Beast Taming Star Journey
Chapter 151 Exploring Perilous Lands, the First Appearance of Divine Beasts
The Valley of the Netherworld truly lived up to its name. The moment one stepped into the valley entrance, a chilling wind swept over them, like the breath of a ghost, sending a shiver down their spine. The surrounding trees grew twisted and gnarled, their leaves withered and yellow, as if some force had drained their life force, casting eerie shadows in the darkness.
The air was filled with a damp, rotten smell, mixed with the aroma of unknown herbs, making one want to vomit.
Su Yao followed closely behind me, and I could feel her hand on my shoulder tightening slightly, conveying silent support. I took a deep breath, trying to remain calm.
The bronze boy told us that many rare medicinal herbs grow in the Netherworld Valley, but it also harbors countless dangers, and even experienced beast taming masters dare not venture deep into it easily.
I slowed my pace, carefully observing my surroundings. My tamed beast, Little Gold, a small golden sable, was vigilantly sniffing around.
It possesses keen perception, enabling it to detect hidden dangers in advance. "Watch your step," I whispered to Su Yao.
Little Jin suddenly let out a low growl and paced restlessly around my feet.
I looked closely and discovered that the seemingly flat ground beneath my feet was actually covered with a thin layer of fallen leaves, and beneath those leaves lay a bottomless trap.
"That was close." Su Yao gasped, giving Xiao Jin a grateful look.
We continued on our journey, and along the way, Xiao Jin gave us warnings many times, helping us avoid all sorts of traps, including poisonous miasma, swamps, and even poisonous insects and ferocious beasts lurking in the shadows.
I increasingly felt that the bronze boy had brought us here not just to find medicinal herbs.
As we ventured deeper into the Valley of the Dead, the air around us grew increasingly heavy, an invisible pressure enveloping us and making it almost impossible to breathe.
I sensed that Xiao Jin was also becoming restless; its fur stood on end, and it let out a low growl. "Something is approaching," Su Yao's voice also became serious.
I nodded, signaling her to be on high alert. I slowly channeled my beast-taming power into Little Gold's body to enhance its perception.
Suddenly, Little Gold let out a sharp cry and dashed off in one direction. "Chase after it!" I grabbed Su Yao's hand and chased after Little Gold.
We walked through a dense thicket of bushes, and suddenly the view opened up before us. A huge valley appeared before us, its bottom shrouded in colorful mist, like a fairyland.
In the center of the valley stands a huge altar, upon which a gigantic creature dwells.
The creature was pure white, its body resembling a dragon, but it had no horns; instead, it possessed a pair of enormous wings that radiated a holy light.
It lay quietly on the altar, as if asleep, but the oppressive aura emanating from it was suffocating.
"This is... a divine beast!" Su Yao's voice trembled, her eyes filled with awe. I was also filled with shock. I knew we were truly in deep trouble this time.
This divine beast is probably the resource-guarding divine beast that the bronze boy mentioned, protecting the Netherworld Valley! "We must be careful..." Before I could finish speaking, the divine beast suddenly opened its eyes, its golden pupils like two blazing suns, radiating a chilling light.
It slowly stood up and let out a deafening roar... The roar of the divine beast made my eardrums buzz, and the trees in the valley shook violently, as if they were about to collapse at any moment.
I held Su Yao's hand tightly; her palm was slightly damp, and I could feel her nervousness.
"Don't be afraid," I whispered to comfort her, while simultaneously channeling more beast-taming power into Xiao Jin's body.
Little Jin's size exploded, transforming into a giant golden sable that blocked our path, letting out a defiant roar at the divine beast.
The divine beast's golden pupils coldly stared at us, and a powerful pressure swept over us, making it almost impossible for me to breathe.
I gritted my teeth and forced myself not to collapse.
"It doesn't seem... to have any intention of attacking us." Su Yao's voice trembled slightly, but there was a hint of doubt in her tone.
I carefully observed the divine beast and found that although it exuded a powerful aura, it showed no signs of attacking.
It just stood there quietly, watching us, as if scrutinizing something.
“Perhaps…we can try to communicate?” A bold idea suddenly popped into my head.
Silver once said that some powerful mythical beasts possess extremely high intelligence and are even able to communicate with humans.
I took a deep breath, bowed respectfully to the divine beast, and said in a calm tone, "Respected divine beast, we have no intention of offending you. We simply wish to search for some rare medicinal herbs. Please allow us to enter the valley." The divine beast did not respond, but simply looked at me quietly, its golden pupils flashing with complex light.
Time ticked by, the atmosphere thick with a suffocating tension. My back was soaked with cold sweat, and I gripped Su Yao's hand even tighter.
Suddenly, the divine beast let out a low sigh. It slowly lowered its head, rubbed its massive head against the altar, then raised its head and let out a low growl at us.
"What...does it mean?" Su Yao asked softly. I didn't know what the divine beast meant either, but judging from its actions, it didn't seem to intend to drive us away.
I bowed to the divine beast once more, then cautiously made my way to the bottom of the valley. Little Gold followed closely behind me, vigilantly observing the surroundings.
As we approached the altar, I noticed the fog at the bottom of the valley thickened, almost obscuring everything. I slowed my pace, carefully sensing the atmosphere around me.
Suddenly, I felt a powerful force emanating from the altar. Startled, I immediately stopped. "What's wrong?" Su Yao asked.
I pointed to the altar and whispered, "There... there seems to be something there." We slowly approached the altar, and the mist gradually dissipated, revealing the altar in its entirety.
In the center of the altar grew a strange plant. The plant was crystal clear and emitted a faint glow, like a star twinkling in the night sky.
"This is..." I recognized the plant at a glance; it was the "Star Soul Grass" we were looking for! A surge of joy filled me, and I was about to pick it when suddenly, the divine beast let out a deafening roar, its enormous claws slamming down towards me! Su Yao cried out in alarm, shoving me aside and simultaneously drawing her sword to meet the beast's attack... "Nong Yu!"
