Beast Taming Star Journey

Chapter 124 Inheritance Trial, First Steps on a Perilous Path

The fog swallowed us up, making it impossible to see our own hands. Only Su Yao's warm palms provided us with strength. The stone path beneath our feet was slippery, and we walked cautiously with each step.

The Land of Inheritance truly lived up to its name; even before the trials began, it gave us a rude awakening. A strange fragrance permeated the air, sweet and cloying with a hint of decay, making me quite uncomfortable.

"Be careful, this place is eerie," I whispered to Su Yao, releasing her hand and spreading my mental energy to try and sense the surrounding environment.

"Hmm." Su Yao also noticed the abnormality, gripped her longsword tighter, and warily looked around. My beast-taming perception is much sharper than that of ordinary people, thanks to the long-standing spiritual connection between me and my natal beast—the Fire Feather Eagle.

In the mist, I vaguely sensed subtle energy fluctuations beneath the ground ahead, like lurking venomous snakes waiting for their chance to strike.

"Stop!" I grabbed Su Yao's arm. "There's a trap ahead." Su Yao immediately stopped, a hint of surprise flashing in her eyes. "How did you know?"

I didn't explain, I just pointed to the seemingly flat ground ahead. Su Yao looked in the direction I was pointing, but didn't see anything.

I smiled slightly, picked up a stone, and threw it forward.

With a "whoosh," the moment the stone hit the ground, the ground suddenly cracked open, revealing a bottomless pit filled with sharp spikes.

If we had rushed forward rashly, the consequences would have been unimaginable. Su Yao gasped, her eyes filled with admiration as she looked at me. "Thank goodness you were here."

I smiled but didn't say anything, continuing to cautiously explore the path ahead. Having learned our lesson, we became even more careful, meticulously observing our surroundings with every step.

In the mist, the only sounds besides our own breathing were the dripping of water. This silence only heightened our tension.

After walking for about half an hour, the fog gradually dissipated, and a wide-open space appeared before us.

In the center of the open space stood an ancient altar, covered with mysterious runes that emitted a faint golden light.

Scattered around the altar were some skeletons, which appeared to be those of people who had entered the Land of Inheritance but failed the trials.

"It seems this is the first trial," I thought to myself, looking at the altar. Just then, several figures darted out of the mist and landed on the open ground.

They were dressed differently, but their eyes were filled with greed and murderous intent. "Inheritance! It's the inheritance of beast taming!" one of them shouted, his eyes gleaming with excitement.

I recognized them; the leader was Lei Yushou, a notorious fellow who took pleasure in stealing opportunities from others. It seemed they were after the inheritance.

"Hmph, you think you can even dream of inheriting the legacy?" Su Yao sneered, drew her longsword, and pointed it at the Thunder Beastmaster.

Lei Yushou smiled coldly, "Su Yao, I know you are strong, but we outnumber you and have the upper hand. What can you do?"

The men behind him also drew their weapons and surrounded us. The atmosphere instantly became tense, and a major battle seemed imminent.

I clenched my fists and thought to myself: The legacy is mine, and no one can take it away from me!

Su Yao held my arm tightly, leaned her body slightly closer to me, and whispered, "Yu, I feel very safe with you here."

Her breath was sweet and warm, brushing against my ear and warming my heart. I took her slightly cool hand in mine and gave her a firm look.

With me here, no one can hurt her. Suddenly, a piercing clap of thunder shattered the brief silence.

The Thunder Beastmaster grinned maliciously and commanded his Thunder Leopard, which was crackling with electricity, to pounce on us.

"Kid, obediently hand over your qualification to enter the inheritance, and you'll suffer less!" I sneered, having expected him to make a move.

The Land of Heritage is a place where the strong prey on the weak. "If you want to steal it, you'll have to see if you have the ability!"

With a thought, the Fire Feather Eagle let out a loud cry and flew out from my beast-taming space, its huge wings spreading out to block our way.

"Fire Feather Eagle, Blazing Storm!" I commanded, and the Fire Feather Eagle flapped its wings violently, sending countless fireballs hurtling towards Thunder Leopard like a meteor shower.

Although Lei Bao was extremely fast, it was difficult to completely dodge the dense fireball attacks. Several charred marks appeared on its body, and it let out painful roars.

Su Yao was not idle either. She moved like lightning, her long sword flashing with cold light as she aimed directly at the Thunder Beastmaster.

Although Lei Yuzhe was a high-level beast tamer, he was struggling against Su Yao's fierce attacks and could only barely parry.

"Damn it!" Seeing that he couldn't finish the battle quickly, the Thunder Beastmaster's face darkened. "You just wait!" he roared, recalling his Thunder Leopard and turning to flee into the mist.

I did not give chase, firstly because I was worried about other dangers in the mist, and secondly because our primary task now was to pass the inheritance trial.

I recalled the Fire Feather Eagle and turned to look at Su Yao. "Let's go."

We approached the altar cautiously, the runes on it shimmering with an eerie light, as if guiding us.

I reached out and gently touched the altar. A powerful energy instantly surged into my body, making me feel full of strength.

Suddenly, the runes on the altar shone brightly, and a golden light enveloped us. The scene before us changed, and we found ourselves in a completely unfamiliar space.

This is a desolate desert, with the scorching sun and rolling heatwaves. "It seems this is the first trial of the inheritance."

I took a deep breath, feeling the scorching air around me. Just then, the ground began to shake, and dust billowed up in the distance.

I squinted and vaguely saw several dark figures rapidly approaching us. "Watch out!" I grabbed Su Yao and warily watched the figures.

The shadowy figures drew closer, and I finally saw their true forms.

They were a group of enormous sand scorpions, each the size of a house, their stingers gleaming coldly, sending chills down one's spine.

It seems that this inheritance trial is much more dangerous than I imagined... "Yu..." Su Yao's voice trembled slightly. She gripped my hand tightly, and a trace of fear flashed in her eyes.

I held her hand tightly and gave her a reassuring look. "Don't be afraid, I'm here."

Just then, I sensed a powerful energy fluctuation coming from ahead, and a huge energy barrier appeared out of thin air, blocking our way.

Behind them, the Thunder Beastmaster's chilling laughter rang out again... "It seems you've run out of options..."
