Beast Taming Star Journey

Chapter 112 Public Panic, Skillful Appeasement

The aftershocks of the explosion still reverberated in the air, and dust shrouded the city like a thin veil. The Beast Taming Research Base was now a ruin, thick smoke billowing into the sky. I stood before the ruins, my heart filled with mixed emotions. Although the crisis had temporarily subsided, the real challenge had just begun. An atmosphere of unease permeated the city; citizens hid at home, afraid to venture out. The streets were deserted, with only a few stray cats and dogs occasionally rummaging through the garbage for food.

Various rumors spread among the crowd. Some said that the beasts were out of control and could erupt again at any time. Others said that the city had been polluted and was no longer suitable for living. Still others said that this was a punishment from heaven. I knew that if this panic was allowed to spread, the consequences would be unimaginable.

I have to do something.

"Nong Yu, what are you planning to do?"

Su Yao stood beside me, her expression solemn.

"I need to go and reassure the citizens."

I took a deep breath, my gaze resolute.

The mayor rushed over, his face filled with anxiety: "Nong Yu, the citizens are in a state of panic. What can you do?"

I turned to him and said in a calm tone, "Mayor, please trust me, I will solve this problem."

I had the beast tamers bring out all my docile beasts. The most eye-catching one was a fluffy, snow-white little beast with big, watery eyes that looked harmless.

I took it out on the street, and it did all sorts of cute things under my command, which made several curious children on the roadside giggle.

Gradually, more and more people peeked out of their homes to look at me and my tamed beast.

I began to explain to them that this incident of the beasts going out of control was just an accident, and that we had brought the situation under control and that nothing like it would happen again.

I also told them that the beasts are our friends; they can help us and protect us, and we shouldn't be afraid of them.

At my prompting, the little animal walked up to the crowd and rubbed its furry head against a child's hand. The child was initially a little scared, but was quickly won over by the animal's cuteness and broke into a bright smile.

Seeing this, the other citizens gradually lowered their guard and smiled. I was overjoyed; it seemed my method had worked.

However, just when I thought everything was getting better, someone in the crowd suddenly threw a stone at me, which hit my shoulder.

"Monster! Get out of our city!"

A man roared angrily.

I frowned, realizing things weren't as simple as I'd imagined... Su Yao stepped in front of me, glaring at the man: "What did you say?!"

The pain in my shoulder made me gasp. The rock wasn't big, but it felt incredibly malicious.

I instinctively protected the small animal beside me. It seemed to sense the hostility around it and trembled as it hid behind me.

More stones flew from the crowd, and I could only dodge them awkwardly. Su Yao stood in front of me like a wall, blocking the stones and the malice.

"He came here to help everyone, so please don't do this."

Her voice stood out clearly in the noisy crowd, and her eyes were filled with determination. I looked at her gratefully, but also with even greater worry.

Such a conflict will only exacerbate public panic and make the situation even more difficult to control. I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself down.

Violence and confrontation will only make things worse; I must find another way. I gestured for Su Yao to step back, then slowly raised my hands to indicate that I meant no harm.

“I know everyone is scared,” I said, trying to keep my voice calm, “but please believe me, we have the situation under control, and these beasts will not harm you.”

My words seemed to have no effect; people in the crowd continued to shout and throw stones. I felt powerless. Was all my effort in vain?

Am I really unable to dispel their fear?

Just then, a timid voice came from the crowd: "Is it true? They really won't hurt us?"

I looked in the direction of the sound and saw a thin little girl hiding behind her mother, peeking out her head and curiously looking at the little animal beside me.

A surge of joy filled my heart; I saw a glimmer of hope. I crouched down to be at eye level with the little girl.

“It’s true,” I said gently. “Look how cute it is. It just wants to be our friend.”

I gestured for the little beast to come to the little girl, and the little beast cautiously extended its paw and touched the little girl's hand.

The little girl paused for a moment, then gave a tentative smile.

This scene seemed to have an effect on those around me. The shouts and curses in the crowd gradually subsided, and more people began to look at me and my beast with curiosity.

I pressed my advantage and continued to explain to them the habits and functions of the beasts, as well as how we can live in harmony with them.

Gradually, the hostility in the crowd dissipated, replaced by curiosity and understanding. I breathed a sigh of relief; it seemed my efforts had not been in vain.

However, just when I thought everything was settled, my communicator suddenly rang.

I connected the communicator, and an anxious voice came through: "Nongyu, something bad has happened! A large group of out-of-control beasts have appeared on the edge of the city, they..." The voice on the other end of the communicator suddenly stopped, leaving only the piercing sound of electricity.

My expression changed, and an ominous premonition welled up in my heart.

"what happened?"

Su Yao noticed my unusual behavior and asked with concern.

I gripped the communicator tightly and whispered, "I'm afraid this isn't over yet..." I looked towards the edge of the city, where something seemed to be stirring...
