere in the college has been a bit strange lately?"

I nodded. "I sensed it too. Someone's up to no good behind the scenes."

“I suspect it’s Professor Xi,” Su Yao said with a hint of worry. “He has always opposed your reform plan, and I’ve seen him getting very close to some students and teachers who are dissatisfied with the reform recently.”

My heart sank. Professor Xi's influence was not to be underestimated. If he really wanted to obstruct the reform, it would be a huge challenge.

“We need evidence.” I took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. “We can’t let him continue to cause trouble.”

Over the next few days, I began a covert investigation, gathering evidence of Professor Xi's crimes. I discovered that the students and teachers who spread the rumors all had close ties with Professor Xi, and that the so-called "evidence" they used was all fabricated by Professor Xi.

I have compiled this evidence and am preparing to submit it to Dean Tie. I believe that once Dean Tie sees this evidence, he will make the right judgment.

Just as I was about to go find Dean Tie, I received an anonymous letter. The letter contained only one sentence: "Meet me at midnight tonight on the back hill of the academy."

My heart skipped a beat. Who sent me this letter? What does he want? I hesitated for a moment, but ultimately decided to keep the appointment.

I had a feeling that a huge secret was hidden behind this letter... I pushed open the dormitory door, and Su Yao was waiting for me.

"Where are you going so late?" she asked with concern. "The back hill, someone wants to meet me," I replied briefly.

Su Yao's expression changed. "The back mountain? It's so late, who would meet you there? Isn't it dangerous?" I held her hand and gave her a reassuring look. "Don't worry, I'll be careful."

I turned and left the dormitory, heading towards the back mountain. Night enveloped the entire college, and the wind rustled through the treetops.

My heart was filled with unease; I didn't know what awaited me... On the path behind the mountain, a dark figure slowly approached me...
